Chapter 15

“Ethan Brooks, you? Do you know who he is?” Emma Foster also hadn’t expected this Ethan Brooks to be so fierce, not even giving face to the number one young master of Harris University. Charles Reed’s father is the deputy mayor of Ninghai, and his mother’s Qiu’s Industries is also one of China’s top 100 enterprises. By all accounts, there shouldn’t be anyone at Harris University who doesn’t know him.

Such a rich young master was actually told to get lost by Ethan Brooks right to his face. This Ethan Brooks really does seem to have some issues in his head, but she actually liked his behavior.

Emma Foster quickly recovered, but in her heart she admired Ethan Brooks. He had helped her get rid of a pest, and it was a pest she particularly disliked. She immediately smiled sweetly and said, “Ethan Brooks, I’ve heard your name for a long time. I didn’t expect you’d even dare to scold Charles Reed. Thank you so much for today. How about this, my treat—let’s go have a meal together.”

For Emma Foster to say this, in her mind, was giving him a huge honor. Who else could get an invitation from her, Emma Foster? The line of people wanting to invite her out already stretched out of Ninghai. In her mind, Ethan Brooks should be delighted to accept, then follow her around in awe, constantly thanking her for the invitation.

But once again, to her great surprise, Ethan Brooks actually looked at her with a hint of disgust, didn’t even bother to reply, and turned around to enter the library, as if she were just a puff of air, leaving the dumbfounded Emma Foster standing outside.

It wasn’t until Ethan Brooks had been inside the library for quite a while that Emma Foster finally snapped out of it. This guy actually acted like that? When had she, Emma Foster, ever been treated so coldly, especially when she was the one inviting him to eat? Being ignored by such a loser made her feel as if she’d swallowed a fly, her face alternating between red and white.

No way, no matter what, I can’t lose face like this. I don’t believe I can’t get you to accept my invitation. With this thought, Emma Foster also walked into the library.

Even though it was Saturday, the Harris University library was packed, with no empty seats left. As soon as Emma Foster entered, she spotted Ethan Brooks. He was standing in front of a row of medical bookshelves, flipping through a book in his hands.

Emma Foster let out a cold laugh. Still pretending to study medicine, yet he couldn’t even get a seat. She felt a bit of contempt for this guy.

But as soon as Emma Foster entered the library, several handsome guys immediately scrambled to give up their seats. Being able to sit next to Emma Foster was an honor—she was the number one beauty at Harris University, after all.

Other people came in and couldn’t find a seat, but Emma Foster could pick whichever one she wanted. She chose a spot where she could see Ethan Brooks and sat down. Just a single smile from her left the guy who gave up his seat dizzy for ages. Emma Foster casually picked up a book, but in reality, she was watching Ethan Brooks. In her view, Ethan Brooks was just putting on a show and wouldn’t last even half an hour before leaving.

But to Emma Foster’s surprise, several half-hours passed, and Ethan Brooks showed no intention of leaving, nor did he seem to want to find a seat.

He read at an incredible speed, standing right by that row of medical bookshelves. In an hour, he’d go through three or four books, and Emma Foster could see clearly that he read each book quickly but thoroughly, not missing a single page. His page-turning speed was simply astonishing.

Pretending, just keep pretending. At that speed, let alone understanding the content, even just reading the titles would be a stretch.

Ethan Brooks was already immersed in the medical works here. Ninghai University’s medical school was quite famous, so the medical books here were fairly comprehensive. But to Ethan Brooks’s disappointment, although there were some novel aspects, none of them went beyond a certain framework.

Whether it was Chinese or Western medicine, it was all the same. Still, he memorized everything he read. His memory was already formidable, and now that he was at the first level of Qi training, he had a bit of spiritual sense, so reading these books barely took him any time.

Compared to the cultivation techniques he practiced, this stuff was worlds apart. If he were at the Foundation Establishment stage, he could finish reading all the medical bookshelves in five hours. If he were at the Core Formation stage, he could finish the entire library in three hours. If he were already at the Nascent Soul stage, he wouldn’t even need to enter the library—a sweep of his spiritual sense and nothing here could escape him.

Books, after all, were just books, far inferior to the contents of jade slips. But how could the Nascent Soul stage be possible? Even in his previous life, he was only a Foundation Establishment cultivator.

Emma Foster, on the other hand, grew more and more anxious as she waited. It was already past three in the afternoon, and he was still reading, not even stopping for lunch. Because she had to keep an eye on him, she could only wait with an empty stomach.

She didn’t understand why she was so determined to get him to listen to her and have a meal, but his refusal just made her feel uncomfortable.

Just as Emma Foster was reaching the end of her patience, Ethan Brooks finally put down the book in his hand and walked out of the library.

Seeing this, Emma Foster immediately followed him out.

“What do you want now?” Ethan Brooks’s voice was cold. Clearly, he had always known Emma Foster was following him.

“Ah…” Emma Foster was startled by Ethan Brooks’s sudden question. But she quickly recovered and hurriedly said, “It’s like this—because you helped me this morning, I sincerely want to treat you to a meal. I don’t want to owe you a favor, otherwise I’ll feel very, very…”
