Chapter 20

Brian Cooper cursed, immediately turned around and ran over, throwing a punch without hesitation at the ghost infant's head that was strangling Olivia Miller.

If this scene were uploaded online, with him violently beating a baby like this, he would definitely be flamed to death by keyboard warriors.

The ghost infant took a punch, and a part of its head caved in, but it wasn't harmed at all. Its pair of pitch-black eyes stared at Brian Cooper strangely.

“Wagaga...”

With a strange cry, the ghost infant seemed to be enraged, released Olivia Miller, and lunged at Brian Cooper. Its cheeks split open, mouth gaping wider than any human limit, and it swallowed half of his arm in one bite.

Cold, sticky, as if being sucked into a black hole—not only could he not pull his arm out, but his whole body was being drawn into that pitch-black mouth.

“Cough, cough cough.”

At this moment, Olivia Miller was almost collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath.

“Am I going to be eaten?”

Brian Cooper felt his body starting to melt, as if all his flesh and blood were pouring into that mouth, and he was about to be eaten alive.

However—

A sharp pain shot up from his arm.

It was as if his flesh was being forcibly torn apart, and his soul crushed.

The ghost infant let out a painful screech, spat out Brian Cooper's arm, then, as if it had lost all strength, flopped to the ground and quickly crawled away, seemingly fleeing, disappearing up the stairs in no time.

“Damn it, it's that feeling again.”

Brian Cooper broke out in a cold sweat, his whole body trembling in pain, unable to help but scream.

He saw that the half of his arm that had been swallowed by the ghost infant was glowing red, the flesh torn open by something, and one by one, crimson eyeballs emerged from the wound.

Previously, there had only been one eye on the back of his hand, and after the ghost infant's attack, a second eye had appeared at the back of his head.

But now, after being bitten, four eyes had suddenly grown at once.

The number of red eyes was rapidly increasing.

Perhaps it was precisely because of this that the ghost infant was forced to retreat.

“Yang, Brian Cooper, are you okay? Are you alright?”

Olivia Miller, having narrowly escaped death, was still terrified, but she knew in her heart that it was Brian Cooper who had just saved her.

Seeing Brian Cooper writhing in pain on the ground, she anxiously asked, reaching out to help him up.

Suddenly—

Brian Cooper's struggling stopped, and one arm, in a bizarre, joint-reversed position, suddenly reached out and grabbed Olivia Miller's hand. This was not a movement a normal person could make.

There were five eyes on the arm, all turning, staring at her in unison.

“Ah~!”

Olivia Miller was so frightened she collapsed to the ground, letting out a scream.

But soon, the five eyes on the arm closed again.

At this moment, Brian Cooper's voice sounded: “I'm fine. As expected, it's hard to be a good person—almost got myself killed saving you. I just can't be as ruthless as Jason Carter.”

The pain quickly subsided. He stood up, face pale, leaning against the wall, his whole body twitching.

That soul-crushing pain was something he never wanted to experience again.

“Being bitten by that thing felt like I was about to be eaten alive. Is this the power of the ghost infant in Eric Clark's stomach? Truly terrifying... and it seems that thing can even grow stronger.”

Brian Cooper looked at his arm. He felt many things writhing under his skin, ready to burst out at any moment.

The presence of those eyes was growing stronger and stronger.

They were indeed awakening.

“S-sorry, I dragged you down,” Olivia Miller said softly.

“It’s fine. Saving you was my own choice. I just don’t want to become someone like Jason Carter, who will do anything to survive. Besides, from the moment I was pushed into the bathroom, I was already dead. Now I’m just barely hanging on with the power of the ghost. Every extra minute is a bonus. Even if I didn’t save you, I wouldn’t last much longer,” Brian Cooper said.

After all this, he finally understood his own situation.

“Don’t just stand there. Come with me, quick. If that thing comes back, we’ll all die here,” Brian Cooper said, enduring the pain.

Olivia Miller, choking back tears, said, “I—I have no strength left, I can’t walk.”

Brian Cooper saw two dark green handprints on the back of Olivia Miller’s neck.

They were left by the ghost infant, like tattoos, especially conspicuous.

And the dark green color was spreading outward, like an acute infection.

He felt a chill in his heart, but didn’t mention it, as now was not the time.

The ghost infant had only been temporarily repelled by him; it might come back at any moment.

If it attacked a few more times, Brian Cooper felt he would end up like Eric Clark, dying from the ghost’s resurrection.

“I’ll help you out. You can still walk, right?” He helped Olivia Miller up, feeling her whole body trembling.

That was the result of extreme fear.

She said nothing, but her body was honest.

“I—I can still walk.”

Olivia Miller said, her body instinctively leaning toward Brian Cooper.

She wasn’t doing it on purpose; it was just a woman’s instinct to seek protection from a strong man in the face of terror.
