Chapter 13

The policeman’s hand, which was about to write a ticket, paused again. “David Scott is really unlucky to have a friend like you!” William Carter was about to lose his temper when he saw the policeman wave at Little Emily Harris. “Forget it, you two can go. Don’t let it happen again!” Little Emily Harris thanked him repeatedly. This time, the two of them learned their lesson. William Carter pushed the bike a long way before starting it up again, and now it was his turn to drive. Little Emily Harris stuck out her tongue. “Nothing’s going right today!” William Carter put on a fierce look. “If you hadn’t stopped me just now, I would’ve beaten him black and blue!” Little Emily Harris gave William Carter a light knock on the head. “Still acting tough? If you hadn’t dragged me into this, that cop wouldn’t have caught us in the first place!” William Carter laughed. “It’s all my fault! How about I treat you to dinner tonight to help you recover from the shock?”

“It’s not that shocking, but I could consider dinner.” Little Emily Harris put her hand on William Carter’s shoulder. William Carter grinned. “You’re taking advantage of me.” Little Emily Harris gave him a light smack on the back. “Who taught me to strip off the sugar coating and fire the shell right back?”

“Fine! I brought this on myself. Stop stripping the sugar coating—why don’t you just strip me clean first? I’m ready to sacrifice myself for my fellow sisters at any time.” William Carter started joking around again.

Little Emily Harris gave William Carter a hard pinch. “Pervert!” William Carter cried out in pain. “Unfair! I admit I have perverted thoughts, but I haven’t done anything perverted.” Little Emily Harris laughed. “Why do I feel like you’re full of pervert cells from head to toe!”

William Carter grinned. “Jealous, aren’t you? How about we find a place and I’ll share some of my most perverted cells with you!” Little Emily Harris immediately caught his meaning and gave his arm a hard twist. “Say one more word and I’ll twist your flesh off piece by piece!” William Carter yelped in pain. “Spare me! I know you’re hungry, but you don’t have to be so ruthless, do you?”

William Carter took Little Emily Harris to Donglaishun for hotpot. Little Emily Harris teased, “How come you’re being so generous today?” William Carter laughed. “Oh, you noticed? I only bleed once a month!”

Little Emily Harris blushed bright red. “You never say anything decent!”

William Carter burst out laughing. “Picking on me, huh? We haven’t even started on the hotpot and you’re already thinking about Huajiang dog meat. First date and you’re asking me for ivory—how can you be so materialistic?”

Little Emily Harris picked up two rolls of lamb and stuffed them into William Carter’s mouth. “Let’s see if I can shut you up!”

William Carter chewed and laughed. “Girl, what brand of toothpaste do you use? This mint flavor is way too strong.” Little Emily Harris glared at him. “I hope it poisons you!”

William Carter nodded. “Fine! Why don’t you just stick your tongue in my mouth? That way, I’ll have a better chance of being poisoned!” Little Emily Harris giggled. “William Carter, you’re so disgusting. Are you going to let me eat or not?”

“You’d better eat more vegetables. I’ll take two servings of lamb for myself. It’s not that I’m stingy, I’m just worried about you. Right now, you’re standing here looking so graceful and elegant. If you eat too much and turn into a little chubby, wouldn’t that ruin the number one beauty in Beijing?”

Little Emily Harris couldn’t help but laugh. She gazed at William Carter, her eyes growing gentle. “William Carter… I had a really great time today!”

William Carter smiled. “Can I take that as a compliment?”

“You could say that.”

“So I can also take it as admiration?” William Carter looked into Little Emily Harris’s eyes. From the first time he met her, Little Emily Harris had touched his heart, but for him, this relationship had come at the wrong time.

Little Emily Harris was about to answer when William Carter’s phone suddenly rang. It was his mother calling, and her voice sounded very melancholy. “Xiaoyu… aren’t you coming home for dinner?”

“I… I’m with a friend…”

“Don’t drink too much, and come home early tonight…” Grace Parker couldn’t hide her disappointment.

William Carter agreed and hung up. He became silent. Little Emily Harris noticed the change in him and considerately changed the subject. “Tomorrow, I have to go back to school!”

William Carter suddenly realized that he’d known Little Emily Harris for a while but still didn’t know which school she attended. “Which school?”

“Central Academy of Drama!”

“Oh my, girl, so you’re a future star? I totally misjudged you. Quick, sign a couple of autographs for me. When you’re famous, I’ll cash them in.” William Carter teased her on purpose.

Little Emily Harris pouted. “I study photography, I’m nowhere near being a star.”

“Photography is even cooler. Didn’t Zhang Yimou, the great director, start out in photography? Maybe you’ll be the next Master Shang.” Little Emily Harris laughed. “For that, I’ll definitely work hard!”

William Carter leaned in mysteriously. “But you have to be careful. I hear there are a ton of perverts at Central Drama, and you’re a rare beauty. If anyone dares harass you, just tell me—I’ll chop him up!”

“You know, someone really did harass me!”

William Carter put on a look of righteous fury. “Tell your big brother—I’ll slice him into thin pieces and cook him in the hotpot!”

Little Emily Harris pointed at William Carter with a smile. “So far away, yet right in front of me!”
