One of them was a fierce-looking, bald, burly man dressed in a set of black leather armor.
The other was, surprisingly, a black guy—it was hard to tell whether he was African or European.
James Carter's delight at meeting his own kind lasted only a second before turning into alarm.
No matter how you looked at these two, they clearly meant no good.
The bald man glanced at James Carter's tracksuit and basketball shoes, his eyes full of contempt. In his eyes, this young man was a complete weakling, so he became even more aggressive: “Kid, hand over that necklace around your neck, and the knife in your hand too!”
James Carter was shocked. So, fellow humans weren’t here to help each other, but to rob on the road?
He recalled a line from a book: The hardest thing to fathom in this world is the human heart.
Seeing James Carter's surprised expression, the bald man thought he’d scared him stiff, and swaggered even more: “Unbind your soul from it right now, don’t make me do it the hard way! You look like a rookie, don’t even think about dying to destroy your gear. If it falls into my hands, I’ll gouge out your eyes, cut out your tongue, sever your tendons in your hands and feet… If you don’t want to suffer, just hand it over!”
James Carter looked confused and weakly said, “Aniaseyo, what are you saying, simida?”
“Korean?” The bald man frowned, then turned and shouted into the distance, “Little Grace, Little Lily, come over here!”
From behind a towering tree, a glamorous woman in her thirties and a skinny girl of about seventeen or eighteen emerged.
The bald man said to the girl, “Little Lily, he’s Korean, translate for me and tell him to hand over his stuff right now.”
The girl blinked her big eyes at James Carter, her voice crisp: “Aniaseyo, changbalan asayaseyo… ouyi xiba… ca tama… simida.”
What does it mean to fail at pretending?
Just look at William Carter—he barely understood a word of the girl’s Korean.
He hadn’t managed to fool them with Korean; instead, he’d been fooled by their Korean.
James Carter looked up at the sky in exasperation. They even brought a translator to rob people—did they have to be this badass?
“Big baldy, you’re getting dumber as you get older. How could a Korean be wearing Li-Ning sportswear?” The glamorous woman rolled her eyes at the bald man, then looked James Carter up and down with interest, her voice carrying a hint of flirtation: “Little brother, you’re pretty smart. Tell big sis, what’s your name, and how long have you been in the Evolution World?”
The two sets of sportswear left by Bi Dejin were both Li-Ning brand, which gave everything away.
Chapter 13: Counter-Robbery
A preliminary assessment: the black leather armor on the bald man was a type of battle gear.
The boots on the black man’s feet also seemed to be battle gear.
The glamorous woman wore a tight outfit accentuating her curves, but didn’t look like she had much combat power.
And the translator girl called Little Lily was dressed in ordinary clothes, so skinny she looked like a gust of wind could blow her over.
Even so, the two women were the ones James Carter felt most threatened by. After all, battle gear could be stored in the mind-sea and summoned at any time—who knew how many pieces those two women had hidden?
James Carter wasn’t sure how strong the four of them were, so he quietly gripped the Savage Blade and said with a smile, “My name is Andrew Logan, and I’ve been here less than three months.”
“So you’re a newbie. Do you think we’re being too mean? Actually, we’re just desperate. Those foreigners don’t treat us like people. You probably don’t know, but in this forest, there’s a team of several hundred people—many of them are mercenaries who’ve killed before. If they catch you, you’ll end up a slave. If a woman falls into their hands, I don’t need to tell you what happens—you can guess.”
The glamorous woman revealed some information, her tone tinged with a pitiful sadness, and pointed at the black man: “This is Mr. Arthur, he escaped from their slave camp.”
Seeing James Carter moved by this, the glamorous woman continued, “We’re all from China, so I won’t make things hard for you. If you’re interested, you can team up with us. I’ve been here for over a year and can tell you a lot of interesting things.”
James Carter looked as if he was tempted, his gaze lingering on the woman’s ample chest.
“I’ll tell you a secret—I don’t have a boyfriend yet. Interested in dating big sis?”
The glamorous woman leaned in, her eyes seductive enough to make any hot-blooded young man dizzy.
When they were less than half a meter apart, a dagger suddenly appeared in the woman’s pale hand and she stabbed fiercely at James Carter’s abdomen.
James Carter was already on guard. He jumped back and swung his blade.
“Ah!”
A shrill scream rang out—the glamorous woman’s right arm, the one holding the dagger, was neatly severed.
Her three companions’ faces changed dramatically, murderous intent flaring.
“All together! Cut off his hands and feet, but leave him alive!”
The bald man roared and charged first.
He was utterly shocked. That glamorous woman was quite the beauty, and her tricks had never failed with men before. The bald man had seen with his own eyes three men fall for her, including one with a combat power of 65. But today, her charms had no effect on James Carter, and she’d ended up in trouble herself.
