Chapter 19

However, in his heart, he had already cursed that guy who ran away half to death—I've been at the library for three months and never seen this tomboy, but the one day you bring over some materials, she just happens to come to borrow a book?

That pretty boy really has no bottom line, betraying his classmate without a second thought.

“Oh, that’s just perfect,” Yvonne King nodded, unable to resist asking again, “That guy who ran away just now... from the Ugly Class?”

“He’s Ethan Shaw from the Chen Class, my roommate,” William Thompson betrayed his brother without hesitation, and even did so with a righteous look on his face. “He really... likes you, senior!”

“Tsk,” Yvonne King smacked her lips and strode toward the library, her heart feeling heavy.

She wasn’t particularly pretty—at best, she could be called decent-looking, and her build was burly. She’d been at the academy for over a year, and not a single boy had shown interest in her.

Chapter 10: Eyes Wide Open for Money

At this academy, there were very few girls. Of course, the ratio wasn’t as extreme as the current Chen Class’s eleven to one, which was outrageous, but in any case, a two-to-one ratio was more than enough.

With such a gender ratio, it wasn’t a matter of two boys fighting over one girl, but rather, after one girl was pursued, the loser would automatically look for the next target... until he became the winner.

Any woman who could enter this academy was destined to be in high demand. The reason was simple: there were so few women who could achieve anything in cultivation. Once they graduated and entered the system, at the very least, their families would be well provided for, and... basically, no one would bully them.

And Yvonne King was also a female student at the academy, yet no one pursued her. To say she didn’t feel a bit of regret would be a lie.

She’d heard that this ridiculously handsome junior secretly had a crush on her, and her mood soared, but she still maintained her composure, thinking, I can’t just agree so easily—I need to find out what kind of person he is first.

She knew that William Thompson was an orphan and didn’t have much money, but that wasn’t a big problem—she hadn’t agreed to anything yet, after all.

I just haven’t come to the library in a long time and wanted to borrow a book. That’s all there is to it.

However, when she came around the back of the library and was about to turn the corner, she suddenly overheard that conversation. One can imagine her frustration—damn you, you fat bastard!

The fat guy deserved it, but the handsome one was innocent. She quickly adjusted her mood and went into the library to pick out a book.

Soon, she picked out a book and came to the library’s checkout desk. “Kid, I’d like to borrow this one.”

“‘The Defiant Path of a Poor Female Cultivator’?” William Thompson looked up at her in surprise. “A storybook?”

The academy library did have storybooks. Although cultivators were supposed to focus on their own progress, reading a few storybooks for relaxation was also a way to balance work and rest.

“Cultivation has been a bit tough lately,” Yvonne King replied calmly. She had already decided not to have too much interaction with this guy, but since the handsome one had always been polite, she wouldn’t show her emotions—after all, it was the fat guy’s fault, not his.

“Then let me recommend one for you,” William Thompson said enthusiastically. “‘The Road Only Gets Wider,’ a lesser-known storybook, but I think it should really be called ‘A Female Cultivator’s Self-Cultivation.’”

“Is that so?” Yvonne King looked at him oddly, then nodded after a while. “I’ll go pick it out.”

It didn’t take her long to come back with the book, handing it to the library desk while muttering under her breath, “I skimmed through this book, and it seems pretty preachy.”

William Thompson first buried his head in processing the borrowing procedure, then looked up and gave her a hearty smile. “Senior, this book is really good... please trust me.”

“Trust you?” Yvonne King couldn’t help but smile, even though she was in a bad mood. “You’re just an outer dorm student.”

This was the confidence an inner dorm student should have—it had nothing to do with arrogance.

“Ha,” William Thompson laughed again. “As a library manager... as the library checker, please trust my integrity. Let the professionals handle professional matters.”

Yvonne King raised her thick eyebrows, wanting to say something, but in the end, she held back.

She walked to the library door, then turned back. “Didn’t you want to know about Weiwei?”

William Thompson waved with a smile. “I’m about to get off work. You’re not in a good mood today—let’s talk another day.”

Is my mood really that bad? Yvonne King was burly and straightforward, and thought to herself, Well, at least there’s finally a boy who has a crush on me, even though that guy... is really a bit too fat. I could never agree.

After getting off work at the library, William Thompson returned to the dorm, planning to see what “don’t go back to the dorm after class” was all about.

Unfortunately, Ethan Shaw wasn’t there—apparently, he’d gone to participate in a sports club activity.

The sports club was one of the organizations at Boling Academy. Don’t get the wrong idea—this kind of club wasn’t a “lively social group,” but a real student organization within the academy.

As a fat guy who suffered a lot of discrimination, Ethan Shaw generally didn’t like joining clubs—more people meant more trouble. But the sports club was an exception; it was one of the largest organizations in the academy.
