Jason Carter walked along, recalling the amazement he felt when Aunt Grace had just married into the village. He remembered that he was seventeen when she arrived!
Unknowingly, three years had passed!
Jason Carter shook his head, feeling his lost memories returning.
"Spring Breeze Grass!"
As he was walking, a wild herb caught Jason Carter's attention.
Quickly approaching the wild herb, Jason Carter brought up the information about Spring Breeze Grass from his memory and carefully compared it. Instantly, a smile appeared on his face—it really was the medicinal herb he needed.
Carefully digging up the Spring Breeze Grass and putting it into his basket, Jason Carter regained confidence in the knowledge from his memory.
What Jason Carter worried about most was that the herbs in his memory might now be extinct. Although these herbs were considered the most common in that vast body of knowledge—supposedly found by the roadside—so much time had passed that Jason Carter was still concerned.
Now that he had found this herb, Jason Carter finally let go of that worry.
"Xiaofei, why are you digging up pig grass?" At this moment, a hearty voice called out.
Looking up, Jason Carter saw it was David Reed and quickly said, "Uncle Reed, hello."
"I say, Jason, that wild grass is all over the mountain. What do you want it for? Your family doesn't raise pigs, do they?"
"I learned some herbal knowledge from someone in prison. I'm up in the mountains trying to identify herbs."
"Oh, there aren't many medicinal herbs on this mountain, but there sure is a lot of wild grass. Be careful, there are plenty of snakes up here too."
After a few words, David Reed headed down the mountain.
Watching David Reed walk away, Jason Carter continued searching for the herbs he needed.
When Jason Carter found another Spring Breeze Grass, he realized David Reed was right—this herb was truly common, growing everywhere on the mountain.
As time went on, Jason Carter's basket filled up with the herbs he needed.
Now Jason Carter also understood that the knowledge he had gained was so ancient that many of the herbs had completely different names now.
"Brother, why did you dig up so much wild grass?" Olivia Carter saw Jason Carter put down his basket and immediately came over to take a look.
"Is this the medicinal herb you were talking about?" Grace Bennett also came over to look, her eyes filled with deep concern.
Jason Carter smiled and said, "Don't underestimate these things. In fact, everything in this world has value—even wild grass by the roadside has its worth. Whether it's useful or not depends on the formula. As long as the combination is right, their effects can be powerful."
After gathering these herbs, Jason Carter felt even more confident in the knowledge in his mind, and he spoke with a new sense of authority.
Looking at Jason Carter's face for a moment, Olivia Carter smiled and said, "Brother, you really know a lot!"
Grace Bennett also smiled and said, "Alright, alright, what you say makes sense."
"Mom, do we have any liquor at home? Old Baigan is fine."
"We do, we do, there's still half a jar left. Your grandfather bought it back in the day, and we've never used it."
At this, Grace Bennett thought of Jason Carter's late grandfather, and her expression grew somber.
Looking at the very old clay jar, Jason Carter nodded and said, "Alright, I'll make medicinal wine."
Using the techniques he had learned, Jason Carter busied himself in the house.
For Spring Breeze Grass, only a section from the tip of the root could be used; for cypress bark, only the layer sandwiched inside; for Three-Joint Grass, only the second joint...
Jason Carter didn't know what these herbs were called nowadays; he just found them one by one according to the names in his memory, and then prepared them as required.
"Brother, why do you only take a small piece of each one?" Olivia Carter looked at her brother curiously. She found that since he came back, he seemed a bit unfamiliar—he knew so much now and was no longer the impulsive person he used to be, but instead acted very steady.
Her brother had changed!
Watching Jason Carter work, Olivia Carter became even more puzzled.
"This is pharmacological knowledge. You don't understand yet. This medicinal wine is what will pay for your school fees."
Jason Carter smiled as he talked to his little sister while working.
After carefully inspecting the jar of liquor and making sure it was fine, Jason Carter added the prepared herbs into the jar in the order required by his memory.
When he finished, Jason Carter sealed the jar and smiled at his sister, "Alright, we can sell it for money tomorrow."
Pointing at the jar, Olivia Carter said, "You can sell this for money?" She started laughing as she spoke.
Jason Carter laughed as well. "If you don't believe it, that's fine."
At lunch, William Carter also heard about Jason Carter making medicinal wine. He sighed and said, "Son, take your time with the debt. Don't rush. Rest at home for a while, and when you're ready, think about your future."
"That's right, Jason, don't worry."
