Chapter 9

“Starting tomorrow, Andrew, you will follow Otis to learn combat training. There are also some other children in the castle who will train with you,” the baron said calmly.

“Alright, Father.”

“Your constitution has never been very good. The main reason I want you to learn combat skills is to help you regain a bit of a normal person’s physique.” The baron looked at Andrew, a trace of concern in his eyes.

Edward Scott was well aware that if this body had really been in good shape, he wouldn’t have died from falling off a horse, giving him the chance to take over.

“I understand,” Edward Scott nodded.

“How is your recovery?” Otis asked gently from the side.

“I’m fine now, basic training won’t be a problem.”

“That’s good,” Otis nodded.

“If there’s anything you want to eat, just tell the head maid Ansel. We hunted a horned ox the other day, so you can use it to nourish your body. Alright, go get some rest,” the baron instructed.

Edward Scott stood up, gave a slight bow, and then quickly walked out of the study.

Maggie was still waiting at the stairway with a candlestick. In the pitch-black stairwell, only Maggie stood there.

Edward Scott strode over.

“Isn’t anyone else in the castle at this hour? Why isn’t it lit up?”

Maggie shook her head and said, “This is the residential area. Right now, everyone in the castle should be gathered at the training grounds or the tavern. There aren’t many people here, so we don’t waste candles.”

“Oh,” Edward Scott nodded.

He knew from Andrew’s memories that the castle was roughly divided into several areas.

The residential area, the activity area, and the miscellaneous area.

The activity area was the training grounds and the arena. The miscellaneous area included the tavern, blacksmith, stables, and so on.

In fact, the castle as a whole was only about the size of a university campus back on Earth in Edward Scott’s previous life. And there were only about two hundred people inside. Only cavalry and strong swordsmen or spearmen were qualified to live here, and even then, there were only about a hundred of them.

“Let’s go back,” Edward Scott shook his head, not thinking about it any further.

The two of them, one after the other, returned to Edward Scott’s bedroom.

But as soon as Edward Scott opened the door, he saw a small figure curled up in the corner of the room. It was the same Cecilia from before.

“You damned little thing, who let you enter Young Master Andrew’s room without permission?!” Maggie, who was a bit behind, also saw her and immediately shouted.

The figure in the corner shrank back even more.

Edward Scott raised his hand to stop Maggie, who was about to rush in.

“It’s fine, forget it, you can go now.”

Maggie quickly withdrew.

“Yes, young master.”

With a click, the door closed.

Edward Scott walked over to the corner, sizing up the Cecilia sent by his father.

She was wearing a grayish-white corseted dress, her round shoulders exposed, her skin fair and delicate, with long black hair draped over her shoulders. If not for the tear stains on her face, she would have looked like a very young and pure little girl.

But Edward Scott wasn’t in the mood.

He grabbed the silk quilt from the bed and tossed it over Cecilia, then simply flopped onto the bed himself.

“Whew…” He let out a deep breath.

Judging by the current situation—

My status is pretty good. Under the baron’s protection, I don’t have to worry about anything. But nothing lasts forever, so I have to be prepared. This world is nothing like the peaceful Earth.

Edward Scott’s mind was spinning with thoughts. Lying on the bed, he slowly drifted off to sleep.

He didn’t know how much time had passed before he was woken up by a commotion.

Opening his eyes, Edward Scott slowly pushed himself up from the bed. The white silk quilt slid off him.

“Didn’t I just fall asleep like this?” Edward Scott rubbed his eyes. He clearly remembered giving the quilt to Cecilia in the corner.

Suddenly, a small hand reached over from the left.

Edward Scott looked over.

Cecilia, the little girl, was actually lying on his left side, curled up and sleeping soundly.

At this moment, Edward Scott noticed that his socks and outer clothes had been taken off.

“It was probably this little girl who did it,” Edward Scott thought, almost certain.

Cecilia was someone he had met during a hunting trip on a hillside.

At that time, Cecilia was herding sheep on the slope. Andrew took a liking to her at first sight, and at the baron’s suggestion, she was given to Andrew as a gift upon his return from Candia City.

This little girl’s family was just ordinary farmers, so Cecilia was very sensible. She was well aware of her situation. If she could win Young Master Andrew’s favor, her parents would be more secure and receive better benefits. And she wasn’t the only child in her family—she had an older brother and a younger sister. So she was more or less willing to enter the castle as Andrew’s gift.

Edward Scott knew all this from Andrew’s memories. So he guessed it was Cecilia who had helped him take off his outer clothes and socks.

At dawn, bright rays of light streamed in through the window. The air was a bit cool.

Outside, the sounds of the guards’ morning drills came in rhythmically.
