Chapter 1

Chapter 1: New Life

The small prison gate opened. Stepping out, sunlight shone on Jason Carter. He raised his hand to shield his eyes, squinting as he slowly adjusted to the spring-like sunshine.

He was out!

Jason Carter felt an urge to cry.

Three years!

After serving three years in prison, Jason Carter felt as if a century had passed. In those three years, he had gained so many insights.

“Brother!”

At this moment, a young girl called out timidly.

“Xiaofei!”

That voice he had longed for echoed at the same time.

Blinking, Jason Carter cried out, “Mom!” As soon as he called out, Jason Carter had already knelt before the weary, timeworn middle-aged woman in front of him.

“Brother…” His younger sister, Olivia Carter, was already holding Jason Carter’s hand.

“It’s good you’re out, it’s good you’re out!” Grace Bennett gripped Jason Carter’s hand, tears streaming down her face.

“Jason Carter, now that you’re out, be a new man. Don’t come back in here again!”

The prison guard looked at Jason Carter and said this, then turned and walked away.

The prison gate closed again.

Staring at the closed door, Jason Carter stood there in a daze, scenes from his time in prison flashing before his eyes.

Jason Carter was filled with emotion. Ever since that incident, he knew his life had completely changed.

The various inmates he met in prison had taught him so much, filling him with confidence for life after release.

Of course, that wasn’t the most important thing. The key was the ancient cultivation inheritance he had received at the time. All that knowledge was stored in his mind. Although he couldn’t test it in prison, the contents were firmly imprinted in his memory, impossible to forget.

After secretly cultivating for three years, Jason Carter could clearly feel that his body had undergone tremendous changes.

Where was Xiaofang?

Jason Carter looked around, a beautiful girl’s image surfacing in his mind.

“Brother, what are you looking for? Stop looking. Emily Thompson already moved on. Mom never let me tell you.”

His little sister, now a grown girl, immediately saw through her brother’s thoughts and snorted.

“Son, let’s go home!”

Grace Bennett wiped her eyes with her sleeve.

Turning to his sister, he heard Olivia Carter say, “Brother, so much has happened in these three years. You don’t know, but now the two of them are living together!”

Clenching his fists, Jason Carter forced a smile and said, “Let’s go home.”

“Son, now that you’re out, just live your life well. We don’t need a woman like that.”

“Mom, I know.”

Jason Carter wasn’t a city dweller, but a country boy from a very poor farming family. However, he was smart from a young age, always at the top of his class. He attended middle and high school in the county town. In his senior year, while hanging out with classmates like Brian Cooper, a dispute broke out, escalating into a group fight.

Jason Carter still remembered the situation clearly. Some street thugs were harassing Emily Thompson, and a fight broke out. In the end, Brian Cooper accidentally stabbed one of the thugs to death.

Originally, Jason Carter wasn’t in much trouble—at most, he’d be educated and released. But Brian Cooper’s father pulled some strings and pinned the murder on Jason Carter.

At that time, something happened at Jason Carter’s home—his father was hit by a car and urgently needed surgery. But the Wang family simply couldn’t afford the operation or the high medical costs.

At that moment, Brian Cooper’s father appeared before Jason Carter and offered a deal: if Jason Carter agreed to take the blame, he would cover all of Jason Carter’s father’s medical expenses.

Thinking of his father’s condition, not yet graduated from high school and only seventeen, Jason Carter resolutely agreed to take the fall.

The result was that Jason Carter was sentenced to ten years and sent to prison.

Fortunately, Jason Carter behaved well inside, and with the help of some influential friends he made, he was released after three years.

The past was like smoke. Jason Carter didn’t mind taking the blame—it was just a transaction. What saddened him was still Emily Thompson. The whole thing started because of her, and he went to prison for her. In three years, she never visited him, and now she had gone off with another man without a word.

“Dad, are you better?” Seeing his father standing by the cart, face full of excitement, Jason Carter felt his nose sting.

“Xiaofei, your father owes you!”

William Carter grabbed his son’s hand, his voice choked with emotion.

“No, as long as you recover, everything is fine.”

“Old man, hurry up and drive the cart. Let’s go home.”

Grace Bennett shot William Carter a glare.

“Alright, let’s go home, let’s go home.”
