Don’t think that self-study means you can choose as you please—this involves consuming tuition fees and your social credit record. The speed and quality with which you complete your coursework are factors that count toward your evaluation as a citizen and your credit score.
Sean Foster didn’t pay much attention to this. He closed that item and moved on to the next, arranging his other courses. He found that, although the world was different, many principles were still universal. The perspectives on society in basic social politics and basic social economics were somewhat different, but there were still many similarities. So, with his current level of study, he could resolve them quickly.
The only thing he couldn’t solve quickly was history.
The requirements for second-level history were to systematically review all historical dynasties and grasp the important events and influences of each dynasty, but without demanding too much specificity about dates and names—that was the requirement for third-level history.
Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han—the turning point in history came during the Tang dynasty. After that, the history, dynasties, and events were completely different from the history he knew. The Han lineage of Huaxia was never successfully invaded by steppe tribes again. Although there were several changes of dynasty, the orthodox line continued to the present day, and the country’s status as a world power was established.
Sean Foster didn’t bother to think about why this was so. Just then, a message came through. Sean Foster didn’t delay any longer and opened the mentor space. Instantly, the live teaching model was activated.
Yvonne Clark appeared on the screen. She was only twenty-three years old, with a background of lush cherry blossom trees. She wore a white dress that set off her snow-like delicate features, dignified and elegant. People in this world seemed to be of high quality, regardless of gender.
Yvonne Clark also saw the big boy on the other side of the screen, who was staring at her in a daze. At a glance, she was drawn to him, as if he carried some mysterious aura.
But of course, no one really lost their composure. Sean Foster greeted her automatically, bowing slightly: “Hello, Mentor Clark.”
“Hello, Sean Foster. Your student number is C—YJX—7842. You’ve chosen math courses from level two to level four?” At this moment, Yvonne Clark spoke seriously: “Isn’t that a bit too many courses?”
“It’s fine. I want to study seriously, even if it takes a few years.”
“In that case, let me first test your level so I can teach you accordingly. What level have you reached now?” Yvonne Clark didn’t usually make small talk with students at times like this.
“I’ve completed level two and just started level three, but I haven’t taken the level two certification yet,” Sean Foster answered quickly. “My family has level three textbooks, so I started learning a bit in advance.”
Chapter 2: Skill Teaching Tree (Part 2)
“Oh, then do a few level two math problems for me now and explain each one,” Yvonne Clark said.
Sean Foster immediately complied, solving the problems on the spot and explaining each one.
Although it was possible to cheat, there was really no point. Yvonne Clark saw this and nodded. “Since that’s the case, you’ve already started level three, right? How many hours a day are you planning to spend studying math?”
“Well… I plan to spend five hours a day. Please arrange the course schedule,” Sean Foster said. In reality, he wouldn’t need five hours, but this was just to explain his rapid progress.
Yvonne Clark frowned, a bit surprised. “Five hours of lessons every day? That’s a heavy workload you’ve set for yourself. What about your other courses?”
“It’s fine. I’ll arrange the other courses myself.”
“If you’re determined, that’s good. Level three math has two hundred hours of instruction. I’ll arrange the curriculum. When do you want to start?”
“I’ll officially start tomorrow, and take Sundays off.”
Yvonne Clark nodded and said, “Alright.”
She had plenty of things to do herself and certainly wouldn’t chat with a student for long. Once the schedule was set, the meeting ended.
After the mentor space closed, Sean Foster browsed his other courses. For those that could be certified, he submitted applications to take the certification exams during the September school period. The only exception was history, which he had to study from the beginning. Fortunately, Sean Foster’s original memories gave him some foundation, so as long as he sorted things out, he’d be fine.
To understand this world, he had to understand its history. After thinking it over, he still applied for second-level history instruction, with the same mentor as before—no changes.
Classical Chinese, however, was a weak point. This country had always maintained a tradition of classical literature. While education in this area on Earth wasn’t exactly nonexistent, it was almost barren. Luckily, Sean Foster came from a scholarly family, and with his inherited memories, he was confident he could complete level two classical Chinese.
As for foreign languages, he looked up some basic materials and found that English was still available. Although some grammar and vocabulary were different, it was generally understandable. Back on Earth, he had passed level four English, which in this world was roughly equivalent to level three English. After some thought, he decided to add a foreign language—English—and applied for both basic and level one English, as well as a mentor. He even obtained possible access to international chat spaces.
Busy until noon, he finally settled all his courses. With a big sigh, feeling truly dizzy, he went down to the supermarket and bought a large amount of food supplies. Originally, Sean Foster didn’t know how to cook and often went out to eat, so his fridge was basically empty. Now, that was no longer the case. He pushed his cart home, loaded the fridge with raw ingredients, casually made two dishes and a soup, and filled his stomach.
