Chapter 1

Prologue

Yanjing, with a population in the tens of millions, is the largest metropolis in Huaxia. If you stand atop one of Yanjing’s skyscrapers and look down, all you see are endless matchboxes—countless tall and short buildings packed tightly together.

At this moment, two women stood atop the headquarters building of Ning’s Herbal Medicine in Yanjing. One wore a white velvet dress, her expression calm. If you looked closely, you’d find she was an extraordinarily beautiful young woman. Her dress fluttered slightly in the breeze, and paired with her stunning features, she looked like a celestial maiden from the heavens—so ethereal that people only dared admire her from afar, feeling as if even approaching her was a kind of blasphemy.

“Qingxue, are you really going to marry that, that Tian... whatever his name is, Ethan Brooks?” The speaker was the woman beside her, dressed in red. Though she was also quite attractive, she was still outshone by the girl in white.

The girl in white gazed silently at the endless skyscrapers in the distance, and the streams of cars and people below, no bigger than ants. She seemed utterly detached from it all.

The girl in red sighed and said, “Qingxue, I know you don’t want to marry that good-for-nothing Ethan Brooks. Honestly, who in this world could be worthy of you? I know you only said you’d marry Ethan Brooks at that party out of anger, or maybe just to use that loser as a shield. But Qingxue, for girls of our status, marriage has never been something we could decide for ourselves. Block it once, and there will be more times. If you keep using that loser as a shield, with the means those young masters in the capital have, they might just make that loser disappear forever. Then you’d have no more excuses.”

The girl in white frowned and said, “I never told anyone to kill him. Besides, what does his life or death have to do with me? Ever since our engagement, I haven’t even known if he’s round or flat. If he really gets killed, he can only blame himself. Megan Clark, didn’t you say he’s struggling just to get by? Give him a million, consider it payment for me using him as a shield. After this, don’t mention him again. I am me, he is him, we have nothing to do with each other.”

“Qingxue, if you give him a million, you’ll just get him killed faster. Do you know what kind of person he is? A wastrel who doesn’t even have the right to be a wastrel, abandoned by his family. If he gets a million, he’ll probably show off all over the streets. I think two thousand is enough.” The woman called Megan Clark quickly replied.

“Fine, you handle it. I don’t want to be bothered with these things anymore.” After saying this, the girl in white fell silent, staring blankly at the distant sky, lost in her thoughts.

Chapter 1 Is Your Little Chick Okay

“Ethan Brooks, Ethan Brooks, are you alright? Hurry up and get up, class is about to start. This period is with the merciless Bing, so get up quickly.” An anxious voice sounded in Ethan Brooks’s ear, giving him a strange feeling.

“This idiot probably can’t face anyone, so he’s covering his face.” Another voice sounded by his ear, but this time Ethan Brooks woke up.

Ethan Brooks looked around in confusion. He didn’t recognize anyone; all the faces were unfamiliar.

Seeing Ethan Brooks’s bewildered expression, another burst of laughter erupted. It was obvious the laughter was directed at him. Seeing the people around him laughing, seemingly mocking him, he didn’t dare ask questions and could only stay on guard, wary of anyone trying to harm him.

He glanced at the classmate sitting next to him, who seemed to be the only one not laughing at him. It was this person who had kindly nudged him awake.

“Where am I? Who are you? Why does this feel like a classroom?” Ethan Brooks asked in surprise, almost instinctively.

“Haha...” Another round of laughter broke out.

“Ethan Brooks, I think you’re confused from anger. How could you just write a love letter to Yan Yan? You could get away with it when you were still with the Ye family, but now you’re not. Be careful from now on. The next class is with the English teacher Yun Bing, so don’t let her catch you.” His deskmate whispered in Ethan Brooks’s ear, so quietly that only Ethan Brooks could hear. Clearly, he was worried too.

“I really don’t remember. My head hurt badly just now, and I forgot a lot of things,” Ethan Brooks said helplessly.

His deskmate sighed, obviously not believing that Ethan Brooks could forget everything in such a short time. He just thought Ethan Brooks was saving face. He still hadn’t accepted reality—he was no longer the Ethan Brooks of the Ye family.

A wave of pain throbbed in Ethan Brooks’s head. He remembered being with his master Liam Carter refining a Rejuvenation Pill, then the group from Xiliu Sect attacked. After that, there were explosions and the sounds of fierce fighting. He remembered his master carrying him and using a teleportation talisman, but how did he end up here? Is this still Luoyue Continent?
