Chapter One: The Super Repeater

Jason Clark stood lazily in the training arena, just as usual.

Looking at the young faces before him, he let out a light snort from his nose.

It was the first time these youths had come to the training arena. Anderson Academy was ranked among the top ten schools in Starwind City. Although the training arena’s facilities couldn’t compare to those of the top-ranked Tianchen Academy, they were still quite good.

What’s more, this was the freshmen’s very first practice class, and they were curious about everything.

“I’ve already explained in detail everything from your textbooks. Starting today, aside from your regular theory classes, you’ll spend most of your time here in the training arena. If you want to get into a better academy, hard work and diligent practice are your only paths. Remember, there are no shortcuts in this world. Cultivation is always tedious and dull—don’t count on luck.”

Mr. Bennett’s stern voice echoed across the training arena.

The youths’ eyes were filled with longing and eagerness.

“Today’s lesson is basic swordsmanship. Martial skills, no matter how thoroughly you study the theory, are useless if you don’t practice. But before you try it yourselves, your senior, Jason Clark, will demonstrate for you. Jason Clark is the best student in basic martial skills at Anderson Academy—even I can’t match him in this area. Watch carefully and see what perfect basic swordsmanship looks like.”

Swish—all eyes on the field turned to Jason Clark. That lazy figure suddenly seemed much taller in many people’s eyes.

Jason Clark remained unmoved.

“Jason Clark, go ahead,” said Mr. Bennett.

Jason Clark responded with an “oh,” walked over to the corner sword rack, and drew a wooden sword. The moment the sword was in his hand, his gaze turned sharp and focused, the previous laziness vanishing instantly.

Left leg stepped half a pace back, waist slightly lowered, right elbow tucked in, sword tip raised, eyes level with the tip.

A slight twist of the waist and abdomen, right elbow snapping like a released spring, wrist steady as a rock.

Hiss!

A sharp sound of air being pierced was clearly heard.

Basic Swordsmanship—Thrust!

Many of the youths gasped unconsciously. Most of them had no interest in basic swordsmanship. As the name suggests, it’s the foundation of swordplay, the lowest level of sword technique. It was normal for them to be uninterested, but seeing Jason Clark’s basic swordsmanship with their own eyes—even though the moves were simple—they were filled with an indescribable explosiveness and beauty.

In an instant, these naive youths were captivated.

Jason Clark’s expression was intensely focused. With a sliding step forward, his shoulders didn’t move at all, but his arm snapped like a whip, suddenly flicking, and the wooden sword slashed down fiercely.

Whoosh!

A deep whooshing sound made everyone’s scalp tingle.

The “slash” in basic swordsmanship had a much smaller range than the basic saber technique, but its explosive power was even greater. Jason Clark demonstrated the key points of the “slash” to perfection—the youths could clearly see the wooden sword bending and flexing in the air.

Hearing the youths’ instinctive exclamations, Mr. Bennett was already used to it. Watching Jason Clark in the arena—even though he’d seen Jason Clark practice countless times—he still couldn’t help but be amazed every time. When he said his own basic swordsmanship wasn’t as good as Jason Clark’s, it wasn’t just modesty.

Sweep, block, guide.

Jason Clark’s movements were smooth as flowing water, pleasing to the eye, with no pauses in between, full of explosive power and beauty. When the final move was finished, the whole arena fell silent.

Jason Clark’s face returned to its previous lazy look. With a casual toss, the wooden sword seemed to have eyes, landing right back in the sword rack in the corner.

The freshmen instantly erupted.

“Wow! Amazing! So basic swordsmanship can be this awesome!”

“So cool! So perfect!”

“So handsome! Senior Jason Clark is just the coolest! Senior, senior, please go out with me!” The female students in the crowd had stars in their eyes. Jason Clark’s tall and powerful figure, combined with the basic swordsmanship, perfectly displayed his flexibility—there was nothing clumsy about him, only a sense of coordination and agility.

Jason Clark remained unmoved.

“Tch, ignorant! No matter how good you are at basic martial skills, what’s the use? He’s failed the academy exam five years in a row. Our handsome senior Jason Clark was already demonstrating basic martial skills when my brother started at Anderson. Tsk, my brother’s about to graduate from the academy now.”

A sarcastic voice sounded from the crowd of youths.

All the exclamations immediately vanished without a trace, and the once-admiring gazes quickly turned strange.
