Chapter 9

The beautiful girl holding a long knife said coldly, “Every time you encounter danger you can’t handle, you just abandon people and leave them behind. Isn’t this damned sense of mission a bit too righteous?”

The handsome guy Clara Sutton immediately complained, “That’s so I can give those I protect enough space to grow. Otherwise, they’ll always be chicks under a mother hen’s wings, never able to become eagles soaring in the sky!”

“This guy is just too despicable. He can say things like that without even blushing!” My understanding of Devil’s Island rose to a new level. I thought with a shudder, “If Devil’s Island is full of people like this, I don’t know how long I’ll survive. People’s hearts are truly treacherous.”

But for this ice-cold beauty who once saved my life, I somehow felt I could trust her. Without thinking, I blurted out, “Miss Harriet Turner, could you take me with you for a while? As a newcomer, I don’t even know what price I can pay, but I really want to make it home alive!”

The ice-cold beauty replied coldly, “I have no obligation to teach newcomers. If you don’t want to die, go to Devil’s Island’s auction house, buy a martial arts card, and work hard to train!”

Clara Sutton shrugged, still unwilling to give up, and asked, “I have a few intermediate martial arts cards in my hand right now, and even some magic cards. As long as you sign this contract, I can give them to you for free! How’s that for sincerity?”

I read the contract in the Book of Demons over and over, then suddenly said, “If the contract is only valid for three months, I’m willing to sign. I can’t accept anything indefinite.”

Seeing me decisively close the Book of Demons, Clara Sutton’s gaze immediately turned fierce. “Three months! That’s nowhere near enough for me to recoup my costs. You’d better just die peacefully on this island!”

“Oh my god!” Clara Sutton slammed his own Book of Demons shut and stormed off in a huff, all his elegance gone. In my Book of Demons, the contract section instantly became blank.

The ice-cold beauty Harriet Turner snorted, turned to me, and said, “You’re not that dumb after all. Since you managed to drive off Clara Sutton, I’ll give you this. I don’t need it anyway.”

With a flick of her finger, a thin card flew into my hand.

Flying Sand and Rolling Stones

Level 3 Martial Arts Card (×1)

One of the unique martial arts of the Desert Sect

Second move of the Wild Sand Blade Technique

Single-use consumable

Requires 150 points of Fierce Internal Energy and 25 points of Basic Blade Technique to learn.

Watching Harriet Turner’s long, jet-black hair trailing down to her waist as her figure disappeared at the end of the hotel, I muttered in frustration, “You mean well, but where am I supposed to get 150 points of Fierce Internal Energy? And what’s with the 25 points of Basic Blade Technique?”

Julia, dressed in a uniform, had somehow appeared behind me and clicked her tongue, saying, “You really are a top-tier wolf in sheep’s clothing. You’ve just arrived on Devil’s Island, haven’t even finished your newbie period, and you’re already hitting on beauties. I’m very happy to congratulate you on completing your first newbie task—reporting in at the Devil’s Island Grand Hotel! So, do you want to get a room first, or exchange for Devil’s Island universal currency?”

“Get a room? Exchange currency?”

“A standard room at the Devil’s Island Grand Hotel is five hundred a day! The presidential suite is twenty-eight thousand a day. Where would you like to stay?”

My brain instantly tied itself in knots, and somehow my mind wandered to the scene of holding Julia’s smooth, fair, naked body, rolling around in the big hotel room. I quickly reached up to wipe my nose—thankfully, I don’t have a nosebleed problem.

“You’re way too perverted! How can you think of me like that!”

Julia immediately pouted coquettishly and knocked on my head. Only then did I snap back and ask, “I don’t have a cent on me, so how am I supposed to get a room or exchange for Devil’s Island currency? Is there a free room?” What a joke, I don’t even have fifty bucks on me—how could I afford a luxury room at five hundred a day?

Julia beamed and said cheerfully, “Credit cards work too!”

I was about to say, I’m just a high school sophomore, how could I have a credit card, when Julia reached into my pocket and pulled out a wallet. It was the keepsake left by that middle-aged man.

Her small hand casually turned the wallet upside down and, to my surprise, pulled out eleven credit cards, all colorful and filling her hand.

“These credit cards aren’t even mine!” I started to complain, but Julia immediately shook her head and sighed, “If you don’t book a room before midnight, you’ll have to sleep on Devil’s Island tonight with those man-eating monsters!”

Chapter Eight: 460 Million Devil Coins

This suggestion made my scalp tingle. Clinging to a sliver of hope, I pointed at the credit cards in Julia’s hand and hesitantly asked, “So, can these be used?”

“Of course! Among your eleven credit cards, you have a total of sixteen million pounds, ninety million euros, three hundred and fifty million US dollars, and one hundred and sixty million Hong Kong dollars. These can be exchanged for 460 million Devil’s Island universal currency. The exchange rate for Devil’s Island currency to US dollars is one to one. For other currencies, we use international financial rates. Would you like to exchange it all?”

“F-f-f…”
