Chapter 3

“A girl who knows how to create illusions, can make people float, and can read minds—wherever she lives, whether it’s hell or heaven, it’s definitely not the dull but relatively safe Earth I remember.”

“Well then, let me introduce you to how to use the Book of Demons! The Book of Demons comes in five models. I’m quite a senior guide, so you’ve received the largest capacity one! It has as many as sixteen thousand slots.”

“Is it possible to exchange for a smaller model? This one is just too gigantic.”

My suggestion was immediately rejected by Julia: “The one that’s half this size also has half the capacity! The smallest one only has a thousand slots. How could you let down my good intentions? And if you want to change the Book of Demons, you’d have to change the guide too. Do you really dislike me that much?” Julia changed her expression so quickly, instantly showing a pitiful look, as if she was about to cry.

I didn’t dare mention changing the Book of Demons again, but I still complained, “The manufacturing technology of the Book of Demons is really outdated! Nowadays, electronic storage devices increase capacity without increasing size.”

“The Book of Demons is a very ancient thing, don’t compare it to modern stuff!” Seeing how quickly I calmed down, Julia immediately smiled sweetly and said, “Every being who enters Demon Island receives five level-one ability cards. You’re lucky—your entry order matches my age. I’ll give you two extra ability cards as a bonus.”

“Where are my ability cards?”

Julia shrugged coolly, then said, “Repeat after me: Omega!”

“Omega!”

I foolishly repeated this meaningless word, and then my hand suddenly felt heavy—the thick, terrifyingly huge book automatically opened to a page.

Julia said cheerfully, “The first page is the Demon Assistant page, which is where I usually stay. When you don’t need me, I’ll be sleeping there! The second page is the Book of Demons’ settings page. You can set shortcut spells for using items and cards in the Book of Demons, so you don’t have to summon them every time you want to use them. Besides these two pages, the Book of Demons is divided into six sections: mastered abilities, held cards, owned treasures, demon contracts, acquired titles, and led legions.”

I casually flipped to the mastered abilities section, and to my surprise, there were three abilities recorded there. But after seeing the details, I was quite disappointed.

Base intelligence: 125

Average human IQ

Mental power: 5

Undeveloped

Muscle strength: 180

Physique is rather weak

“This is exactly what an ordinary person should be like. Someone with no intelligence or muscle would be either dead or an idiot.”

With Julia’s explanation, I quickly understood how to use the Book of Demons. Only then did Julia grin and say, “Now please turn to the held cards section. Do you see those cards?”

“I see them!”

Level-one space card

“Each card has two options below it: use and deactivate. These are all non-consumable cards. The consumable cards will disappear after use! But no matter what kind of card, only when it’s in the Book of Demons can it be effective!”

“Demon language? Could it be…”

“Being proficient in demon language is one of the essential skills for surviving on Demon Island. As the common language of Demon Island, demon language is quite interesting, and it’s required for most spells. Now you can choose your rewards from the cards in my hand.”

Julia spread out a handful of cards in her fair little hand, almost as many as half a deck of playing cards. I glanced over them and felt a headache, not knowing which two would benefit me most. “It seems the higher the card level, the more valuable it is. I should pick the high-level ones first!”

“Level three, level four… there’s even a level seven card! I’ll pick this one first, and then…”

Level-one cards are green, level-two are yellow, level-three are white. Most of the cards in Julia’s hand are these three levels, with only two blue level-four cards and one red level-seven card.

I took the level-seven card, glanced at it, and immediately cried out in frustration, my mood sinking.

Beauty Summoning Card
