Chapter 12

Brian Carter gazed deeply at his old rival, who had died with his eyes open. He sighed, gently closed his eyes, then stood up and said, “Everyone get ready, check your weapons, load your ammo, and also have Michael Brooks prepare. Give him the laptop and those hacker tools—we’re about to storm this secret base…”

“As Black Stars!”

“To die without regret!”

Everyone except Michael Brooks shouted loudly, then followed behind Brian Carter, charging straight toward the pitch-black entrance of the base!

Chapter Six: Codename: Noah! (Part One)

Brian Carter knew in his heart that compared to the four major “Dragon” special forces units, the Black Star Special Forces were actually a bit weaker. The key reason was their small numbers—even at their peak, there were only a little over twenty members. Their weapons and equipment also couldn’t compare to the other four teams. Overall, they suffered politically, but in terms of strength, the Black Star Special Forces weren’t much different from the four “Dragon” teams.

Yet, with the strength of the Longxing Squad, they had been completely wiped out inside this base. One could imagine how strong the defenses here must be. Of course, it might also have been because the Longxing Squad was ambushed, or because the base’s password was different from what had been set beforehand.

But no matter what, Brian Carter was now more alert than ever. He wasn’t fighting alone—he had over a dozen comrades whose lives were at stake, and possibly the survival of tens of thousands of people in the future. He couldn’t afford to be careless!

The group charged straight through the base’s main entrance, with the vanguard squad led by Brian Carter. The rest formed an assault formation based on the range of their firepower.

The entire base was pitch black, but as soon as they stepped inside, the corridor lit up immediately. The lighting here responded to sound and other signals. Inside the base, the first thing they saw was a large hall, followed by several corridors and staircases. At first glance, it looked much like the ground floor of an ordinary building—nothing unusual at all.

But in this hall, there were seven or eight corpses. Some were shattered, some decapitated—their deaths were extremely gruesome. Seeing this, everyone couldn’t help but frown. Michael Brooks, overwhelmed by the stench of blood, suddenly vomited, nearly collapsing to the ground.

Beside him, the tall, dark-skinned man named Black Iron grabbed him and said, “Disgusting. Looks like you lack training. Next time, I’ll throw you into a pile of corpses for a few days and nights. You’ll have to eat with maggots crawling around—then you won’t throw up.”

As he spoke, Michael Brooks retched again, but when the big man glared at him, he forced it back down, though his face turned pale and green.

Up ahead, Brian Carter said without turning his head, “Black Iron, he’s just an ordinary person. Don’t say that anymore… Let’s go, we’re entering the base.”

As Brian Carter spoke, he followed the footprints and bloodstains on the ground. He walked up to one of the large pillars in the hall, then circled around the shiny metal column a few times, carefully inspecting it.

Another team member nearby looked very handsome, with a delicate, almost effeminate air, but half of one ear was missing, ruining his looks. This man walked up to the pillar, took a white spray from his bag, and sprayed it onto the smooth metal surface.

A dozen seconds later, many visible fingerprints appeared on the pillar. Brian Carter and the handsome man exchanged a glance, then carefully examined the fingerprints. Soon, Brian Carter began pressing on the pillar. After a few crisp clicks, the entire pillar suddenly opened up—inside was an elevator.

Brian Carter looked back at the others and said, “I’ll take four people down first. If this elevator doesn’t come back up in five minutes, or if it comes up empty, that means…” At this point, Brian Carter didn’t know how to continue.

Because this was already their last hope—possibly the last hope for humanity left on Earth. Although it was unlikely to hold all the survivors, at least it was the only way out. So even if there was a sea of fire and blades below, there was no other choice—they had to charge down no matter what!

Brian Carter said no more, stepping into the elevator first, followed by four others, including Black Iron with Michael Brooks.

But Brian Carter shook his head and said, “Michael Brooks stays up here. Black Iron, you’re responsible for protecting him. That’s final.”

Black Iron was stunned and protested, “But, Captain, isn’t this kid a computer expert? Maybe we’ll need him down there…”

Brian Carter cut him off directly, “Black Iron, I don’t want to explain! That’s an order!”

Black Iron immediately snapped to attention, heels clicking together. “Yes, sir! Obeying orders!” With that, he led Michael Brooks out of the elevator.
