There are still two days until the game launches. William Carter put on the gaming helmet. Besides being used for gaming, this helmet also functions as a fully equipped computer. William Carter wanted to use this time to learn as much as possible about the game, so he could be prepared when it was released.
After putting on the helmet, a virtual computer screen appeared in the void. William Carter had experienced something like this before at a computer store.
William Carter searched for the term "恩泽斯的传说" and instantly got tens of billions of results. He tapped on some of the more important ones to read, but there was no actual game content about "恩泽斯的传说." Most of it was just players speculating about the game. The company Tianxia really kept things under wraps—not a single leak.
When it came to gaming, William Carter was a complete novice. In the past, he had only ever watched others play. Fortunately, modern games are fully virtual and don’t require complicated controls—they’re easy to pick up.
Since there was no information about "恩泽斯的传说," he decided to cram as much general gaming knowledge as possible. William Carter started frantically browsing all sorts of online resources about online games and watched classic battle videos.
With the helmet on, the brain enters a sleep state, so there’s no need to worry about lack of rest. William Carter eagerly absorbed all the gaming knowledge he could find online.
For two whole days, William Carter didn’t take off the helmet. He kept reminding himself that he wasn’t entering the game just for fun—he wanted to become a professional player! To become a pro, the requirements are much higher than for regular players. It takes several times more effort, and your in-game performance has to be at least better than the average player.
March 25th. He checked the time: 7:55 PM. Only five minutes left until the game started. William Carter took a deep breath.
Time passed quietly. A dazzling white light flashed before William Carter's eyes. It was starting. William Carter could hardly contain his excitement.
“It is said that in the distant age of chaos, the creator god Volsheid made this continent. He named it 恩泽斯, which, in the language of the gods, means paradise. The continent of 恩泽斯 became a paradise for all kinds of intelligent life, where countless heroic epics unfolded…”
Chapter Four: Undead Rogue
“The continent of 恩泽斯 formed two great alliances: the Evil Alliance and the Angel Alliance. Between these two alliances, a war lasting thousands of years broke out. From this day forward, countless new forces will join these two alliances, changing the fate of the continent. 恩泽斯 will continue to write its own legend.”
After a long introduction, a palm-sized fairy with transparent wings flew to William Carter's side, circling around him. William Carter knew this was the game’s guide fairy.
“You now have twenty minutes to choose your faction and class. Which alliance would you like to join?”
William Carter thought for a moment and said, “I’ll choose the Evil Alliance.” William Carter didn’t really see himself as a good person.
“The Evil Alliance classes include Warrior, Dark Witch, Black Witch, Rogue, Poison Witch, Shaman, Mage, Death Knight, Undead Sorcerer… The Evil Alliance races include Orcs, Hellkin, Undead, Elementals, and so on. Which one would you like to choose?”
All players enter the game with their real appearance. After choosing a race, you gain some racial traits. For example, orcs are taller and hairier, hellkin have bright red skin, and undead have pale skin. Each race also has unique talents: orcs have strength, making them suitable for warrior classes; hellkin have fire and magic resistance talents; undead have Undead Recognition and Undead Will, and so on.
“Which race is best suited for the rogue class?” William Carter asked. For rogues, agility and speed are most important, and William Carter felt this class suited him best—plus, he had some special reasons.
“Both the Undead and Hellkin are well-suited for the rogue class. The Undead’s Undead Will talent can effectively counteract other classes’ control effects on rogues, making them good for battlefield-oriented rogues. Hellkin rogues have strong magic resistance, making them better for team-oriented play,” the guide fairy patiently explained.
“I’ll go with Undead rogue,” William Carter decided after weighing his options. In team play, loot is distributed by the team leader and can’t be freely sold, which isn’t ideal for a professional player. The battlefield route is riskier, but it’s also the easiest way to earn rewards.
System: Do you confirm your choice of Undead Rogue?
Yes!
System: You have chosen your class—Undead Rogue.
After character creation, William Carter checked his appearance. His body hadn’t changed much, but his skin was paler than before, almost ghostly. Seeing himself like this, William Carter breathed a sigh of relief—at least he wasn’t just a pile of bones.
William Carter checked his own stats.
