After making his vow, Logan Bennett stood up, determined to leave the deep mountains and head toward human society in this world, to search for the reason he had crossed over, and to find a way back to his sister.
At the same time, at the top floor of the Divine Dragon Sanctuary in the Yan Empire.
The sanctuary’s dome was like the sky itself, inlaid with countless gems that resembled real stars.
At this moment, a star suddenly burst forth with golden light, then fell from the dome, transforming into a strange, demonic flame.
Immediately, the high priest who was meditating opened his eyes in shock and exclaimed, “This is bad, the demon star has appeared, a great catastrophe is coming.”
He then rushed out of the meditation chamber and hoarsely shouted outside, “Eighteen Holy Envoys, take the sanctuary army and immediately search the southeastern region of the Central Lands for any suspicious individuals. This person does not belong to this world. If found, kill on sight.”
“Yes!” Instantly, more than a dozen shadows shot out from the sanctuary.
The high priest looked at the masses outside, trembling as he said, “The demon star descends, doomsday is upon us. Let’s hope this prophecy isn’t true!”
……
Logan Bennett walked in the mountains for days and nights, yet he could never leave the vast wilderness. When hungry, he ate wild fruits that looked relatively safe; when thirsty, he drank from mountain springs.
During these days, he discovered something strange: his body had undergone great changes.
Originally, his body wasn’t exactly weak, but it was by no means strong. But after crossing into this world, it was as if a mysterious and powerful force had emerged deep within him.
Whenever he walked dozens of miles and felt utterly exhausted, a surge of energy would well up from deep within his heart, flooding his limbs and bones, instantly washing away all fatigue and filling him with strength. Even after long periods without food, he didn’t feel extremely weak.
Moreover, this energy was extremely mysterious. Whenever he tried to sense it or find it, it was completely elusive.
Now, Logan Bennett was certain that it wasn’t a dream, but real—there was truly an extremely evil demon star within his body.
Suddenly, Logan Bennett shivered. He called out to it again, but it never responded.
However, even with the demon star’s energy inside him, he was now almost completely exhausted. No matter how far he walked, there was still endless forest and mountains ahead. Logan Bennett was on the verge of going mad, as if he were living in prehistoric times, the only person in the entire world.
Ten days, half a month, twenty days…
Logan Bennett truly began to suspect that he had crossed into a world without people, for he saw no houses, no trace of human existence.
He kept walking, and walking, and walking…
Logan Bennett had become a wild man—his hair and beard had grown long, and his clothes had turned into rags.
He didn’t know how long he had walked. One day, Logan Bennett emerged from a dense forest, and suddenly the view opened up. Not far away, at the foot of the mountain, a wide road stretched from east to west.
At once, Logan Bennett was overjoyed. He had finally made it out of the mountains, finally escaped! And where there was a road, there would be people, there would be human society.
Though he had been utterly exhausted, Logan Bennett was now filled with boundless energy and rushed desperately toward the road.
……
About two hours later, Logan Bennett finally descended from the mountains and reached the road, where he saw wagon tracks. He followed the road eastward.
As he walked, he kept his ears pricked, ready to call for help at the first sign of anyone passing by.
After walking for about half an hour, his ears suddenly twitched—he heard the thunder of hooves behind him.
He quickly turned around and saw, several hundred meters away, a group of riders galloping toward him.
Over a hundred fully armed knights were escorting a carriage, raising clouds of dust as they charged. These people, dressed in fine clothes and riding spirited horses, were clearly of wealth and status.
Logan Bennett quickly waved his hands and shouted loudly.
“Sir, there’s a savage up ahead blocking the road and shouting,” a knight reported respectfully to the carriage.
After more than two months in the deep mountains, Logan Bennett’s clothes were in tatters, his face covered in a wild beard, his hair disheveled—he truly looked like a savage.
“Charge through and crush him,” came a cold, sinister voice from within the carriage. “All wild savages deserve to die.”
With that, the group charged straight at Logan Bennett, intent on trampling him to death, moving at incredible speed.
Logan Bennett realized that the horses in this world were much taller and more imposing than those on Earth, and much faster too. In the blink of an eye, they were upon him.
These warhorses were all clad in armor, standing over two meters tall. If he were hit, he’d be dead or crippled for sure. How could these people be so ruthless, willing to trample a stranger to death just for blocking the road?
Logan Bennett quickly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the charging warhorses.
“He actually dared to dodge—whip him to death,” the young noble inside the carriage said cruelly.
“Yes.” Instantly, a warrior drew his whip and lashed it fiercely at Logan Bennett.
The whip cracked through the air like lightning. Logan Bennett tried desperately to dodge, but he couldn’t avoid it at all.
