Chapter 2

The Laura Smith in front of him was clearly from the first game of the new trilogy.

In this installment, Laura Smith had only recently graduated from college and was a rookie participating in her first real archaeological expedition.

During what seemed like an ordinary archaeological activity, she was shipwrecked and stranded on an island, encountering a series of bizarre events. After enduring various hardships, Laura Smith helped her companions escape successfully and gradually grew stronger.

The one in front of David Clark should be Laura Smith from the early part of the story.

Standing up, David Clark watched as Laura Smith slowly walked into the village, eyeing him with the same look of confusion. He prepared to try and start a conversation—after so many years, he wasn't sure how much English he could still remember.

While he was struggling to recall a few phrases in English, Laura Smith on the other side had already noticed him and stopped a few meters away from David Clark.

Now the two of them weren't far apart, and with the bright daylight, this version of David Clark didn't have any issues like nearsightedness or astigmatism. He could clearly see the surprise, confusion, and wariness on Laura Smith's face.

"Hello." David Clark habitually used the common language of this world: "Do you need help?"

"Hello!" Laura Smith couldn't understand a word this young man was saying. But after taking a closer look, she felt that this righteous-looking young man probably meant her no harm, so she waved and greeted David Clark: "I need some help."

This listening test wasn't difficult; he could understand it, but he was scratching his head about how to reply.

Putting his bow and arrows aside, David Clark walked up to Laura Smith.

Seeing David Clark put down his weapon, Laura Smith was reassured that he meant no harm, and immediately started talking a lot. This gave David Clark a headache—he could only catch a few words here and there, and finally had to point at the wound Laura Smith was clutching, interrupting her.

In the story, Laura Smith fell into the sea during the shipwreck. Although she struggled to swim to shore, she was knocked out as soon as she landed. When she woke up, she was hanging upside down in a cave.

Although Laura Smith managed to escape with her intelligence and courage, she was injured in the process, with a penetrating wound on her side being the most serious.

It's hard to imagine that Laura Smith, a young girl who didn't look particularly strong, could climb snowy mountains and crawl through grasslands with such an injury, and even take down the entire Solarii Brotherhood, the mysterious Queen Himiko, and her numerous Stormguard.

Considering the metal that pierced her side was covered in rust, and Laura Smith's subsequent feats... even unarmed, Laura Smith's combat power was definitely over 5.

At this moment, the incredibly strong Laura Smith was in a very weak state. Following the direction David Clark pointed, she looked down at her waist, blood seeping through her fingers. She knew this wasn't the time for small talk, and she also realized the other person didn't understand English.

But maybe he could understand simple words? She tried saying, "I need help! Medicine!"

Laura Smith watched as the young man in front of her took something out of his waist pouch: a small bag and a roll of cloth that looked like a bandage.

When he opened the small bag, Laura Smith saw powder inside, apparently some kind of medicine—seemed her attempt had worked.

Taking out the medicine powder and homemade bandage he always carried, David Clark made a few gestures to Laura Smith: first pointing at his own eyes, then at Laura Smith's wound, and finally holding up the medicine powder and bandage.

Laura Smith understood what he meant. After hesitating for a few seconds, she nodded and lifted her vest a bit to reveal the wound.

Her movement tugged at the injury, and the sudden pain made Laura Smith let out a soft groan.

David Clark looked at Laura Smith's side. It was covered in blood and grime, making it impossible to see her original skin color—he couldn't apply the medicine directly in this state.

Handing the medicine powder and bandage to Laura Smith, David Clark pointed at the wooden chair beside the cabin and made a "wait a moment" gesture.

It was a simple gesture, easy for Laura Smith to understand. Taking the medicine powder and bandage, she sat on the wooden chair, watching as David Clark turned and went into the cabin, soon coming out with a basin of clean water. She understood what he meant.

Obediently sitting on the chair, Laura Smith watched as the helpful young man in front of her used a wet cloth to clean her waist and abdomen. She suddenly felt a bit awkward... she should be cleaning herself, but it seemed inappropriate to say anything now, and she figured he wouldn't understand her anyway.

David Clark carefully cleaned Laura Smith's wound. As he worked, the mud and blood were wiped away, revealing Laura Smith's fair, toned waist and abdomen.

Feeling the smooth, slippery sensation under his fingers, David Clark, who hadn't tasted meat in over a decade, felt a wave of heat rising inside him.

"Ahem!"

He pulled himself together, tossed the bloodstained cloth aside, took the medicine powder and bandage from Laura Smith, and efficiently bandaged her wound—his bandaging skills had improved a lot over the past two years.

After finishing, he stood up and nodded at Laura Smith.

At this point, Laura Smith also stood up. After checking the bandage on her waist, she looked up and sincerely thanked David Clark: "Thank you very much for your help."

"You're welcome."
