“I also counted five floors. Th-this is it, we’re done for. We can’t get out of here.”
For a moment, everyone was at a loss.
Jason Carter’s face was especially grim, and he didn’t dare to move forward any further. He felt deeply unwilling—was he really going to die here, confused and helpless, in this place?
“Brian Cooper, you bastard, you’re not dead, are you?”
Suddenly, he shouted with a violent tone.
“Jason Carter, I haven’t done anything to you, have I? Don’t go cursing me to die like that,” Brian Cooper said coldly.
Jason Carter turned around, pushed through the crowd, and grabbed Brian Cooper by the collar, snarling, “Since you’re not dead, then lead the way. If it’s you, you’ll definitely make it out alive. With your potential, there’s no way you’d die in this damned place.”
Brian Cooper replied, “You know more than I do. If even you can’t get out, what can I possibly do?”
“You must know something. Are you going to talk or not, damn it?” Jason Carter’s face twisted with rage.
He was already at a dead end and could only pin his hopes on Brian Cooper. If this Brian Cooper could really grow to that level in the future, there’s no way he’d die here.
From earlier until now, he had already started paying attention to this Brian Cooper.
In just a short moment, he had analyzed the pattern of the knocking ghost, and even during the escape, he was clearly counting the number of floors.
There was no doubt—this was someone with an extremely terrifying ability to adapt.
Ordinary people, when suddenly confronted with a ghost domain or a vengeful spirit, would be scared out of their wits, unable to stay calm like him.
This was a kind of talent.
Normally, this kind of talent was pretty useless—even if you had it, you’d probably never use it in your whole life. But in a world turned upside down, this talent could increase your chances of survival. If you could become a ghost handler, this talent would give you a huge advantage when dealing with ghosts.
“Jason Carter, it’s no use asking me. This is my first time in a situation like this too. If I knew how to get out, I wouldn’t still be here. Every extra second in this place is a chance to run into that thing. Do you think I want to die?” Brian Cooper said.
Jason Carter’s heart skipped a beat. Only now did he realize that at this moment, Brian Cooper was still a newcomer who knew nothing.
He felt a bit ridiculous—he was actually asking him for help at a time like this.
Was it the future Brian Cooper’s influence on him that was too great?
“Fang, Jason Carter, something’s wrong, look…” Suddenly, a classmate pointed with a trembling finger at the bathroom door.
Between the third and second floor hallways of the school building, there was a bathroom.
“Damn, after going in circles, we’re still on the second floor landing. Now we’re really screwed.”
“No, that’s not it. Look behind the door—there seems to be a shadow of someone.” The classmate, shaking, raised his phone and shone the light over.
Everyone immediately recoiled in fear.
Behind the glass window of the bathroom door, a tall, blurry human-shaped silhouette appeared in the beam of light.
“Who—who’s in there?” someone called out bravely.
Hoping it was a classmate in the bathroom.
“Creak~!”
A long, drawn-out sound of the door opening rang out, and a pale hand stretched out from the pitch-black bathroom, resting on the door and slowly pushing it open.
“That’s not a person. That’s another ghost.”
Jason Carter’s eyes suddenly narrowed, but then a fierce look appeared on his face.
“Brian Cooper, since you don’t know anything, then get in there for me.”
As he spoke, he grabbed Brian Cooper and, catching him off guard, shoved him into the bathroom.
Chapter 6: The Hand in the Bathroom
The bathroom door opened, and a pale hand reached out from the darkness. Everyone was so terrified they didn’t dare make a sound, their hearts pounding, frozen in fear.
At that moment, Brian Cooper never expected that his classmate Jason Carter would suddenly go crazy and shove him toward the ghost.
“Jason Carter, are you trying to get me killed?”
Brian Cooper gritted his teeth. The moment he realized something was wrong, he immediately reacted and grabbed Jason Carter’s arm.
Their steps halted, and both of them froze in place.
“Brian Cooper, if you don’t die, I’ll never be at peace in this life. Did you really think I was just talking before? You’re still too naive. You knew I’d said that, yet you let your guard down around me. But I expected this—after all, you’re just a clueless student right now, still unaware of how cruel this world is. Today, I’ll teach you a lesson.”
Jason Carter turned and shouted, “Aren’t you going to help? We have to push him in to stall the ghost in the bathroom. If that ghost gets out, you’ll all be finished. If you want to survive, someone has to be sacrificed. There’s no other way.”
Using the greater good to pressure people really worked. Under the threat of a vengeful ghost, people would do anything to survive, especially when given a seemingly legitimate reason.
Immediately, three male classmates, faces full of terror, rushed over and grabbed Brian Cooper.
Four people pushed together—no one could resist that.
In an instant, Brian Cooper was forced backward and quickly pushed to the bathroom door.
The next moment, that pale hand stretching out from the darkness landed on his shoulder. The fingers tightened, cold and stiff, gripping him with a deathly force.
A terrifying strength pulled Brian Cooper toward the pitch-black bathroom behind him.
