Chapter 5

Jack Carter really never imagined that one day, he would have to rely on his looks to make a living. Hearing this, he couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, while a vague sense of helplessness and the passage of time welled up in his heart.

Being a working stiff isn’t easy!

As Jack Carter sighed inwardly about the helplessness of life, he clearly felt a subtle, indescribable change in his state of mind, as if the once restless heart of a naive youth was gradually maturing.

My master’s warning not to use Wu Sect magic to gain money or power was truly well-intentioned! Sensing the subtle shift in his mindset, Jack Carter couldn’t help but think of the old wizard Wu Ze, who had taught him the arts of the Wu Sect.

While Jack Carter was lost in thought, Grace Bennett had already picked up her phone and called her boss. After a brief conversation, she hung up and said, “I’ve spoken to my boss. He wants you to go to the bar at five o’clock. You’re free at that time, right?”

“No problem, what could an unemployed drifter like me possibly have to do?” Jack Carter replied with a self-deprecating smile.

“Then it’s settled. I’ll wait for you at the entrance of BULENIGHT on Nanshan Road at five this afternoon,” Grace Bennett said.

With the job arranged, the two chatted idly as they ate, and soon finished their meal.

After eating, they got ready to leave. But as soon as Grace Bennett stood up, she hissed in pain, sucked in a breath, and sat back down—her left ankle was still hurting badly.

Chapter 3: You Really Have a Skill

“I learned some techniques for promoting circulation and treating sprains and bruises from an old man. Want me to take a look at it for you?” Jack Carter hesitated for a moment before offering.

“Really? Then why didn’t you say so earlier… Hurry up and help me, or I won’t be able to work tonight.” Grace Bennett was first surprised, then rolled her eyes, and suddenly remembered that Jack Carter had actually mentioned this before—she’d just misunderstood. Her pretty face flushed slightly.

Seeing Grace Bennett urge him, Jack Carter squatted down in front of her foot.

Heaven knows, when Jack Carter squatted down, he really just wanted to check Grace Bennett’s sprained ankle. But he forgot that Grace Bennett was wearing a denim miniskirt. The tight, short, and somewhat stiff denim barely covered the outsides of her full thighs, but left the area between her legs completely exposed. As Jack Carter squatted, his gaze was directly in line with the open space, where a palm-sized piece of pink, sheer fabric barely covered the mysterious area, faintly visible and endlessly alluring.

Women are sensitive about certain parts of their bodies. The moment Jack Carter’s gaze unintentionally landed between her legs, Grace Bennett immediately sensed something was off. She hurriedly pressed her skirt down between her legs with one hand, and with the other, tapped Jack Carter on the forehead, blushing as she spat, “Hey, where are you looking?”

“Ahem!” Jack Carter felt guilty and quickly lowered his head, grabbing Grace Bennett’s foot at random.

“Ow! Be gentle!” Grace Bennett gasped as Jack Carter’s careless movements caused her pain.

“Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean to.” Seeing Grace Bennett in pain, Jack Carter nearly broke out in a cold sweat. He really hadn’t expected that helping a woman with a foot injury could be such a daunting task.

Of course, Grace Bennett knew Jack Carter didn’t do it on purpose. Otherwise, if a grown man dared squat down and peek under her skirt, she would have kicked him in the head long ago. But what a woman knows in her heart and what she says out loud are two different things.

“Hmph, let’s see how you do. If you can fix my ankle, then it means you weren’t up to anything. If you can’t, then it means you had bad intentions from the start.” Grace Bennett tapped Jack Carter on the forehead again, saying fiercely.

Jack Carter couldn’t help but smile wryly at her words. Alright, next time a girl twists her ankle or something, I’d better not let my kindness get the better of me, or I’ll end up being labeled a pervert.

Fortunately, although Jack Carter had fallen on hard times and needed to work at a bar to make money, as the inheritor of the bloodline of the Wu King Xia Yu and a wizard who had practiced Wu Sect magic since childhood, a mere sprain was nothing to him.

Jack Carter gently held Grace Bennett’s small foot. It was a beautiful foot, with a rounded ankle, pearly white jade-like toes, and a shapely calf that curved gracefully up to her full thigh. But right now, the rounded ankle was a bit red and swollen—clearly, the sprain had been rather serious, and if not treated promptly, she might not even be able to work tomorrow.

“It might hurt a bit at first, so try to bear with it.” Jack Carter didn’t dare look too long at those beautiful legs. He gave her a heads-up, then gently began to massage the injured part of Grace Bennett’s left foot with both hands.

As soon as Jack Carter started massaging, Grace Bennett felt waves of piercing pain. But since Jack Carter had warned her, she didn’t cry out—she just furrowed her brows tightly, showing a trace of pain on her face.

But soon, Grace Bennett felt the sharp pain turn into a warm current, as if her foot was soaking in warm water. It felt so comfortable she almost moaned, her tense nerves gradually relaxing, and without realizing it, she loosened the hand that had been pressing her skirt down.

As soon as she let go, the denim smoothed out again, and that faintly visible allure was once more fully exposed to Jack Carter.
