Chapter 19

Realizing James Carter's strength, the bald man went all out, wielding a famous BUCK Nighthawk straight-edged knife. This type of short blade is a favorite among many military enthusiasts; the blade is coated with a military-grade BT layer, making it sturdy and wear-resistant, and the blade and handle are integrated as one, making it very practical.

The Black man attacked from another direction, his weapon a serrated short knife that could tear out a chunk of flesh when stabbed into someone. Perhaps thanks to the agility boost from his combat boots, this guy was incredibly fast, completely outpacing his fellow Black man, Bolt.

It was clear the two had fought side by side before, attacking from left and right in perfect coordination.

However, it was all utterly useless.

Blades flashed, and James Carter struck.

The Black man’s right arm, the one holding the serrated knife, was chopped off in the blink of an eye, just like the flamboyant woman’s.

Relying on his combat leather armor for protection, the bald man knew best the defensive power of his intermediate primitive leather armor, so he went for a desperate, head-on fighting style. Unfortunately, James Carter had no intention of striking his armor at all—one slash took off the bald man’s ear.

“Ah!”

“Ah!”

Both men fell to the ground, screaming in agony—one clutching his arm, the other his ear, their palms full of blood.

In the blink of an eye, three people were injured. All four of the would-be robbers were stunned. In their eyes, James Carter looked like a total rookie, but the reality was far beyond their expectations—the knife skills of that reckless youth were simply unfathomable.

James Carter was also shocked—he was surprised at how weak his opponents were.

Through this exchange, he realized that none of the three knew any combat techniques; they only had some basic self-defense moves you’d learn at a gym, much like when he first arrived in the evolution world and hacked at all sorts of plants with a knife. Against his D-level berserker blade technique, such opponents were simply no match at all.

“Combat technique, you know combat technique?”

The bald man screamed in terror, his pupils contracting uncontrollably.

Not everyone who enters the evolution world can obtain a combat technique. He had been in the evolution world for a whole year and had never gotten one. Moreover, once you learn a combat technique, it disappears; even if you torture or rob someone, at most you can get their combat gear, but you can never get their combat technique.

James Carter ignored the shouting bald man and looked at a petite figure dashing away.

That translator girl was even faster than the Black man. She seemed to have a natural instinct for danger—when the flamboyant woman’s hand was chopped off, her reaction wasn’t to attack James Carter, but to turn and run.

Since the girl hadn’t attacked, James Carter had no interest in chasing her down, and instead turned his gaze to the flamboyant woman.

He witnessed an unbelievable sight: the woman picked up her severed right arm, and the entire arm miraculously healed, the bleeding stopped, as if her arm had never been cut off.

Taking advantage of the chaos, the flamboyant woman ran more than ten meters away, her eyes filled with the joy of surviving a disaster.

“Jack, go after her for me!”

At James Carter’s command, Jack turned into a black blur and quickly pounced on the woman, pinning her to the ground.

Seeing the woman, now covered in wounds from the black dog, the bald man and the Black man were terrified. They had always thought it was just an ordinary black dog. They’d seen people bring pets into the evolution world several times, but those pets never had much combat power. Yet this big black dog had easily overpowered the flamboyant woman, whose combat power was as high as 54!

Clutching his bleeding ear, the bald man struggled to his feet and walked toward James Carter.

Was this guy going to fight to the death? Did he have a grenade or something on him?

James Carter became alert and shouted sternly, “Stop!”

The bald man stopped three meters away, then suddenly dropped to his knees and cried, “Dad, your son was wrong!”

James Carter almost slipped—this was nothing like the desperate struggle he’d expected.

Forcing himself to stay calm, he said, “Since you know you were wrong, what are you going to do about it?”

The bald man hesitated, a flash of light passing over him, and suddenly he was left in just his underwear. He had removed the soul binding from his leather armor and respectfully said, “This is the only combat gear I have. Please, spare my life!”

It was clear that, between his life and his gear, he had made a choice.

James Carter took the leather armor and stored it inside himself, saying indifferently, “No other combat gear?”

“No, I swear!” the bald man replied, trembling.

James Carter smiled. “I’m quite interested in your friend’s boots, you know what I mean.”

That smile looked like the devil’s in the bald man’s eyes.

He went over and spoke with the Black man for a moment, mixing in some English.

In the end, the Black man gritted his teeth and reluctantly handed over the boots.

With the unexpected gain of two pieces of combat gear, James Carter felt complicated.

The world is treacherous, and people’s hearts are unpredictable.

These people before him had taught him a vivid lesson.

James Carter suddenly understood why the aloof young man had told him to get lost the moment they met.
