He had no idea how long he would be stuck in the primeval forest. If he couldn’t get out for years, these three sets of clothes would probably wear out.
“Awwooo!”
A sudden wolf howl shattered the tranquility of the jungle.
The wolf was enormous, its size comparable to a fine steed, and its fur was a dazzling silver.
The silver giant wolf’s eyes glowed crimson, and its hind leg was badly injured, causing it to limp as it ran.
Even so, its speed was astonishingly fast, and in just a few leaps, it pounced to the edge of the spring.
“Roar!”
The evolved Big Jack rarely barked like a dog anymore, instead preferring to let out those wild, beastly roars.
It growled low, brimming with fighting spirit as it faced off against the silver giant wolf.
As expected, this giant wolf was likely the culprit that devoured David Bennett. James Carter was suddenly filled with a strong urge to avenge his human companion, a surge of killing intent rising in his heart as he gripped the eighteen-section cleaver and charged forward.
Chapter 5: Berserk Blade Technique
Strangely enough, the giant wolf’s focus was on Big Jack, as if it never considered James Carter a threat from start to finish.
James Carter was happy to take advantage of this. While the two beasts clashed head-on, he seized an opportunity and slashed the giant wolf’s back at the waist.
Based on what he’d learned from reading novels, wolves were said to have copper heads, iron tails, and tofu waists—so this strike should be especially effective.
Clang!
A crisp sound rang out, as if he’d struck an iron plate. James Carter’s tiger’s mouth throbbed with pain, and the cleaver nearly flew from his grip.
The sturdy eighteen-section cleaver now had a notch in it.
But on the giant wolf’s back, there was only a faint trace of blood—clearly just a superficial wound.
James Carter felt like a thousand alpacas were stampeding through his mind. The tricks from novels were completely useless!
“Awooo!”
The wounded giant wolf flew into a rage and turned to pounce at James Carter.
At that moment, James Carter activated his hidden talent.
Few people knew that, as a swingman, William Carter’s best position was actually point guard, also known as the floor general. An excellent point guard often possesses outstanding court vision, able to observe everything and make the right decisions at critical moments, turning the tide and leading the team to victory.
In a split second, James Carter faked a move to dodge, then thrust the eighteen-section cleaver fiercely into the giant wolf’s injured hind leg.
“Awooo... owoo!”
The giant wolf let out a heart-wrenching scream, its body suddenly freezing, convulsing and trembling uncontrollably.
Big Jack seized the chance, biting down on the giant wolf’s neck and forcefully pinning the silver wolf to the ground.
James Carter didn’t stay idle either. Using all his strength, he stabbed the cleaver into the giant wolf’s soft belly.
He gave it a vicious twist, then yanked the blade out and turned to run.
As it turned out, his split-second reaction was incredibly wise.
“Roar!”
The giant wolf’s howl turned into a bloodthirsty, wild roar. A surge of mysterious power erupted from its body, flinging Big Jack—who was biting its neck—far away.
The enraged giant wolf glared at James Carter, who had run ten meters away, and chased after him with reckless abandon.
Blood gushed from its abdomen, and after running just seven or eight meters, its intestines spilled out, a gruesome sight.
Big Jack pounced again, biting onto a length of intestine dragging on the ground and pulling back with all its might.
In the blink of an eye, five meters of wolf intestine had been dragged out, and with a snap, it broke off.
The giant wolf howled in agony, rolling on the ground in pain.
Nearby, sand and stones flew as the giant wolf’s thrashing carved a huge pit by the spring, the seeping water stained a glaring red.
Even in its death throes, the giant wolf was terrifyingly dangerous—Big Jack was sent flying by a swipe of its paw.
“Big Jack, stay back!”
James Carter had been watching from a distance the whole time and now called out to stop Big Jack from attacking the giant wolf again.
Hearing its master’s command, Big Jack crouched a few meters away, ready to pounce at any moment.
The giant wolf howled in agony for over half an hour, its cries gradually weakening as the blood from its belly slowly drained away.
Only then did James Carter run over and deliver a few more vicious stabs.
The moment the giant wolf died, an unbelievable scene unfolded.
A translucent object floated out from the wolf’s head, eerily suspended in midair.
The translucent thing looked like a thin booklet, with a strange war blade engraved on the cover.
James Carter was struck by a sudden inspiration and reached out to grab it. The translucent little book immediately burrowed into his palm.
At once, he mysteriously gained an inner vision ability and discovered the little book floating in his sea of consciousness. The book radiated an endless killing intent, identical to the berserk aura of the silver giant wolf. When James Carter touched the book with his mind, his soul trembled.
“Evolutionary combat skill acquired. Fuse it?”
“Yes!”
The moment James Carter made his decision, the little book in his sea of consciousness dissolved, turning into countless points of light that merged into his body.
“Combat skill ‘Berserk Blade Technique’ successfully fused!”
“Berserk Blade Technique: E-rank combat skill, can evolve. Current evolution energy 0/100.”
James Carter entered a mysterious state, swinging the eighteen-section cleaver and naturally performing a set of blade techniques.
The blade technique was fierce and domineering, each move exquisitely executed, unleashing a battle aura that seemed to engulf the world.
