"That's not a problem either." For Franklin Baker, the fact that David Clark wanted to learn everything was no issue at all. Before becoming a paladin, he was originally a priest—among the first five paladins of Azeroth, except for Gavinrad the Dire, who was a knight of the Stormwind Order, the other four were all priests from the Church of the Holy Light.
Considering David Clark's current poor physical condition, Franklin Baker believed that before improving his physique, David Clark didn't need to rush into practicing cold weapons like warhammers or two-handed greatswords. Instead, he should prioritize learning how to properly use the Holy Light for healing, curing diseases, and protecting himself, which would better ensure his own safety.
As for offensive Holy Light spells? David Clark could learn them later or not at all for now. With his archery skills, he could handle most situations at present.
In the following days, the two of them shuttled between the village and the forest while conducting lessons on the basics of the Holy Light.
David Clark learned quickly. After a few attempts, he almost immediately mastered how to use the Holy Light for healing and defense.
After several trips back and forth, his stamina was depleted, so Franklin Baker taught David Clark how to use the Holy Light to recover when exhausted.
It was much like when he first sensed the Holy Light: still kneeling on one knee, both hands resting on his knee. This time, Franklin Baker saw that the Holy Light on David Clark was no longer emanating from within, but, like most ordinary followers of the Light, a pillar of light descended from above, enveloping David Clark's entire body.
After observing for a while, Franklin Baker stopped watching. Since it was still early, he decided to hurry and bring back all the wood.
While Franklin Baker was transporting the wood back and forth, David Clark felt the warm energy constantly flowing through his body, and each time it passed, it seemed to dispel a bit of discomfort.
As time passed, he felt the warm current inside him growing stronger. He realized that this prayer-like state not only restored his body to its best condition but also made the Holy Light within him even more powerful.
"This must be the meditation method for Holy Light users, right?"
Thinking this, he opened his eyes again. As David Clark "awoke," the pillar of light enveloping him slowly faded, like golden rain gently falling and gradually disappearing.
At this moment, Franklin Baker had just brought back the last piece of wood. "Oh, you're awake? How do you feel?"
"Better than ever!" David Clark clenched his fist slightly, feeling as if his strength had increased again. Was it just his imagination? Remembering what Franklin Baker had said earlier—that users of the Holy Light could temper and train their bodies at will without worrying about injury—maybe it wasn't an illusion after all?
Just as David Clark was about to ask more about the Holy Light, he noticed a faint figure appearing outside the village.
"Someone's coming."
Franklin Baker stacked the thick logs together. Hearing David Clark's words, he followed his gaze outside the village and noticed the figure as well.
"Is it Laura Smith?"
"I don't know." Before the figure fully materialized and revealed their appearance, it was impossible to tell who it was. David Clark found this a bit troublesome—what if it was someone unpleasant, or even a major villain?
Fortunately, so far, the two people who had appeared were both absolutely righteous. Maybe his golden finger had some kind of filtering function?
While he was speculating, the figure outside the village finally revealed their true appearance. It wasn't a newcomer, but someone both of them knew—Laura Smith.
"Laura Smith, what's wrong?"
Laura Smith didn't look well. She was covered in mud and water, looking rather disheveled, and her hands were tied behind her back, her face full of panic.
"David Clark, help me!"
With her hands tied behind her, Laura Smith carefully ran up to David Clark. Seeing that David Clark had already drawn his dagger from his waist, she immediately turned around and presented her bound hands to him.
David Clark carefully cut the rope, then had Laura Smith turn back to face him before continuing to ask, "What happened?"
After all, it had been a long time since his previous life, and he could only remember Laura Smith and the general plot, not all the details. Seeing Laura Smith with her hands tied jogged his memory of some specifics.
"After I finally regrouped with my companions, we ran into some strange people..." Laura Smith took a few deep breaths to calm herself, then briefly described the situation in the simplest terms.
After listening, David Clark had flashes of corresponding scenes in his mind. These memories, buried deep in his mind, could still be recalled when triggered by keywords.
"Don't panic. Let's think about what to do next."
After hearing Laura Smith's account, David Clark understood her situation: this was Laura Smith's first encounter with a real enemy, so it was no wonder she had been so flustered.
In the original plot, if she hadn't been pushed to the brink, Laura Smith wouldn't have grown so much in just a few days.
But now things were different. With David Clark and his village as a special refuge, Laura Smith had a way out and someone to turn to for help, so she didn't immediately choose to fight the Brotherhood of the Sun to the death.
