Chapter 16

Upon seeing that sheepskin scroll, Hunter Carter immediately understood that his belongings must have been taken by Macy May. This sheepskin scroll was something the old white ape had given him to report back to the emperor of the Lande Empire. However, judging by Macy May's rather unfriendly expression, he figured it was best to be cautious.

Hunter Carter deliberately put on a confused look. “What’s this?”

Macy May saw through Hunter Carter’s act and gritted her teeth. “You’d better come clean with me. Are you a spy sent by the Lande Empire?”

Hunter Carter’s heart sank. From Macy May’s question, he could deduce that he wasn’t in the Lande Empire, and most likely was on the side hostile to it. This was big trouble—if they really took him for a spy, he’d end up a prisoner, or worse, lose his head.

Macy May made a gesture, and Grace Lane took out Hunter Carter’s bag, dumping its contents in front of him.

Hunter Carter saw that all the items he’d brought were there, and felt greatly relieved. Glancing at the G—Sauer P229 pistol not far away, a glimmer of hope rose in his heart. As long as he could get his hands on the pistol, he might be able to turn the situation around.

Macy May noticed Hunter Carter’s eyes darting around, frequently glancing at that strange iron object, and suspicion grew in her heart. She got up, walked over to the pistol, and grabbed it. However, she didn’t know how to hold a gun, and the muzzle was pointed at herself.

Hunter Carter grew anxious inside. The way she was holding the gun was practically suicide. Such a beautiful lady dying before his eyes—he couldn’t help but feel a bit reluctant.

“What is this thing?” Macy May asked curiously.

Hunter Carter knew this was a great chance to get the pistol back, so he quickly improvised, “It’s a piece of fitness equipment I use!”

“Fitness equipment?” Macy May mulled over this unfamiliar term, unable to grasp its true meaning for quite a while.

“How about I demonstrate for you?” Hunter Carter said slyly.

Macy May was extremely cautious. She put the pistol away. “Just show me with your hands!”

Hunter Carter was quite disappointed, but the opportunity wasn’t completely lost. He used his fingers to mimic the shape of a pistol, stretching and retracting his arm. “Fitness is just like this—it feels great…”

A female warrior beside Grace Lane suddenly cried out, then realized her slip and hurriedly covered her mouth, her pretty face flushing bright red.

Hunter Carter immediately realized that the gesture he’d made was rather suggestive, and it must have reminded the beautiful warrior of something else. A lecherous smile appeared on his face. Women’s imaginations really were vivid—clearly it was a weapon, yet they could think of something else.

Macy May saw Hunter Carter’s expression, then looked at the pistol, and instantly understood. She shouted angrily, “Shameless! How dare you mess with me!” Both embarrassed and angry, she raised the pistol and pressed it to Hunter Carter’s forehead.

Hunter Carter broke out in a cold sweat, crying out inside, “Auntie, please don’t pull the trigger—I’m not done living yet…”

Macy May knocked Hunter Carter’s forehead twice with the muzzle, then lowered the gun. “Since you don’t want to tell the truth, I won’t force you. Grace Lane! He’s strong and healthy—locking him in the lower hold is a waste. Starting tomorrow, have him clean the deck!”

After Hunter Carter was taken away, Grace Lane came to Macy May’s side and whispered, “Mistress, didn’t you say he was a Sacred Land native? If we keep him on the ship, I’m afraid it’ll bring a lot of trouble.”

Macy May sneered, “The only reason I said he was a Sacred Land native was to fool that cunning scoundrel Ma Xingkong. His appearance is very similar to a Sacred Land native, but his skin is nowhere near as fair—it’s a shade of blue I’ve never seen before. And his accent is heavily northern.”

“Maybe he’s always lived outside the Sacred Land?”

Macy May shook her head. “Most likely he’s a half-blood between a Sacred Land native and another race. But judging from this sheepskin scroll, this man must have close ties to the Lande Empire. I’ll get to the bottom of it. If it turns out he really is a spy sent by the Lande Empire, I’ll kill him without hesitation!”

A chill ran through Grace Lane’s heart, and a look of reluctance appeared in her eyes.

Macy May handed her the pistol. “Grace Lane, throw this into the sea.”

Grace Lane nodded, took the pistol, and was about to leave, but Macy May changed her mind. “Actually, keep it for now. That bastard is too cunning—maybe this thing isn’t as simple as it looks.”

Although Hunter Carter had to do heavy labor every day, compared to the imprisoned Bit people, he was undoubtedly lucky. At least he could breathe fresh air, and while working, he could sneak glances at the beautiful female warriors on the ship.

The midday sun was scorching, not a cloud in the sky. The blazing sun beat straight down on the deck, and even the sea breeze felt weak and powerless. Hunter Carter, wearing shorts, knelt on the deck, carefully scrubbing the dust from the cracks, cursing Macy May in his heart: “Damn bitch, if I ever get the chance, I’ll strip you naked…”
