“It’s definitely magic. The Shield Crow can cast a magic shield, and the Ram-horn Roc releases… it should be a repulsion ring. No, there’s no fire, so it must be a repulsion aura.” Brian Carter recalled playing the game Legend, where the mage could use a repulsion fire ring to push people and monsters away.
A new world with magic.
Brian Carter thought for a moment and decided to name this world—Fantasy World.
It’s a fantasy planet with two suns: the sun on the left is a bit smaller and can be called Shaoyang, while the one on the right is bigger and can be called Laoyang. In traditional Chinese medicine meridians, there are the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, Hand Shaoyang Triple Burner Meridian, and so on. Shaoyang, Taiyang, and now with Laoyang, that’s settled.
After finishing the video, what Brian Carter had to worry about next was how to handle the samples he brought back.
Over the past six months, he had thought about this countless times. The best way, of course, would be to consult professionals and hand over the analysis and research to experts. But that was simply unrealistic, as the risk of exposing his secret was too high. So after much consideration, he could only research and analyze it himself.
That’s why he spent a lot of money building good relationships with researchers at the institute.
Besides replicating some precision instruments and equipment, it was mainly to make it easier for him to do some research in the lab in the future, though he could only do some basic, small-scale experiments. Things like DNA sequencing and protein localization—he’d heard researchers talk about them, but even after listening, he was still completely confused.
“I can’t do research in the villa. If there’s a virus leak, it’ll be a disaster. I’d better find an uninhabited place in the countryside.” Brian Carter acted as soon as he thought of it.
That afternoon, he rode his motorcycle around and found a house in a rural area on the outskirts. The house was already abandoned, with no water or electricity. But that didn’t matter; Brian Carter just needed a place to shelter from the wind and rain. He gave the house a quick cleaning and started his experiments there.
With the psychic armor providing energy, he directly conjured up a lab bench, then conjured an optical microscope.
Next, he carefully took out a long-haired bomb from the test tube, thoroughly disinfected it with ultraviolet light, and only then dared to expose it to Earth’s air.
“If only I had a sterile lab.”
Unfortunately, he didn’t, so he had to make do. He was already skilled at using the microscope, and soon adjusted the focus to see the structure of the long-haired bomb.
“Hmm, interesting. This structure is a bit like a chain, using a special structure made of cells to bind some kind of substance inside… What is this mass? It should be an explosive substance, right? It’s like two substances are separated by the cellular chain. If they mix, will it explode?”
He recorded his observations of the long-haired bomb’s structure. Most of it was a special chain structure separating two substances—one round, one square. He didn’t know what they were for now.
At the front end of the long-haired bomb—the part that detonates upon impact—Brian Carter saw another special structure: “It’s like a lock, integrated with the cellular chain. Let me try opening this lock and see what chain reaction occurs.” He began the next step.
A high-speed camera was already mounted on the optical microscope, recording the entire observation process.
He materialized a fine long needle and carefully pierced the trigger structure at the tip of the long-haired bomb, wanting to capture the moment of explosion.
However, the whole process ended with just a soft “pop”—no explosion as he had imagined.
Looking at the footage, the long-haired bomb had already crumbled into powder, the cellular chains had disappeared, and the two substances had mixed together, releasing a large amount of heat that turned the glass lens on the objective red-hot. The stage even melted a chunk, the slide clip was burned, and the glass holding the long-haired bomb had melted into liquid.
“How strange.”
Brian Carter examined the now-powdered long-haired bomb and quickly pulled up the recorded video. By playing it in slow motion, he finally noticed something. When he triggered the tip with the long needle, it set off a chain reaction like dominoes—the entire cellular chain structure opened up, releasing the two substances to mix.
After mixing, there was a flash of intense light, followed by a huge amount of heat that melted the glass and iron plate. There was indeed no explosion during the whole process.
“Could it be that I didn’t trigger it correctly?” Brian Carter wondered. He took out another long-haired bomb and forcefully stabbed it onto the glass. With a soft “pop,” this one didn’t explode either. “That’s odd. In the Fantasy World, I could throw them and they’d explode, but on Earth, they don’t?”
He threw five in a row, and each time there was just a soft “pop,” a flash of intense light, and the glass was melted—no sign of an explosion.
“Either the bomb caterpillar lost its activity because it’s been dead too long, or there’s some substance missing in Earth’s air that’s needed for the long-haired bomb to explode.” Brian Carter couldn’t tell which was the reason for now, since the live “bald” bomb caterpillar he had collected had already died from lack of oxygen.
“But.”
