Chapter 2

Sophie Miller helped Hunter Carter tidy up the examination table. “Can we start now?”

Hunter Carter nodded.

“Number one!” Lily Clark went out and called twice, but no one answered, so she had to call the pet owner's name directly: “Lin Jiaxin!”

“Just a moment, my dog is pooping!”

Lily Clark looked helplessly into the consulting room.

Hunter Carter tossed the medical record to Sophie Miller. “I never wait for patients. Tell her to come back tomorrow!”

Sophie Miller knew Hunter Carter's habits and smiled as she handed out the medical record.

Number two was Mrs. Liu, who had just stopped Hunter Carter earlier. She was holding a Pomeranian and gazing at Hunter Carter with deep affection.

Sophie Miller and Lily Clark both struggled to hold back their laughter. This Mrs. Liu was a bit of a fangirl, coming here every few days. Her Pomeranian was never really sick; she just used it as an excuse to get close to Hunter Carter.

“What’s wrong?”

“She always sleeps poorly…” Mrs. Liu replied in a coy voice.

“Does she bark a lot at night?”

Mrs. Liu seemed to forget her role, blushing as she answered, “She barks a few times occasionally, but not very loudly.”

Hunter Carter felt uncomfortable under Mrs. Liu’s lovesick gaze and quickly wrote two prescriptions. “Go with the nurse to get your medicine!”

“Dr. Tang, I can’t sleep well either…”

Hunter Carter cursed under his breath and waved the prescription. “I wrote two doses, one for you and one for your dog. They’ll definitely work for both of you.” What he prescribed was just ordinary sleeping pills. For women like this, who were always self-absorbed and used him as a fantasy object, Hunter Carter really didn’t have many solutions.

“Mrs. Liu, please!” Sophie Miller came over to rescue Hunter Carter. If she didn’t usher her out, Mrs. Liu would definitely linger even longer.

Mrs. Liu reluctantly stood up. “Dr. Tang, I also have a Chow Chow at home…”

“Next!”

In just one hour, Hunter Carter finished dealing with all the accumulated medical records. He let out a long sigh of relief, leaned back in his chair, and thought about the moment when Sophie Miller's long dress fluttered earlier, a suggestive smile appearing on his face.

It was already 11:30 a.m. According to Hunter Carter's routine, it was time for him to leave. Sophie Miller and Lily Clark came over to tidy up the room. Hunter Carter smiled and said, “I’ll count this as overtime for you today. I’ll give you a bonus at the end of the month.”

“Thank you!” Sophie Miller organized the medical records.

Taking advantage of the moment when Lily Clark went out to take out the trash, Hunter Carter grabbed Sophie Miller's arm. “How about having lunch together?”

Sophie Miller shook her head and pulled her hand away from Hunter Carter's grasp. “I have a date with my boyfriend!”

“That guy with the glasses! I really don’t get it—how is he better than me?” Hunter Carter protested, a bit disgruntled.

Sophie Miller shot him a glare. “Feng Kai is more upright and more honest than you!”

“So you’re saying I’m fake?” Hunter Carter asked with a grin.

Sophie Miller nodded.

Hunter Carter deliberately sighed. “I’m really not as honest as you say. Oh, by the way, I forgot to tell you—your pink underwear looks great!”

Sophie Miller's pretty face turned bright red. That damn guy had clearly seen the color of her underwear just now.

“If you bother me again, I’ll resign!” Sophie Miller looked very serious.

Hunter Carter knew he couldn’t go too far with his jokes toward Sophie Miller, so he immediately put on a playful smile. “Just kidding, why so serious? Fine, pretend I never said it!”

Suddenly, a pleasant roaring sound came from outside. Hunter Carter was especially sensitive to engine noises and could tell right away that it was an SLR McLaren supercar. Looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the consulting room, he saw a red SLR McLaren parked side by side with his own black Lamborghini.

“Another patient has arrived!” Sophie Miller whispered.

“What’s that got to do with me?” Hunter Carter glanced nonchalantly at the clock on the wall.

“Looks like a very distinguished guest,” Sophie Miller reminded him. From the appearance of the sports car, she could already tell the person must be quite wealthy.

Hunter Carter laughed. “I’ve always been a man of principle!”

Hunter Carter's principles often changed for beautiful women, and this time was no exception. When Emily Foster gracefully walked into the consulting room, Hunter Carter immediately forgot what he had just said. He hadn’t expected to meet her again just two hours later.

Sophie Miller whispered to Hunter Carter, “I’ll go tell her to come back tomorrow…”

“For a doctor, I’m ready to serve patients twenty-four hours a day!” Hunter Carter's attitude did a complete 180.

“But my shift is already over!” Sophie Miller hated seeing Hunter Carter with that dazed look the most. She turned and walked out of the consulting room, leaving Hunter Carter alone to diagnose.

Emily Foster sat elegantly across from Hunter Carter, lit a cigarette, and gazed at him with sea-blue eyes. Such eye color shouldn’t appear on an East Asian face. Hunter Carter immediately realized she must be wearing colored contact lenses.

Even just sitting there.

Emily Foster stroked her beloved dog, Gale, with her left hand. “Dr. Tang, it seems you’ve got the wrong patient!” There was a hint of reproach in her words.
