Chapter 8

“Mm.” Brian Foster nodded. “Let me tell you something. Today’s surgery was completed smoothly under my supervision. Henry Brooks, Isaac Bennett, Howard Sullivan, you all did a good job as well. I’ll request for you to receive double bonuses, and I’ll nominate you for a raise next month. Do you all understand?”

What does Director Foster mean by this? Is he trying to take all the credit for himself? Isaac Bennett’s eyes lit up, his heart filled with joy—serves that kid right for being unlucky.

Thinking he understood, Isaac Bennett nodded. “Don’t worry, Director. Today’s surgery was a success only because of your leadership. I, Isaac Bennett, saw with my own eyes how you saved the patient.”

The others all nodded as well. After all, everyone stood to benefit, and none of them knew Henry Brooks, so no one was going to speak up at this moment.

“Got it.” Howard Sullivan, knowing Henry Brooks’s identity, had a different perspective. Director Foster would never steal Young Master Sun’s credit—this must be an order from above.

Brian Foster gave Howard Sullivan a meaningful look, noticing that Howard Sullivan was lowering his head to change his shoes, and only then did he leave, satisfied.

By now, the day-shift doctors had arrived. Brian Foster went to greet them and gave a brief handover before returning to the director’s duty room. As he reached the door of the lounge, Brian Foster suddenly felt uneasy and took a deep breath.

He really couldn’t figure out Young Master Sun’s temperament anymore. Ever since his feigned death yesterday, it was as if he’d become a different person. Although Young Master Sun had also returned from a famous foreign university, rumor had it that he’d just coasted through. Yet this time, he’d shown such skill—could it be a family secret? Truly shocking. He hoped the higher-ups’ decision this time wouldn’t upset him, or else he’d be the first to suffer.

Brian Foster knocked gently on the door. “Chen... Han, are you asleep?”

“No, come in.” Henry Brooks was lying on the bed, lost in thought. He let Brian Foster in, but his mind was still elsewhere, so he didn’t move.

“This whole thing is thanks to you. Look, after all this, it’s already morning. Since you’re not sleeping, why don’t we go out and get something to eat? Not only do I want to thank you, but even our ER and those police officers are extremely grateful.” Although he didn’t address him as Young Master Sun, Brian Foster was still very cautious. Seeing Henry Brooks lying there motionless seemed perfectly normal to him—after all, that’s just how second-generation heirs behaved, and it fit his style.

For Henry Brooks, in his previous life, not only did other doctors across the entire Earth Federation idolize him, but even the most powerful generals and the President of the Federation had to see if he was in the mood or had the time to meet them. So Henry Brooks didn’t feel there was anything wrong with doing his own thing—he was long used to it.

As the Federation government’s chief medical officer, he had later shifted his focus to research.

“Food…” He hadn’t thought about it, but now that it was mentioned, Henry Brooks really did feel a bit hungry, and he’d also started to get some ideas about what he needed to do in the near future.

“You’re the director—if the director’s treating, I definitely have to go.” Henry Brooks smiled, got up, and walked straight out. As he passed by Brian Foster, Henry Brooks said calmly, “I’m a doctor.”

There was no politeness, but that simple “I’m a doctor” left Brian Foster stunned for a full five seconds, his mind going blank.

The ER was on the west side, while the main entrance of Changzhi Hospital was on the east. The west side had wider roads, making it easier for vehicles to come and go, while the east side was a bustling area with a plaza—lots of people, cars, and shops.

Henry Brooks and Brian Foster exited through the east gate from inside. It was just the start of the workday, so there weren’t too many patients in the hospital yet—mostly medical staff moving about.

“This time the chairman really went all out, actually making a move right in the hospital.”

“Who knows what new trick Young Master Sun is up to now, or what trouble he’s caused to make the old man so angry.”

“A limited edition Ferrari, and a Lamborghini—driving those to pick up girls is like wielding a magic weapon in an online game, sweeping all before you. When will I ever have one?”

“In your dreams…”

Henry Brooks and Brian Foster had just crossed the lobby and reached the main entrance of Changzhi Hospital when they saw dozens of medical staff standing on the steps, along with some patients and their families watching from a distance.

They didn’t know what was going on, but the medical staff at the entrance were all talking among themselves.

The main entrance of Changzhi Hospital was very wide, and the crowd was only occupying a corner. Henry Brooks and Brian Foster came out from the other side and immediately understood what was happening—three cars were parked there: a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and a Porsche 911. At that moment, several men in black were prying open the cars. The alarms were blaring, but they were using brute force and didn’t care who heard.

The Ferrari and Lamborghini had already been started and were driving away, and the Porsche 911 had also been opened.

“This…” Brian Foster was shocked at the sight, then glanced cautiously at Henry Brooks beside him.
