Chapter 10

He had just touched the colorful caterpillar with his finger.

Suddenly, as if sensing something, the caterpillar arched its body, and the hairs on its body shot out like rain, striking the gloves of Brian Carter's nano battle armor and exploding instantly.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

The explosions weren't violent, but the titanium alloy nano gloves on Brian Carter's hands corroded at a speed visible to the naked eye under the impact.

"Damn!"

Startled, Brian Carter immediately dispersed the nano gloves, shook off the corrosive substance produced by the explosion, and quickly materialized a new pair of nano gloves.

"It's just a caterpillar, does it really have to be this fierce?!"

Swallowing nervously, he conjured up a glass shield to block in front of him, then produced a pair of ceramic tweezers, trying to use them to grab the caterpillar. But the caterpillar arched its body again, launching another volley of long hairs that exploded against the glass shield with a series of pops, shattering it to pieces.

This forced Brian Carter to keep changing materials, trying to see what could withstand the caterpillar's long hair bombs. Yet, even after the caterpillar had shot off all its long hairs, nothing could block these long hair bombs.

"Terrifying, truly terrifying. Luckily, I came fully prepared—otherwise, I wouldn't even know how I'd die here!" Still shaken, Brian Carter's eyes flashed as he used the tweezers to pick up the now hairless colorful caterpillar—no, at this point, it was a white-skinned caterpillar.

Without its colorful hairs, the caterpillar revealed its white skin.

About a finger long, somewhat stout, he clamped it and then took out a test tube, stuffed the caterpillar inside, capped it, and placed it in a temporary storage box on the arm of his nano battle armor.

"This thing is definitely valuable. I can take it back for further study... but now that it's lost its long hairs, I wonder if they'll grow back."

In his view, the greatest value of this colorful caterpillar was its long hairs that could explode at any time.

"I'll call you Bomb Caterpillar." While studying the colorful caterpillar, Brian Carter had already taken photos and videos, recording the data and storing it on a solid-state drive.

He planned to record his entire journey in this new world, documenting every detail.

He got up and walked on. Since just one caterpillar was so dangerous, he moved with extreme caution, afraid he might accidentally step on a dead leaf and set off an explosion. He first approached a large tree; the leaves and the branches of its crown were blue, a somewhat faded blue.

The trunk was bluish-gray, with deep, cracked grooves.

Suddenly.

He spotted another bomb caterpillar higher up on the trunk, and his scalp tingled. This bomb caterpillar seemed about to come down, and Brian Carter hesitated, wanting to run—he really didn't want to get blasted again, especially since the battle armor materials consumed were all powered by his mental strength.

But he was reluctant to leave; he wanted the long hair bombs from the bomb caterpillar.

"These long hair bombs only explode when fired. So if I kill the bomb caterpillar directly, will the hairs not shoot out and explode?"

With this thought, he waited for the bomb caterpillar to crawl down step by step, until it was in the right position.

He quickly drew his dagger and slashed at the bomb caterpillar, pinning it to the trunk before it could react. This method was indeed effective—perhaps because it was stuck to the trunk, the bomb caterpillar couldn't arch its body to shoot its hairs.

So this time, none of its long hairs exploded.

After waiting a dozen seconds, the bomb caterpillar died. Only then did Brian Carter carefully pick up the corpse with tweezers and put it into another test tube. He also pulled off a few long hairs, then tried cutting them with a knife and smashing them with a stone to see how to trigger the long hair bombs to explode.

He found that neither cutting with a knife nor smashing with a stone could make the long hair bombs explode; it seemed they were just ordinary caterpillar hairs.

But when he jabbed the long hairs into the tree trunk, the long hair bombs suddenly exploded.

"So that's it—the tip of these long hair bombs has a trigger mechanism. As long as the tip collides with something, it explodes instantly; otherwise, it won't."

A very interesting triggering principle.

He searched the nearby blue trees and soon found dozens of bomb caterpillars, which made him give up on the idea of climbing trees—he didn't want to encounter a bomb caterpillar and get showered by a wave of long hair bombs. This patch of trees seemed to be occupied by bomb caterpillars, with no other creatures around.

Brian Carter hurried his pace, wanting to get out of the bomb caterpillars' territory.

Suddenly, a small black bird flew over, landed on a branch, and watched Brian Carter, who was wrapped in nano battle armor, for a while. Then, ignoring him, it quickly took off, snatched a bomb caterpillar from the trunk, and—pop pop pop—the sound of explosions rang out at the bird's beak.

But a flash of light shimmered on the bird's beak and head, completely blocking the explosions and leaving it unharmed.

Crunch, crunch.

The black bird swallowed the bomb caterpillar whole.
