Chapter 9

Logan Clark felt worried for the girl's wallet.

But he was quickly proven wrong. At checkout, Logan Clark glanced at Ryan Clark's electronic screen.

The shopping expenses couldn't even keep up with the rate at which Ryan Clark's savings increased every second.

Rich people are truly incomprehensible!

Poverty really does limit Logan Clark's imagination.

Ryan Clark walked toward the modification workshop again.

When Ryan Clark came out of the workshop with the cart, the cart that had originally carried supplies had already been transformed into a small combat mountain vehicle.

Thick tracks, powerful engine, swaggering through the monitoring station with the cargo loaded.

Behind the cargo was a huge storage box with a refrigeration function, stuffed full of all kinds of items.

Clearly, someone has a gold mine at home.

Ryan Clark walked out of the monitoring station under everyone's astonished gaze.

In front of the station gates, Ryan Clark climbed into the seat at the front of the vehicle and sped toward the valley indicated by the mission.

There were many other hunters on the road heading out for missions, startled by the sudden appearance of the mountain vehicle, staring dumbfounded as Ryan Clark drove away.

Logan Clark was left speechless.

He recalled what Ryan Clark had just said to the staff when entering the modification workshop—

"Can you turn this vehicle into a tank?"

The commotion from the vehicle also attracted many roadside monsters.

But before they could get close, Logan Clark turned them into chunks of meat.

Some of the weaker ones couldn't even keep up with the speed of the mountain vehicle.

Two days later, the two of them arrived at the habitat of the Shock Beasts—a place that would have taken half a month to reach on foot.

A huge valley.

Looking down from the road, there was no sign of the Shock Beasts; the tall, dense trees completely covered the valley.

The morning mist wrapped the entire valley, thick moisture drifting upward, making it look peaceful and serene.

But faintly, you could hear a muffled rumbling.

Shock Beasts, as the name suggests, are creatures capable of generating vibrations.

All animal behavior must have a purpose—whether for survival, mating, or pleasure.

However, scientists do not know the purpose behind the Shock Beasts' vibrations.

Some studies even speculate that the vibration is forced, as they can even be woken up by their companions' vibrations.

Ryan Clark reviewed information about the Shock Beasts on her electronic screen while slowly steering the small vehicle into the valley.

Logan Clark was also eager to see this strange creature as soon as possible.

Fortunately, the two soon spotted one at the bottom of the valley.

At first glance, it looked like a giant mechanical spider with its legs stretched out, its massive limbs made of metallic parts that no living creature should possess.

But compared to a spider, it only had two mechanical legs, full of imbalance, alternating back and forth among the towering trees.

Its slender body blended into the trees rising in the valley.

On the two legs was a small spherical metal mesh, inside which bright red flesh was entwined—the only visible biological structure.

That red flesh pulsed like a heart, and with each beat, the rear mechanical leg would rotate half a turn to the front.

The sharp tip at the front stabbed deep into the ground, and with the next pulse of flesh, a dull vibration would come from the tip embedded in the earth.

This cycle repeated endlessly—as long as it moved, the vibration never ceased.

Logan Clark watched the over two-meter-tall strange creature in awe.

Weird—indescribably weird.

A body structure that defied all mechanics, behavior with no apparent purpose.

Ryan Clark followed behind, quietly recording the creature with her instruments.

According to records, the Shock Beast is a creature with very poor perception, usually wandering aimlessly.

Shock Beasts can only sense vibrations very close to them, with a range even smaller than Logan Clark's.

When they sense a vibration that doesn't belong to themselves, they go berserk and attack the source of the vibration—like you being woken up at 6:30 a.m. on a Saturday by a drill upstairs.

As a result, they even go crazy and attack their own kind.

That's right—they are absolutely solitary creatures, yet they have dedicated habitats.

When Logan Clark first read the records, he felt a deep sense of incongruity about this creature.

What is the meaning of their existence?

Logan Clark fell into contemplation.

While he was observing, the Shock Beast ahead suddenly stopped moving, and the flesh inside the spherical metal mesh froze.

What happened?

When the mechanical leg rotated again, it spun around and pointed straight at Logan Clark and the others.

Crap.

The flesh suddenly throbbed violently like an erupting heart, and the vibrations rapidly intensified.

That Shock Beast broke the norm and sensed the commotion behind it, turning around and charging at them!

Because she knew the habits of the Shock Beasts, Ryan Clark hadn't stayed far away, and this sudden situation caught her off guard.

Fortunately, Logan Clark's gaze had been locked on the Shock Beast the whole time.

He quickly aimed at the spherical head and directly separated a large chunk of flesh.

A cube-shaped hole instantly appeared in the Shock Beast's originally spherical head.

The pulsating flesh oozed out of the hole in the metal mesh like jelly, dropping to the ground like a broken egg.

Even after hitting the ground, it kept pulsing, like a red slime.

The hole left by Logan Clark stretched out red threads of flesh, slowly healing.

The little flesh slime was still relentless, slowly hopping toward Ryan Clark as if on a suicide mission.

Without the control of the flesh, the mechanical legs crashed to the ground.

Only the red slime on the ground kept bouncing comically, trying in vain to get closer.
