Prologue 【All Because of Time Travel】
Hunter Carter opened his sleepy eyes to see a beautiful and unfamiliar face. Chestnut curls were scattered across the snow-white pillowcase, and her long black eyelashes curled upwards.
Hunter Carter's head was still throbbing painfully. It took him a while to recall the fragmented events of last night. He seemed to have met this woman at a bar; they talked a lot, drank a lot, and what happened next just happened naturally.
Looking up, he saw the wall clock already pointing to ten in the morning. Hunter Carter cursed inwardly—looks like he was going to be late again. Not wanting to disturb the sweet dreams of the person beside him, he gently lifted the blanket and quietly left the room...
Accompanied by a deafening roar of an engine, a black Lamborghini Ghost sports car sped into the parking lot of 'Chunhui Pet Hospital', drifting beautifully into a specially marked yellow parking space right in the center.
The previously tranquil air was instantly stirred up by this sudden visitor. The gust whipped up the skirt of a nearby young woman, startling her into hurriedly holding down the front of her dress, though it did nothing to stop the hem from fluttering like a lily.
The scissor door slowly rose. Hunter Carter grinned at the girl and let out a loud whistle.
"Hunter Carter! You jerk!" The girl's face flushed bright red, whether from anger or embarrassment was unclear.
Hunter Carter burst out laughing and strode out of the car. "Sophie Miller, is that how you talk to your boss? Careful or I'll fire you!"
Sophie Miller raised her fist at him without backing down. "Do you even know what time it is? There’s a long line of patients at the hospital, and you, the attending doctor, are off somewhere having fun. Are you planning to squander Uncle Carter's family business before you’re satisfied?"
Hunter Carter couldn't help but frown. "You sound just like my mom!"
"Then just call me mommy from now on!"
"Mommy, I want milk!" Hunter Carter shamelessly made a move to hug Sophie Miller.
Sophie Miller jumped aside in fright, somehow producing a tube of pepper spray. "Careful or I'll spray you!"
Hunter Carter was only pretending to scare her. He reached out and took the white coat from her, putting it on as he walked toward the clinic. His strides were so long that Sophie Miller had to jog to keep up.
"Why aren’t you wearing your nurse uniform?" Hunter Carter asked as he walked.
"You forgot, I’m off today. If the hospital weren’t in chaos, I wouldn’t have come to help you."
"You’re so devoted to me. Ever thought about being my girlfriend?"
Sophie Miller glared fiercely at Hunter Carter. "Hunter Carter! I already have a boyfriend!"
Hunter Carter deliberately sighed. "What a pity, what a pity, such a pity. We’ve worked together for so long—haven’t you felt anything for me?"
Sophie Miller shook her head decisively. It was undeniable that Hunter Carter was an extremely attractive man in any woman’s eyes: 1.82 meters tall, athletic build, healthy bronze skin, and at only twenty-four, already a PhD in veterinary medicine with considerable prestige both domestically and internationally. It was precisely because he was so outstanding that Sophie Miller felt he was dangerous. She was a traditional woman, hoping to find a partner who would be devoted to her alone. But Hunter Carter was different—his blood was full of restlessness and wildness. Not only did he love racing, but he also never tired of chasing women. Since she couldn’t control him, she chose to keep her distance. This was the strategy Sophie Miller had decided on after careful thought.
Hunter Carter straightened his collar, neatly put on his badge, and walked into the clinic lobby, fully stepping into his role as a doctor.
Setting aside Hunter Carter's personal lifestyle, he was indeed a rare and excellent doctor. He had earned dual master's degrees in Western and Chinese medicine. After his parents died in a plane crash, he switched to veterinary medicine and quickly obtained a doctorate. With his abilities, he should have joined a national research institute or taught at a university. But he seemed uninterested in that environment, insisting on staying to run the pet clinic his father left behind.
Just as he entered the clinic lobby, a glamorous married woman approached. "Dr. Carter, you’re finally here. I’ve been waiting for you for two whole hours."
Hunter Carter nodded impatiently. "Mrs. Brooks, if you have something to discuss, let’s talk in my office!"
"But..."
Hunter Carter strode toward the back door of the office. Sophie Miller hurriedly stopped Mrs. Brooks. "Mrs. Brooks, come with me, I’ll arrange things for you."
Hunter Carter entered the office, picked up the coffee already prepared on the desk, took a sip, and stretched his arms. The door opened, and Sophie Miller and the on-duty nurse Lily Clark walked in together.
Seeing the thick stack of medical records in their hands, Hunter Carter smiled. "So many? Looks like business is good today."
