Chapter 12

He put away the little bug, hugged the tree trunk, and quickly climbed up. The big cat became even more frightened when it saw someone approaching, desperately tearing at the bark with its front paws in an attempt to escape, but the more it struggled, the more it hurt.

David Thompson tried to open the animal trap, but as soon as the big cat saw him reach out, it immediately swiped at him with its paw, widened its eyes, opened its mouth, and made a fake “woo woo” sound to scare him off.

Seeing this, he gave up on opening the trap for now and instead wrapped the cat in his clothes, carrying it to the car to find a pet hospital.

This cat was truly wild. Judging by its size, it was almost fully grown, and its temperament was especially fierce. Even after being wrapped in the clothes, it wasn’t scared; instead, it kept struggling and making “woo woo” sounds.

As a result, it bled even more.

David Thompson was anxious. He drove into the city, but didn’t know where to find an animal hospital. When he reached an intersection and saw St. John’s Red Cross Hospital nearby, he simply took the big yellow cat and ran inside.

Seeing blood seeping through his clothes, a nurse hurried over and asked, “Sir, what’s wrong?”

“It’s like this, I found a cat that got caught in an animal trap. Could you please find a doctor to save it?” David Thompson opened his clothes to show the nurse.

The Black nurse looked at him as if he were crazy and said, “This isn’t a pet hospital, sir.”

“Yes, I understand, but it’s just like us, a child of God. Look how small it is—it hasn’t even seen what Flagstaff looks like yet. Do you really want to watch it die?”

David Thompson improvised, saying this because he saw a cross hanging on the nurse’s chest.

He was right to say so. After hearing him out, the nurse didn’t argue further and said, “Alright, I’ll take you to Dr. Sophie. She’s the kindest, most compassionate doctor here. If she can’t help you, then you’ll just have to pray for luck!”

“But according to the rules, I need to register the patient first. What’s the cat’s name?”

David Thompson blinked. Nurse, are you kidding me? Didn’t I just say I rescued this cat in the wild?

“Hurry up, its name. There must be a record before you can enter the consultation room.”

David Thompson looked at the spotted cat still meowing and, using his wits, came up with a good name: “Oh, it’s called Kitty, yes, Kitty!”

“Meow!” Kitty cooperatively let out a cry, stretching out its paw, trying hard to swipe at David Thompson.

From this, it either didn’t like David Thompson, or it didn’t like the name.

But David Thompson didn’t care.

Chapter 0009: This Time, It’s a Motorcycle

The nurse pushed open the door to a consultation room, and David Thompson poked his head in, seeing an interesting scene.

Flagstaff is a small city, with few people and even fewer patients. There were no patients in the consultation room, only a young blonde female doctor.

The female doctor was dressed in white, her hair like golden willow branches draped over her shoulders. She had a tall, slender figure, and from the side, David Thompson could see a nearly S-shaped curve.

Hearing the door open, the female doctor first calmly moved her mouse, then, apparently frustrated by the computer’s lack of response, quickly pulled out the keyboard with her left hand and tapped it a couple of times.

Soon, the gentle tapping turned into hard pounding, and at the same time, she was vigorously sliding the mouse with her right hand. By chance, she turned her head, and David Thompson saw a delicate face with a panicked expression.

Seeing her reaction, the nurse laughed: “Ha, Sophie, my lovely girl, are you sneaking onto Amazon again during your break?”

The female doctor shook her head hard, her silky blonde hair swaying like tender willow branches in a spring breeze: “Ah, I wasn’t! I swear to God, I wasn’t on Amazon!”

“Then you must have been on E-BAY,” the nurse said confidently.

The female doctor kept shaking her head: “No, I—I wasn’t…”

“Swear to God?” the nurse teased.

Hearing this, the doctor’s pretty face clearly showed a defeated expression, and she muttered, “Damn it, the computer froze again. Why won’t the hospital get us a new one?”

The nurse laughed, “Alright, Dr. Sophie, time to work. There’s a seriously injured little cat here. I think you have to take a look.”

Little cat? David Thompson opened his clothes and looked down. With its size, it could hardly be called a little cat, right?

By now, Kitty had lost its earlier ferocity, its head drooping weakly, occasionally letting out a muffled “woo woo” from its throat.

Seeing the injured yellow cat, Sophie immediately shed her earlier embarrassment and became serious and confident.

She put on rubber gloves and fiddled with the animal trap, saying, “Its hip bone is injured, the pelvis is contracted, and the femur may be damaged. Also, the tensor fasciae latae and sartorius muscles are torn to varying degrees, and the intertransversarii caudae and caudal muscles are also damaged…”

“Thank God, the trap didn’t injure the femoral artery, but we can’t be sure yet if its left ureter, bladder, or descending colon are damaged. To be certain, we’ll need to do a CT scan.”

David Thompson asked, “Can you cure it?”

Sophie frowned at him, her delicate brows knitting together, which for some reason reminded him of willow leaves he used to roll up to whistle with as a child.

“The external injuries can be treated for now, but organ and substantial injuries need to be confirmed with equipment. Hmm, you were too careless. How could you leave an animal trap at home?”
