Chapter 9

Except for William Harris, the other three all looked a bit tipsy. Of course, William Harris felt that Little James wasn’t actually as drunk as she appeared—she could probably drink a lot more. After leaving the Gourmet Mansion, Michael Reed led everyone to the Heaven on Earth KTV in the county.

This KTV was the most upscale place in the county. It was rumored that the boss behind the scenes was the director of the county public security bureau. Of course, it was just a rumor—no one had any proof. Even though there was gambling and prostitution inside, nothing had ever happened here. No one would believe this place didn’t have powerful backing.

People who like to have fun all prefer places like this. What they want is safety. Even if it costs more, it’s still better than those places where the police might barge in while you’re with a hostess.

They booked a small private room, and the four of them went inside.

As soon as he walked in, William Harris felt a pain in his head, especially when the singing started in the room—his head was buzzing, and listening to music now was pure torture.

Little James’s voice was very pleasant, and she was beautiful, with a lovely singing voice. A woman like that would be the center of attention wherever she went. Immersed in Little James’s singing, William Harris felt his headache ease a bit.

Now that he’d thought about Michael Reed’s connections, William Harris decided he absolutely couldn’t go up against him in the office—at the very least, he needed to form an alliance.

“Brother Michael, if you don’t ask Little James to dance soon, I’m going to do it myself. Go on, ask her to dance!” He leaned in close to Michael Reed and whispered in his ear. After saying this, William Harris felt a bit nauseous. He knew Little James wasn’t interested in Michael Reed, yet he was still pushing Michael Reed to go after her. Was this some kind of revenge on Little James, or what? For a moment, William Harris couldn’t figure out his own feelings. But one thing he was clear about: Little James didn’t care about him either, so there was no need to make a fool of himself.

Michael Reed gave William Harris a hearty pat on the back, extremely satisfied—this was a friend who really understood him. He’d been planning to ask Little James to dance ever since they got here.

Seeing Henry White pick up the microphone and start singing, Michael Reed immediately said to Little James, “Little James, would you dance with me?”

This time, Little James didn’t refuse. She stood up gracefully and started dancing slowly with Michael Reed.

Watching Henry White, William Harris secretly laughed. This guy was definitely unhappy—he even sang a few lines off-key! Who knows what kind of scheme Little James was up to this time. William Harris suddenly felt like he was watching a play.

Henry White’s singing was nowhere near as good as Little James’s. From the moment he started, William Harris’s head felt like it was about to explode, the noise growing even louder.

It was as if the sound was pounding directly on his head. Just as William Harris felt like his head was about to burst, something unexpected happened that made him forget the pain.

In William Harris’s eyes, all three of them were surrounded by an official aura. In the music, their auras were all white, but the intensity was obvious: Michael Reed’s was the strongest, Little James’s was next, and Henry White’s was the weakest.

The situation was now very clear. Michael Reed’s connections were showing their power—at least someone was helping him now. Little James’s scheme had pretty much succeeded; the Party Secretary would definitely protect her. As for any other connections she might have, that was unclear. Right now, he himself was probably in the worst position! Even Henry White’s aura was a bit stronger than his—at least his was easy to see.

“Brother Michael, look, Brother Harris and Brother Henry don’t have dance partners. Why not call in a couple of hostesses?”

When the song ended and everyone was drinking beer, Little James’s shocking suggestion almost made William Harris spit out his beer. Damn it! She really was a bold woman—never afraid to make a scene. William Harris felt he had to look up to this little lady.

All three men stared at Little James in a daze. Looking at her pure and innocent appearance, like a naive young girl, William Harris could only secretly sigh.

Before Michael Reed and the others could react, Little James had already gone out to call the hostesses.

The three men looked at each other, and the whole room suddenly felt extremely awkward. They all wanted to pursue Little James, and now she’d brought in two hostesses. Who knew how things would develop from here? Were they supposed to hug the hostesses while chasing the beauty, and then say to her, “I’m only hugging the hostess because you made me—I had no choice!”

Following Little James into the room were two very attractive women. Although they couldn’t compare to Little James, their figures were excellent, and they were especially open—large areas of fair skin exposed, enough to stir up a primal urge at a glance.

“Brother Michael, Brother Henry, you two dance with them first. I’ll dance with Brother Harris for a bit,” Little James suddenly said.

Hearing this, and seeing the looks Michael and Henry were giving him—like they wanted to eat him alive—William Harris almost cursed out loud. Now he pretty much understood Little James’s plan: she wanted to use the rivalry between the men to get rid of him first.

Should he dance or not?

Looking at Little James’s pure face, William Harris’s mind raced.

“What’s wrong, Brother Harris, you don’t want to give me face?” Little James said, pretending to be upset.
