Chapter 12

But the riot of the Tremor Beasts was on a massive scale, which was different from the infection of the Red String Worms.

Thinking of this, Logan Clark quickly used the previous method to eliminate the attacking Tremor Beasts.

Once again, the infected chunk of flesh was brought to Ryan Clark.

This time, Ryan Clark didn’t need any reminder and took out her tools to search for worms in the flesh.

Ryan Clark’s suspicion was confirmed.

She quickly got into the vehicle and headed deeper into the valley.

The further they went, the larger the Tremor Beasts became.

But all these Tremor Beasts had lost consciousness, the spherical flesh on their heads pulsing slowly as they moved forward blankly.

Even when the vehicle passed by, they didn’t react.

Normally, so many Tremor Beasts could never coexist so peacefully.

The vibrations they emitted would be enough to trigger a massive brawl.

One infected Tremor Beast fell into a deep pit, and even so, its two metal legs kept moving.

A short, stubby limb extended from the spherical metal mesh, apparently an evolutionary change.

It was trying to climb out of the pit.

The vehicle continued forward and arrived at a large lake.

Logan Clark saw Ryan Clark’s pupils suddenly widen, and then she stopped the car by the lakeshore.

She took out her recording device and began documenting the situation in the lake.

Following the screen of the instrument, Logan Clark also saw the shocking scene.

Countless Tremor Beasts were submerged in the center of the lake, their dense metal limbs crowded together.

With each pulse of flesh, the limbs sent tremors through the water, chaotic ripples spreading all the way to the shore.

On the shore, a few unconscious Tremor Beasts were walking straight toward the center of the lake.

On the opposite bank, fully evolved Tremor Beasts were stranded at the water’s edge.

Their two legs had fused into a shape like fish fins, swaying constantly with the swelling of their heads.

But having lost the ability to walk, they could only hop along the shore, struggling to bounce farther away.

Even just through the screen, Logan Clark could feel the terror of the scene before her.

In that instant, Logan Clark had the same question that once plagued the researchers’ minds:

Where are they going?

After recording the scene, Ryan Clark drove around the lake and continued forward.

She opened the map and marked a location.

The direction the Tremor Beasts were moving was right at the center of their habitat.

Soon, the vehicle braked before a downhill slope.

What’s wrong?

Logan Clark’s view was limited, so she didn’t know what had happened.

Fortunately, Ryan Clark once again took out the recording device.

Logan Clark quickly looked over.

……

It was an ocean of Tremor Beasts.

Tremor Beasts of all shapes and sizes were fighting endlessly at the bottom of the slope.

When their own kind became obstacles, they attacked forward like sheep charging a pen.

The violent tremors liquefied the soil in the entire area, and the gathered Tremor Beasts had forcibly created a funnel-shaped pit.

The weaker Tremor Beasts were trampled into the dirt by their companions; the deeper in, the stronger they became, their limbs grotesquely mutated.

Like a breeding ground for Gu, the inner Tremor Beasts’ limbs had sprouted all kinds of metal spikes.

The spikes pierced into their companions’ flesh, the bright red muscle fibers constantly sticking and healing, trapping the limbs inside.

The trapped Tremor Beasts simply broke off their limbs, turning into balls that rolled forward.

The rolling balls got stuck among others, leaving only tiny gaps.

The flesh could only pulse and extend forward, flowing like liquid through the holes in the metal mesh.

They became flesh slimes.

The swarms of slimes crowded together, merging into a red pool.

What were they fighting for?

Could it be that all these Tremor Beasts controlled by the Red String Worms were targeting the same creature?

Ryan Clark zoomed in with the recording device, focusing on the center of the red pool in the pit.

Logan Clark’s gaze also fixed on that abrupt patch of black.

On the bright red surface, a spiral-shaped, pitch-black object floated.

Waves surged around it as the slimes fought over it, pushing the black object back and forth.

Was that... a horn?

No one knew what creature the horn belonged to—tough, straight, jet black, with no other color visible.

It seemed to absorb all light; if not for the curve at the edge, its shape would be impossible to discern.

Ryan Clark uploaded the image of the black horn to the database for a search.

Information popped up, and she compared them one by one, but found no match.

No results.

The investigation was once again at a standstill.

Logan Clark began to doubt the records about the Red String Worms.

Why was the target a horn? Could a dead creature also be infected by the worms?

While Logan Clark was puzzled, Ryan Clark once again patted the cube.

She held the electronic screen with the image of the black horn in front of the cube and waved it, then gave the cube a thumbs-up.

“Help me out later and get this, understand?”

She seemed to trust the cube’s abilities, and probably from the cube’s behavior of transmitting worms, she realized the cube was actively helping her.

After giving her instructions, Ryan Clark decisively accelerated and charged into the deep pit.

Chapter 10: Tremor Beast Deep Pit

Chaos.

Tremor Beasts converging from all directions had evolved into all sorts of forms.

None of them looked quite normal.

The most common were those that had grown extra limbs.

Three-legged, four-legged, centipede-like...

The shapes of the legs varied as well—some had webbed feet, some had hooked spikes.
