Chapter 17

“Go on.” He said indifferently, casually tossing the dead snake in his hand to a guard. The latter quickly took out a prepared burlap sack and put it away.

The two of them were still in a state of confusion.

Suddenly, there was another dull thud.

A faint smile appeared on Andrew’s face as he strode toward a large tree not far away.

Only then did the two notice that nailed to the distant tree was, once again, a one-eyed snake.

“Master’s archery is amazing!” one of the guards couldn’t help but exclaim. “We have to get close just to tell the difference between the one-eyed snake and the tree trunk, but you can see it from so far away. Incredible!”

Andrew just smiled at the words and didn’t reply.

He walked up to the trunk, pulled out the white-feathered arrow, and put it back in his quiver. The arrow had struck the one-eyed snake right in the head, piercing its single eye and leaving a bloody hole—clearly, he had made a mistake.

Even with the chip’s correction and target tracking, physical stability still required constant practice to achieve. Back on Earth, archery competitions had a minimum distance of over a kilometer, and everyone used mechanical compound bows with extremely long ranges. It all came down to who had better stability, since everyone had chip assistance.

“Let’s continue.” Andrew said calmly.

The three of them continued searching for prey in the woods. Andrew also showed an accuracy rate of missing four out of every ten arrows, which the two guards gradually got used to.

After all, that kind of hit rate was normal. In the dense forest, it was already quite good. And without receiving the seed inheritance, no matter how good one’s archery was, without the strength to draw a high-quality large longbow or compound bow, it still posed little threat to powerful warriors. At best, it made one a decent archer among the foot soldiers.

In less than half an hour, both guards were holding bulging gray cloth sacks. Inside were all the squirrels, gray rabbits, and one-eyed snakes that Andrew had shot. The bags were so full they could barely fit any more.

“You two go back and drop off the game, then come back.” Andrew instructed. “I’ll just rest here for a bit.” He was about to toss the dead snake in his hand to a guard, but for some reason, he hesitated. With a gentle twist of his hunting knife inside the snake’s mouth, he dug out a white venom gland. He put the gland into his waist pouch before finally tossing the dead snake to the guard.

Taking the dead snake, the two guards exchanged a glance.

“I’ll have Hank take the game back. I’ll stay here to protect you,” one of them said.

“That’s fine.” Andrew nodded. He was a bit tired too, so he simply leaned against a tree trunk and sat down. After eating dozens of one-eyed snake eyeballs in a row, he could feel a slight warmth spreading through his body, and he seemed to be getting lighter and lighter.

One guard took the game back. The other sat down on the grass beside him.

“Actually, we’ve heard before that eating the eyes of one-eyed snakes might be good for you. Some people have tried it before, but it never worked,” the remaining guard said with a wry smile.

“It didn’t work?” Andrew frowned.

“That’s right. Everyone who tried it just ended up with diarrhea, nothing else,” the guard replied.

Andrew nodded. He knew that not everything worked for everyone. The chip’s analysis had also mentioned the issue of compatibility. Eating the one-eyed snake’s eyeballs raw contained a certain substance that increased his agility, but whether it worked for others was unknown. After all, everyone’s constitution was different, and people at different stages of growth could have vastly different results.

He was quite satisfied with today’s haul. If it weren’t for the need to conceal his abnormality, he could have hit every shot. With only a few dozen meters’ distance and the chip’s assistance, it was no challenge at all.

“That’s enough for today. Let’s go back and rest.” After resting for a while, Andrew stood up and said.

“All right.”

The two of them walked back the way they had come.

Over the next half month, Andrew went hunting in the nearby woods every day, and his excellent archery skills became known throughout the castle. No one was surprised anymore by the game he brought back each day.

At noon in the woods, the dappled sunlight was cut into patches.

A white-feathered arrow shot out with a swish.

Thud!!

Another one-eyed snake was pinned to a branch more than twenty meters away.

A burst of hurried footsteps came from the grass.

An ordinary-looking youth in a light green hunting outfit, holding a black short bow, emerged from the grass. Two young warriors followed behind him, both adult men dressed in gray-brown leather armor.

“Another hit,” one of the men said with a smile.

The youth nodded, walked forward, pulled out the white-feathered arrow, grabbed the one-eyed snake’s head, skillfully drew a small hunting knife, gouged out the red single eye, and tossed it into his mouth, swallowing it whole.

As he swallowed the snake eye, a flush appeared on the youth’s originally fair face.

A wave of heat instantly surged from within his body, flowing to his limbs. An unusually light feeling rose in his heart.

“Andrew young master, is that it for today?” one of the guards asked.
