After patiently waiting for twenty minutes, William Carter finally entered the game. There wasn’t the expected sea of people—perhaps because players had been scattered across different starting points, making the place seem a bit empty. On the main street, a few players in newbie outfits could be seen coming and going.

William Carter was wearing a set of gray cloth clothes with no attributes at all. The workmanship was very ordinary and not particularly good-looking, but at least he wasn’t naked.

System: You were born in the undead nation, in the town of Tabak, Vasat City, Diyah.

Vasat City is the second largest city in the undead nation of Diyah. As for Tabak, it’s just a small town in a corner of Vasat City, not very remarkable among the hundreds of towns in Vasat.

William Carter looked around at the environment. This was a rundown little town, with only a few dilapidated houses scattered around, on the verge of collapse. When the wind blew, yellow sand filled the air like a hazy mist, shrouding the town. Looking out from the town, there was a vast, endless yellow desert.

Most of the undead nation of Diyah is barren desert where no plants grow. Yet, the people of this nation, like cacti, have managed to survive in this wasteland.

There was nothing particularly special about this town. If anything stood out, it was the black river at the edge of the town. This black river flowed past the side of the town, nourishing its land, and continued on into the endless desert. From time to time, wisps of black mist would rise from the river, drifting faintly above Tabak Town.

William Carter took a deep breath. This dark aura seeped into William Carter’s body, making William Carter feel filled with energy.

The water of this river flows from the Dark Holy Spring, the source of power for the undead race. It nourishes all of Diyah.

Just now, during the twenty minutes after choosing his class, the guide sprite had introduced him to the history of Diyah. Diyah is an undead nation, but in fact, its citizens are not undead; they are a race called the Undead. Thousands of years ago, the Undead, like other races, lived in the human nation of the Erathia Empire. But because they were constantly in contact with necromancy, the humans of Erathia saw them as symbols of evil and drove them out, exiling them to the barren wastelands of Diyah. In order to survive, the Undead waged a struggle that lasted for centuries.

After centuries of endurance, the Undead could no longer hold back. The ancestral undead sorcerer Clivens, using forbidden necromantic arts and the artifact ‘Oppressive Wraith’, controlled the Erathian lord Griffin Hart who had been sent to Diyah, and successfully took control of the Erathian province of Diyah. The muddle-headed king of the Erathia Empire, Ethan, made the greatest mistake of his life by expelling all the sorcerers from the country. The sorcerers fought against the Erathia Empire for centuries and eventually established the Bracada Free Kingdom in the far north of the continent, in what was once the Bracada province of Erathia. Later, the undead sorcerer Sander discovered the tomb of the Undead’s progenitor St. Robert in the deserts of Diyah and unlocked the Dark Holy Spring within the tomb. From then on, the Dark Holy Spring flowed throughout Diyah. Besides the Dark Holy Spring, the undead sorcerer Sander also obtained the legendary artifact, the Cloak of the King of Ghosts. This terrifying artifact allowed the necromancy master Sander to summon powerful liches from corpses. The Undead, once facing extinction, finally became strong.

The orcs rose, the infernal race rose, the Bracada Free Kingdom was established, and the provinces of the Erathia Empire declared independence. The Erathia Empire fell apart. The Council of Elders took control of Erathia and renamed it the Erathian Human Kingdom. Thus, on the continent of Enzes, eight nations stood in a standoff: the Erathian Human Kingdom, the Bracada Free Kingdom, the Swamp Nation Bayeldes, the Dwarven Nation Over, the Elven Nation Harmondale, the Undead Nation Diyah, the Orc Nation Tatalia, and the Infernal Nation Krulord.

In this eight-nation standoff, the Undead quickly rose to power, and together with the Orc Nation Tatalia and the Infernal Nation Krulord, formed a powerful Evil Alliance to vie for supremacy. At this time, the Erathian Human Kingdom allied with the Elven Nation Harmondale and the Dwarven Nation Over to form the Angel Alliance. They set aside their prejudices and recognized the Bracada Free Kingdom, bringing it and the Swamp Nation Bayeldes into the Angel Alliance as member states. From then on, the two great alliances—the Angel Alliance and the Evil Alliance—became the main power structure of the continent of Enzes.

Years of war have left deep-seated grudges between the two alliances.

By choosing the undead rogue class, William Carter had become a member of the Undead. From now on, his fate would be closely tied to that of this nation.
