Chapter 20

The most important thing was, after getting a new phone, not only could he try out more apps, but he could also find out whether his strange experiences were limited to his old phone for seniors, or if they would work on other devices as well.

This was a question that absolutely needed to be clarified as soon as possible.

Jason Ford spent quite a while picking out a phone at the store, and finally bought a Zhongxia phone—not only was it domestically made, but its performance was also quite good, offering excellent value for money.

The Zhongxia phone used a nano SIM, while the old phone used a standard SIM. Jason Ford thought it over for a long time before deciding not to swap out the big SIM card. For now, he wouldn’t put a SIM in the new phone, and would just use WiFi to test it.

Buying the phone and installing the preloaded software took him a long time, so by the time he left the phone store, it was nearly six o’clock.

He planned to go back to the hotel for the night—after all, he’d already booked a room for the day, so he might as well use it. He hadn’t checked out at noon precisely because of this.

The hotel wasn’t far from the Hongjie Club, about two li away. Jason Ford was pretty familiar with this area, so he chose a small alley to cut through.

This alley was extremely narrow, barely even an alley—just a gap between a few buildings, wide enough for two small electric scooters to pass side by side, but not for anything larger.

On the other side of the buildings was a bustling, traffic-filled street, but this side was quiet and deserted.

Jason Ford had just turned into the alley when he saw three people ahead, standing there with their hands in their pockets.

The three had their backs to him, so without thinking, he quickly slipped back out, then quietly poked his head around the corner to see what they were up to… Huh, one of them was even someone he knew?

In the middle of the three stood a burly man. Just from the back, Jason Ford recognized him—who else could it be but David Miller?

The next moment, a short man came running in from the other end, with hurried footsteps behind him and a woman shouting loudly, “Stop him… catch the thief!”

She shouted, but who else would bother with such things? So the woman had to chase after him alone.

When she rushed into the alley and saw three people ahead, she was instantly stunned. “You… what are you doing?”

David Miller had a piece of black gauze covering his face, and gave the woman a sinister smile. “You’ve got guts, don’t you?”

The woman chasing after them was just over twenty, with her hair in a ponytail, wearing a white short-sleeved silk shirt and light blue denim shorts, with a pair of white sneakers on her feet.

She really was quite brave. Faced with four burly men, after a brief moment of surprise, she didn’t turn and run, but instead sneered, “Looks like this masked friend here was waiting just for me?”

“If I didn’t cover my face, I’d get caught on surveillance, wouldn’t I?” David Miller waved his hand. “Get her for me, this damn woman!”

“Wait!” the woman snorted coldly, speaking unhurriedly, “Do you know who I am? If you dare touch me… you’re all dead!”

“Touch you? I’ll have my way with you before I kill you!” David Miller grinned viciously. “Damn it, let’s see how much you’re willing to give up.”

Before he finished speaking, the two men beside him rushed forward together, punching and kicking at the woman.

But this woman was really something—she was actually able to fend off the attacks of the two men. Although she was struggling and took several hits, she still managed to fight back when she could.

It wasn’t until the thief rushed up and threw himself at her, clinging tightly to one of her legs, that she was finally overwhelmed.

“Damn, if I’d known, I would’ve worn stockings.”

At this moment, Jason Ford, who was watching from not far away, finally recognized the girl—wasn’t she one of the four girls from the other day?

Back then, David Miller had tried to take advantage of them, but two of the girls were especially good fighters, and this girl was one of them.

Jason Ford wasn’t particularly good at recognizing women, and this girl wasn’t exactly a stunning beauty—just above average—but girls who could fight this well were quite rare.

Seeing the girl being pinned to the ground by three men, screaming her lungs out with no one to hear, a clapping sound rang out from not far away.

David Miller turned his head in surprise, instinctively narrowing his eyes. You?

Jason Ford walked over, clapping his hands and smiling broadly. “Wow… what a scene. Are you filming a movie?”

David Miller considered taking care of this guy too. With his face covered by black gauze, he deepened his voice and growled, “Damn it, if you don’t want to die, get lost!”

That’s what he said, but he had no intention of letting him go. He was waiting for Jason Ford to turn and run, so he could attack from behind.

But Jason Ford wasn’t falling for it. He crouched low, darted forward, picked up half a brick from the ground, and lunged at them. “Damn, what kind of man bullies a woman?”

He had trained in martial arts and was extremely agile. In just three or four moves, the brick had opened a gash on David Miller’s head, and he kicked another man flying.

It was lucky that Coach Miller had some skills—if it had been someone like Mark Harris, a shut-in, one hit with the brick would have taken him down.

After he took care of two of them, the woman who’d been pinned down managed to break free as well. Seeing things going badly, the four men shouted and all ran off.

The girl was about to give chase, but Jason Ford didn’t want to get more involved. “Alright, your bag is here—what’s the point in chasing them?”
