Chapter 19

In David Clark's plan, once Laura Smith helped him obtain high-yield crop seeds and solved the most basic farmland and food issues, he would head to Iron Tree Fort to recruit a group of villagers. If there were already people living in the village by then, it would undoubtedly be more convincing and help persuade more people to stay.

So, even if he ignored the benefits brought by his golden finger, and Mark Watson only stayed for a few years before leaving, he would still be very welcome.

These things, Mark Watson currently had no idea about. In fact, even if he knew, he wouldn't care. As long as his survival crisis could be urgently resolved, everything else was a minor issue.

Hearing David Clark express his welcome, Mark Johnson was so excited he couldn't close his mouth. He wondered if he was just delirious from hunger, as he seemed to smell the aroma of meat.

Soon, he realized it wasn't a hallucination from hunger—there really was a pot of meat soup waiting for him.

"Our Winter Village is located at the northernmost part of the kingdom. It's a newly established village and doesn't have much to offer. I hope you won't mind!"

Looking at the steaming hot meat soup that David Clark placed in front of him, Mark Johnson smiled even more brightly. "How could I? Thank you very much for your hospitality. If possible, I also hope I can help out a bit."

Mark Johnson didn't want to be someone who just freeloaded, and he was already starting to think about what he could do to contribute.

In his view, although he didn't know how he had come to this world and wasn't very familiar with it, from what he had observed so far, the civilization here seemed to be at a relatively backward stage. He should be able to use some advanced knowledge to make this village better.

While eating breakfast, Mark Johnson said that he wanted to tour Winter Village later—not just the 'interior' of this village with only four wooden houses, but also to take a look at the surrounding area.

"Of course you can." David Clark had no reason to refuse, and Franklin Baker said he was going to take a walk in the northern forest.

David Clark knew that Franklin Baker was worried about the wolf pack that had previously attacked David Clark and wanted to see if he could completely eliminate the threat. Naturally, he wouldn't object to this.

Just as everyone was eating breakfast and deciding what to do next, Laura Smith came running over again.

When Mark Watson was holding his wooden bowl and saw with his own eyes a person appear out of thin air in front of him, the last bit of doubt in his heart mostly disappeared. The only remaining suspicion was reserved for the option that "this might just be a bizarre dream!"

"Hello, my name is Laura Crawford!"

When Laura Smith introduced herself to Mark Watson, the expression on the face of this botanist from Mars was quite odd. He held back for a few seconds before introducing himself to Laura Smith: "Hello, my name is Mark Watson."

No one present was a fool, and Franklin Baker was especially shrewd. Although he didn't understand English at the moment, after these two days, he already knew that what Laura Smith said was a simple greeting and self-introduction. The fact that such a simple greeting caused Mark Watson to react this way made the situation quite interesting.

David Clark knew why Mark Johnson reacted like this, but he still acted very 'innocent', as if he knew nothing and just watched the fun from the side.

Laura Smith also realized something, but with her growing experience, she didn't rush to ask questions. She had more important matters to handle at the moment. She asked for some food and clean water, then had David Clark give her various buffs, and hurriedly left.

Watching the golden light that David Clark scattered with a wave of his hand, Mark Johnson suddenly realized that he had not only come to another world, but had also witnessed with his own eyes the mysterious powers that had previously only existed in various fantasy works.

"What is that?"

"Holy Light!"

Such a familiar name. Mark Watson suddenly felt that the possibility he was actually dreaming had increased a little.

Watching David Clark skillfully tidy up the pots and bowls, Mark Johnson followed behind, carefully observing everything and occasionally pinching his own arm or thigh in secret.

No matter how hard he tried, the pain he felt didn't wake him up. And if he really was dreaming, the details were just too vivid and real.

"Wait." While following David Clark around the village, Mark Johnson seemed to have discovered something and called out to David Clark, who was about to take him to the riverbank: "I think I found something."

"What is it?" David Clark, who was stopped, froze for a moment. He turned his head and saw Mark Johnson quickly rushing toward the back of a wooden house. "Is it a wild animal?"

Because the surrounding environment wasn't safe, David Clark always kept his weapon close, even when resting, let alone during daily activities.

He reached out, ready to take down the hunting bow on his back, but then heard Mark Johnson say, "No, I think I found potato sprouts."

"Huh?"

His hand, which was about to grab the bow, paused in midair. He stared in astonishment as Mark Watson carefully squatted on the open ground behind the wooden house, observed for a moment, and finally looked up and said, "I wasn't mistaken. These are indeed potato sprouts."

"......"

David Clark really wanted to reply, "Impossible." He had already lived here for two years—how could he have missed wild potatoes right under his nose?

He was just about to speak, but after meeting Mark Watson's gaze for a second, he suddenly realized something, and his retort turned into, "What is that?"
