Chapter 11

"Hey, are you crazy!" Blaze shouted, crawling forward another half a meter at lightning speed. He lifted his head and saw that Ryan Carter was already halfway down the slope.

"Damn! A mage who runs this fast!" Blaze yelled. By now, Ryan Carter had already entered the visual range of six NPCs. The six stood up and surrounded Ryan Carter.

"He's dead for sure! Definitely dead, this guy is such a noob!" Blaze muttered. Six NPCs attacking together—never mind the level gap—even if there wasn't one, these social monsters, who help each other, can't be soloed by a single person. Blaze didn't dare blink; he felt that if he blinked, Ryan Carter might already turn into a beam of white light.

But an unbelievable scene unfolded right before Blaze's eyes. He saw Ryan Carter's figure nimbly weaving among the six, the dagger in his hand flashing left and right, blood spurting out from time to time, and the NPCs screaming in pain.

Blaze had lost the ability to blink, his mouth wide open, gasping for air. Who the hell is this guy? Six level-20-ish mobs were being suppressed by him, and all their attacks missed. No, not all missed—he dodged them himself. What level is this guy? Level 40? Level 50? But the game hasn't even been open for a full day—how could anyone be that high level? Even if someone was that high level... is there any mage who would go up and brawl like this? Is this a hidden account? Hidden class? The legendary game balance breaker? While Blaze was busy fantasizing, Ryan Carter really did turn into beams of white light before his eyes—the white light of leveling up—as the six mobs were already taken down. With his increased speed and a new meat-cutting knife as a weapon, Ryan Carter's efficiency had improved a lot.

Blaze got up from the ground and waved frantically at Ryan Carter.

Ryan Carter first looted a few NPCs, then walked over to Blaze with a completely unconcerned smile. To him, killing these six rigid NPCs was just too easy.

"Bro, what level are you!" Blaze looked up at him in admiration.

Ryan Carter glanced at his own stats, then looked up and answered, "Level 10."

"What? Level 10?" Blaze, who had just managed to stand up straight, sat back down on the ground. "Do you know what level they were?" Blaze pointed at the six NPC corpses.

"I checked the website, around level 20!" Ryan Carter said.

"A level 10 killing level 20-something mobs, and soloing six at once!" Blaze nodded, as if trying to convince himself to believe it, even though he had just witnessed it with his own eyes.

"So what? If I can kill them, I kill them!" Ryan Carter said nonchalantly.

Blaze could only stare, mouth agape, at a loss for words. What is this? Is this skill? But in a full-immersion game, what skill is there?

"I know kung fu!" Ryan Carter grinned.

"Damn, you can use kung fu in online games too?" Blaze muttered.

Before Ryan Carter could reply, a shout came from the other side of the slope: "Found them, over here!"

They looked in the direction of the voice and saw someone standing at the front of the right slope, gesturing toward them while shouting down the slope.

The two of them stood up and looked down the slope. From all directions, players in groups of two or three were running over, gathering together—there must have been dozens of them.

"What's going on, what's going on?" Blaze asked as he looked around. "Is there a boss?" He searched the area, but aside from the six fallen mobs, there wasn't an NPC in sight.

"They're coming for us!" Ryan Carter said.

"How do you know?" Blaze asked.

"I can sense killing intent!" Ryan Carter replied.

"Bro, you gotta be kidding me!" Blaze rolled his eyes.

But Ryan Carter was right. A crowd was gathering at the bottom of the slope, aggressively approaching the two of them.

"See, I told you they're here for us!" Ryan Carter pointed at a guy in front.

Blaze squinted and recognized the group of defiant players he'd argued with earlier. "Damn, is this necessary? All this fuss over a pig!" Blaze cursed, then put on a look of utter indifference: "Whatever, I'm only level 1 anyway."

"Didn't you see that pond over there?" Ryan Carter pointed down the slope.

Blaze remembered that the other side had threatened to throw him in the river earlier, and his face turned pale as he immediately prepared for the worst. "Is that pond deep?"

"No idea!" Ryan Carter shook his head. By now, the crowd had reached them. Ryan Carter had never planned to run, and Blaze, being level 1, hadn't planned to run either, but after Ryan Carter's reminder about the pond, he was starting to regret it.

The two sides met. The other group fanned out, surrounding them—at least fifty or sixty people. Ryan Carter let out a breath. He only knew kung fu, not superpowers. One against fifty or sixty? Even if kung fu allowed it, his stamina wouldn't. Still, whether there would be a fight was uncertain. Judging by the way they looked at him, there was a hint of fear.

"What do you want?" Ryan Carter asked.

"Guild leader, it's him," someone said, pointing at Ryan Carter.

Ryan Carter immediately looked at the so-called guild leader: a skinny young man, not very tall, but with hair standing straight up, which made his face and height look longer. His skin was rough and pitted like an orange peel, and his beady eyes darted around Ryan Carter. Judging by his appearance, Ryan Carter figured his class must be a thief.
