George Miller was stunned for a moment. He asked urgently, “Antigravity? The one from science fiction novels and movies?”
“Yes, that’s the one.” Brian Carter nodded and said, “It rises directly by levitation. You can look at the top layer of the cave. Everywhere else is natural rock, so it seems this plaza is part of a naturally formed giant underground cavern. But right above the spaceship, at the very top, there’s a metallic structure. I think it can be opened, but even so, how could the spaceship possibly ascend vertically? With fire? Don’t be ridiculous. For such a massive spaceship, what kind of flame would it need to produce to climb straight up? Solar fire?”
“So the only possibility is an antigravity structure.” Brian Carter said seriously.
George Miller quickly looked up at the top of the cave, and sure enough, right above the spaceship was the only part of the cave ceiling made of metal. In other words, for the spaceship to leave this cave and ascend, this really did seem like the only possibility.
Their conversation ended there. As the others had already boarded the jeeps, they all drove toward the spaceship. After all, that was their destination, and their only hope of escaping Earth. Entering the spaceship and making sure everything was in order was the most crucial thing.
The distance of over ten kilometers was covered in no time, and they didn’t encounter any danger along the way. Soon, they arrived at the edge of the spaceship, and could even touch it with their hands. Only then did everyone truly realize how enormous the spaceship was—so huge it was beyond imagination. Standing beneath it, they felt even smaller than ants, like ants next to an elephant—no, a mammoth—no, a brontosaurus.
At this point, everyone hesitated, because they didn’t know if there were any traps or defense mechanisms inside the spaceship. The recent waves of mechanical beings had already exhausted them, and if another attack happened now, it could only mean total annihilation—there was no other outcome.
But the always cautious Brian Carter didn’t seem nervous at all. He walked straight to a huge open hatch and entered the spaceship. The others exchanged glances, and except for Michael Brooks, everyone else followed him inside.
Michael Brooks was left dumbfounded. He shouted, “Hey, guys, I can’t stop those robots from here, you know! Aren’t you all afraid? Hey… wait for me!” He yelled a few more times, and seeing the others’ backs about to disappear, he couldn’t care anymore and ran after them into the spaceship.
The interior of the spaceship was unimaginably vast, with corridors everywhere, rooms with hatches, many hall-like chambers, and all kinds of different facilities. Pretty Boy Blake even cheered as he found several different medical rooms, operating rooms, and various equipment. Besides that, there were all sorts of rooms of different sizes, and even many entertainment rooms.
This was a fully completed spaceship, with all facilities intact, and its interior was so huge that it could easily hold not just ten thousand people, but maybe even a hundred thousand!
The more they explored the spaceship, the more amazed everyone looked. Eventually, some even burst out laughing with joy. But none of them noticed that Brian Carter’s face was growing darker and darker. He was at the front, so no one saw.
(Damn, this spaceship is too perfect—enough capacity, enough rooms, enough auxiliary facilities. I even saw some equipment and rooms that can be reused. With a spaceship like this, even without Earth, it could survive in space for years, maybe decades. But if it’s so perfect… why did the higher-ups abandon it? Is there some fatal flaw, or a terrifying hidden danger?)
The more Brian Carter thought about it, the more anxious he felt. And the spaceship was just too big. Even though there were train-like vehicles inside, who knew where the main control room or the captain’s cabin was?
After walking for more than two hours, with Michael Brooks sighing and complaining, Brian Carter suddenly grabbed Michael Brooks at the back of the group. He pointed to a data terminal platform ahead and said, “Michael Brooks, I want you to hack into this spaceship. Don’t look for anything else—just find the map of the ship. We have to locate the main control room first.”
Michael Brooks was stunned, about to pull a long face and say something, but when he saw Brian Carter’s stern and grim expression, he seemed to realize something was wrong, so he could only nod and agree. Then he started hacking into the data terminal with his tools.
Very quickly, there was no alarm this time, and after Brian Carter provided the new password decryption method, Michael Brooks soon hacked into the spaceship’s systems. But just then, a strange set of data suddenly flashed across the laptop screen, and then the whole screen turned into a video. Standing in front of the camera was an elderly Western man.
