Chapter 14

Michael Brooks's tears immediately streamed down his face. He nodded vigorously, but still said, "I... is there any medicine? Give me one, I'll be able to focus even more."

Brian Carter was taken aback for a moment, but he didn't show any look of disdain. Instead, he nodded to the pale-faced guy beside him. The pale-faced guy directly took out some morphine from his bag, then said to Michael Brooks, "I'll give you a microdose of morphine. It won't make you hallucinate, and it will improve your concentration for a short time. But you need to be careful—the effect won't last long, understand?"

Michael Brooks hurriedly nodded, obediently stretched out his arm, and the pale-faced guy injected a small amount of morphine into it.

Only then did Brian Carter lead Michael Brooks and the rest of the team to the electronics station. Everyone began their own preparations: first piling up the corpses in front of them as makeshift battlefield cover, then checking their weapons, splitting into squads, and covering their respective fire defense directions.

Once everything was ready, Brian Carter nodded at Michael Brooks. By now, Michael Brooks had already plugged the signal sniffer into the electronics station. When he saw Brian Carter nod, he took a deep breath, placed one hand on the laptop, and with a soft click, the computer screen lit up. At the same time, a piercing noise erupted throughout the underground tunnel, and from all four walls, round spheres began to emerge.

"Attack! As Blackstar!"

"To die in victory is without regret!"

In an instant, a hail of gunfire erupted!

Chapter Six: Codename: Noah! (Part 2)

From all four walls, at least a hundred or two small spheres emerged. Each was about the size of one and a half fists, with two electronic eyes at the very front, and metal flaps on either side of the eyes resembling wings. As soon as these spheres appeared, they started calling out "Hello, hello!"—sounding just like foreigners greeting each other.

But this was the greeting of death!

The small spheres didn't move fast, and their defenses weren't high. As soon as they appeared, the dozen or so people unleashed a barrage of gunfire, instantly taking out more than half. But what followed was a nightmare for everyone present!

The firing speed of these small spheres was terrifying! From the small hole beneath their electronic eyes—something like a mouth—there was a flash of fire, and a burst of bullets struck the three people at the very front. No one knew what kind of bullets they were firing, but the three tried to raise their weapons for a final attack, only for the bullets inside their bodies to tear them apart, as if the bullets were bouncing around inside them. Except for one whose body remained mostly intact, the other two were instantly blown to pieces.

"Damn! They're high-magnetic rounds!"

Brian Carter looked at the three dead teammates, his heart aching, but there was no time for grief. He immediately pulled a grenade from his belt and threw it, shouting, "Use the corpses as cover! Even body parts will do! These are high-magnetic rounds—if they hit you, you're dead! Everyone, be careful!"

The others had also seen the gruesome deaths of the three. Now, in the heat of battle, they couldn't care about anything else. One by one, they crawled to the ground, using corpses and body parts as cover to shield themselves from the deadly high-magnetic rounds.

High-magnetic rounds are a new type of bullet that appeared in recent years, somewhat similar in effect to early dum-dum rounds, but far more powerful. They are a byproduct of research into Gauss weaponry. These bullets have extremely high initial velocity and unparalleled penetration, but once they enter a human body or target, the electromagnetic properties of the shell rapidly convert the penetration speed into tumbling force—in other words, destructive power!

If you're hit by one of these bullets, even if it's fired from a handgun, the effect is like being shot by an anti-materiel sniper rifle: graze your foot, your foot's gone; graze your hand, your hand's gone; hit your stomach, and there's a huge hole—there's nothing left to piece together.

But these bullets also have a limitation: they only cause extreme destruction to the first thing they hit. In other words, if you use a corpse as cover, unless the corpse is completely blown to pieces, the bullet basically can't harm the second person behind it.

That's exactly what Brian Carter and his teammates were doing. Besides the three bodies of their own comrades, they also used the corpses from the Longxing squad as cover. Under a hail of bullets, these corpses absorbed most of the high-magnetic rounds, quickly turning into chunks of flesh. But in just that brief moment, the grenade Brian Carter had thrown exploded, and at the same time, the other members opened fire—especially the fire support from the group led by Black Iron. These guys were all big and burly, wielding portable heavy machine guns, and in the two or three seconds after the explosion, they unleashed at least a thousand rounds. Instantly, all the "hello" sounds in front of them vanished.

Only then did everyone breathe a huge sigh of relief. Henry Clark let out a wail, throwing himself onto the three bodies that had been reduced to chunks of flesh, tears streaming down his face as he called out the names of the three.
