Chapter 11

David Miller was terrified by that look and nodded repeatedly without thinking, “Ms. Ford, I know I was wrong.”

No one dared to ignore Ms. Ford’s warning. Since the club opened, it’s not like there haven’t been any troubles, but right after, those troublemakers would always run into even bigger trouble.

Whether these rumors are true or not, the employees at Hongjie know better than anyone.

David Miller felt his calves starting to cramp.

Ms. Ford glanced at Jason Ford again and nodded slightly, “You… hmm, the forage you planted is pretty good.”

Chapter 6: A Bit of a Bump

Ms. Ford came by for an inspection, casually said a couple of things, and then left as if nothing had happened.

But all the Hongjie employees present were left completely baffled: What on earth does the boss mean by this?

There was no doubt that Jason Ford had turned the tables in an instant, and the one who stepped in was Ms. Ford.

That’s right, coaches have higher priority than underlings. To protect a coach, the lobby manager can openly take sides, because that’s real life. However, when the company boss speaks, they can do whatever they want—that’s even more real life.

In this world, the one who pays the salaries is the biggest boss.

Actually, what Ms. Ford said made a lot of sense and went straight to the heart of the issue—David Miller may be a coach, and the ones he harassed were just a few temporary customers, but no matter what, they were still customers of the company.

It’s not just members who deserve to be treated seriously. Without temporary customers, where would members come from?

Ms. Ford seized on this point and warned Coach Miller. No one could say she was wrong; at least this reason was much more convincing than Mr. Grant’s—David Miller had harmed the company’s core interests.

However, right after that, Ms. Ford’s words of comfort to Jason Ford were truly baffling—“the forage you planted is pretty good”?

Just for this, she overlooked the graduate student’s mistake? Is this really something a company boss should do?

Isn’t that a bit too willful?

Linda Grant was stunned for a moment, then gave Jason Ford a meaningful look. “Did you report to Ms. Ford?”

Jason Ford was also confused. When he heard this, he instinctively sneered, “Whether I reported or not, what’s it to you!”

Mr. Grant’s face turned pale with anger, but she really didn’t dare to mess with this kid anymore. The reason was simple: Ms. Ford had just pointed out David Miller’s problem, but wasn’t that also a warning to her, the lobby manager?

She was right to make an example of someone who didn’t listen, but ignoring the company’s core interests for that was a huge mistake.

The lobby manager is a senior manager, but just one word from the company boss could leave her with nothing.

Linda Grant took a couple of quick breaths, then glared fiercely at Jason Ford and said unwillingly, “Fine, I won’t count yesterday as you skipping work, but today you’re definitely late. Even if you ask Ms. Ford to speak for you, it won’t work!”

Even though she’d been slapped in the face by the general manager and had to take back some decisions, this guy was definitely late today. She would strictly follow company rules and wasn’t afraid of the boss causing trouble—she was doing this for the good of the company.

However, even as she said this, she was nervously calculating in her mind: What exactly is the relationship between this Jason Ford and Ms. Ford?

If you say Ms. Ford has taken a liking to him, that’s basically impossible. If there’s one thing this club isn’t short of, it’s handsome, fit young men. Jason Ford’s looks aren’t bad, but he’s not that outstanding either.

Plus, he’s only 1.73 meters tall and a bit chubby…

Would the famously cool and proud boss of Hongjie really go for someone like that? That’s just too much of a joke.

So, figuring out the relationship between this kid and Ms. Ford was her real goal.

If she could force him to say it himself, even if she had to let this tardiness slide, it would be worth it.

The lobby manager is just an employee too, so of course she has to consider the boss’s feelings.

However, to her frustration, Jason Ford replied unhurriedly, “If you mark me as late, I’ll be in a bad mood. And if I’m in a bad mood, of course I won’t be able to plant the forage well…”

Plant your damn forage! Linda Grant was about to explode with anger.

She really wanted to curse him out, but in the end, she just snorted coldly, “Fine, this afternoon will count as your rotation off… Anyway, your home isn’t in Zhengyang, so you don’t have anywhere to go.”

Jason Ford’s original plan was to just get away with being late today. It was only because the other side had gone too far that he fought back. Whether he got a rotation off or not really didn’t matter to him.

So he couldn’t be bothered to say more. He just snorted lightly, turned around, and went to work out on the gym equipment.

However, he underestimated everyone’s love of gossip. Not long after, Little Smith from the front desk sidled up to him and asked in a low voice, “Hey, double major, what’s really going on between you and Ms. Ford? Why did she cover for you today?”

Jason Ford glanced at her, thought for a moment, and then replied, “If I said it was because the forage I planted was pretty good… you definitely wouldn’t believe it, right?”

Little Smith rolled her eyes at him and snorted, “Isn’t that just nonsense?”

Jason Ford spread his hands, looking completely innocent. “Honestly, I don’t know why Ms. Ford takes care of me like this… Maybe she just doesn’t like Mr. Grant?”

“And you call yourself an educated person, but you can’t say a single honest word,” Little Smith shot him a look, then turned and walked away, swaying her perky little butt. “Mr. Grant’s cousin is Ms. Ford’s best friend!”
