Chapter 12

“They must be thinking, how could there be such a tall, mighty, handsome, and dashing person in this world!”

Little Emily Harris pretended to look like she was about to throw up. William Carter laughed and said, “Buddy, just by standing next to you, I’ve given you enough face. But you’d better be careful when you walk alone in the future…”

“Careful of what?”

“Careful that all the women who secretly have a crush on me will rush over and beat you black and blue!”

“You’re so full of yourself!” Little Emily Harris couldn’t stop laughing at William Carter’s teasing. She suddenly realized that time always flew by when she was with William Carter.

William Carter pointed at Little Emily Harris’s 50cc motorbike. “Are you planning to give me a ride on that?”

“Who would want to give you a ride!” Little Emily Harris put on her helmet and got on the bike.

“Girl, to be honest, I just spent all my money on skating for you. How about you give me ten yuan for a cab?” William Carter pretended to be broke. Little Emily Harris pressed her lips together and smiled. She didn’t believe a word William Carter said. She started the bike and sped off in a flash.

William Carter was left dumbfounded. “Hey! Girl, that’s so cold!” Little Emily Harris left behind a string of bell-like laughter as her figure disappeared around the corner ahead.

A taxi stopped next to William Carter, and a chubby guy stuck his head out. “Buddy, looks like you’ve been ditched! I’ll give you a ride!”

William Carter was annoyed. “I don’t have any money. Will you still take me?”

The chubby guy’s face immediately fell. “Am I freaking crazy?”

“Looking for a beating, huh?” William Carter put on a fierce look, and the driver hurriedly drove away in fright. William Carter hummed a little tune as he strolled forward. Luckily, the bus stop wasn’t far from here.

Turning the corner, William Carter saw that Little Emily Harris was actually waiting for him up ahead. He chuckled, whistled, and swaggered over with his hands in his pockets. “What’s up? Couldn’t bear to leave me behind?”

“I’m just feeling sorry for you!”

“If you’re so kind-hearted, why not just give yourself to me?” William Carter grinned mischievously.

“I’ve realized your mind is absolutely filthy!” Little Emily Harris was already used to William Carter’s banter.

“Don’t pin that on me!” William Carter sat grandly behind Little Emily Harris, still not taking his hands out of his pockets.

“Sit tight!” Little Emily Harris reminded William Carter.

“I’m afraid if I accidentally touch you, you’ll accuse me of harassment again.”

“Not going to bother with you!” Little Emily Harris started the bike, and William Carter took the opportunity to put his hands around Little Emily Harris’s waist. Little Emily Harris glanced at the rearview mirror, bit her lip, and smiled.

William Carter kept humming his little tune. “Just like that, conquered by you…” His arms slowly wrapped around Little Emily Harris’s slender waist. “Comrade Little Emily Harris! There’s something I must confess to you!” William Carter said in an extremely sincere tone.

“Go ahead, Comrade Old Carter!” Little Emily Harris couldn’t help but laugh.

“Actually, I do have money in my pocket, but I was born selfish. If I can save a penny, I will. My mom always told me to save up so I can get a wife. Besides, I had another wicked reason for wanting to hitch a ride on your bike…” William Carter deliberately paused. “I wanted to take the chance to cop a feel of a beautiful girl!” Little Emily Harris blushed and softly said, “You’re so annoying…” but there was no real anger in her voice. William Carter was delighted and wrapped both arms around her.

As the saying goes, joy can turn to sorrow. Just as William Carter was enjoying himself, Little Emily Harris suddenly exclaimed in panic, “Oh no!” and quickly hit the brakes.

“Get off!” a stern voice called out to them.

William Carter looked up and saw a dark-faced policeman walking toward them. William Carter pretended not to know what was going on. “Officer, are you talking to me?”

“Who else would I be talking to?” The policeman sounded pretty harsh. Little Emily Harris whispered, “Don’t make trouble, just say something nice!” William Carter whispered back, “Didn’t you say everyone along the way was your brother’s classmate?”

“Pull over, show me your license and registration!” The policeman was very serious.

William Carter smiled. “Officer, no need to be so serious, you’re scaring the young lady!”

“You’re pretty slick, aren’t you? A grown man hiding behind a girl, just to save a bit of cab fare?” This cop really had a sharp tongue.

Hearing this, William Carter got angry. “What’s with your attitude? So what if you’re a cop? Doesn’t mean you can mock the public!”

“We cops aren’t anything special. If you’re so great, then don’t break traffic rules, huh?” The policeman seemed to be deliberately picking on William Carter. Little Emily Harris quickly stepped forward. “Sorry, it won’t happen again. I know David Scott from your squad!” When the policeman heard her mention someone from the squad, he nodded. “Well… then give him a call…” Little Emily Harris immediately took out her phone and dialed David Scott’s number, but soon put it down in disappointment. “His phone is off…”

“Then I’ll have to write you a ticket!” The policeman looked like he was just doing his job.

Little Emily Harris was at a loss. William Carter pulled her over. “Let him write it. Looks like David Scott isn’t doing so well—no one in his own squad will give him face. Let’s see how he explains this to his friends in the future!”
