Ethan Carter was startled—he hadn’t expected this system to actually read his mind and answer his questions. But now was clearly not the time to study this issue; that BMW was almost out of his sight.
“Since there’s a mission, there must be a mission reward. Maybe if I complete this mission, the system will give me a reward, and then I’ll definitely be stronger than I am now.”
Watching as the BMW was about to disappear into the distance, Ethan Carter grew increasingly anxious. There was no way he could catch up on foot, so he had to find a car. But with such heavy rain, taxis on the street had all but vanished—where could he possibly find one in such a short time?
A thought struck Ethan Carter, and he quickly asked, “How can I catch up to William Smith?”
“That’s for you to figure out,” the childlike, melodious voice sounded again.
“Even online games have auto-pathfinding! Why is this Thief God System so outdated?!”
Ethan Carter couldn’t help but curse the lousy system in his heart, but then worried the system might know, so he shut up.
“Of all times for William Smith to get married, why now? Has he lost his mind?”
“And those taxis—always circling around before, but now, when it matters, not a single one in sight.”
That damn BMW prince actually treated him like a beggar. Ethan Carter already disliked him, and now the system wanted him to steal William Smith’s wedding ring. Not only could he vent his frustration, but he’d also get a reward—a win-win situation. Of course Ethan Carter was happy to do it, but now it looked like the whole thing might fall through just because he couldn’t find a taxi. Naturally, he was upset.
“There it is!”
A taxi sped down the street. Ethan Carter’s eyes lit up, and he hurried forward to flag it down.
The driver glanced up at him, impatience written all over his face. “I don’t take beggars in my car.”
Ethan Carter’s face stiffened. He quickly tossed the few coins in his hand to the driver and urged, “Hurry, follow that BMW up ahead!”
With the rain pouring down, the driver saw Ethan Carter covered in mud and would never have let him in under normal circumstances. But hearing Ethan Carter’s words, he couldn’t help but wonder: Could this be some secret mission from a national agency? Better not let a small matter delay something important for the country.
As he thought this, the driver looked up at Ethan Carter again. Despite being covered in mud, his eyes were especially bright, and though he wasn’t tall, his powerful build made it clear—
He was a martial artist!
At this moment, Ethan Carter still didn’t realize that after the Thief God System’s transformation, his body looked much stronger than before, and his whole aura had changed dramatically. Seeing the driver staring at him, he grew anxious and hurried the driver along.
The driver agreed, let Ethan Carter in, and, thinking of all those scenes from TV about chasing fugitives and such, quickly sped after the BMW.
The taxi followed the BMW around half of H City, finally heading straight for the city center’s Mingyue Entertainment Club.
Along the way, the driver kept chatting with Ethan Carter, acting very friendly. Originally, Ethan Carter had planned to use this time to study the Thief God System, but the driver’s chatter ruined that plan.
When they arrived at Mingyue Entertainment Club, Ethan Carter got out of the car, finally shaking off the driver’s pestering, and saw that William Smith had already parked and gone inside.
The rain was pouring, but Mingyue Entertainment Club was still bustling, with people constantly coming and going.
The club was considerate enough to have hostesses holding umbrellas to escort guests in and out. These hostesses were all quite pretty. In Ethan Carter’s words, each one could rival half the class beauty from his school days. Unfortunately… all the good cabbages had been snatched by pigs.
Mingyue Entertainment Club was the largest in H City, with the highest prices. Normally, someone as shabby as Ethan Carter would never have a chance to get in, but today was different.
If he’d come here on a normal day, Ethan Carter would have spent some time ogling the hostesses, but now he had no such mood—his mission came first.
Ethan Carter circled around the club, coming to the back. The five-meter-high wall that once seemed insurmountable was now easy—he climbed over with just a bit of effort.
Ethan Carter slipped into the club. To avoid drawing attention with his clothes, he simply knocked out a waiter, changed into his uniform, and then went to the restroom to clean up.
After all this, Ethan Carter began searching for William Smith inside the club. Mingyue Entertainment Club was huge, and finding one person wasn’t easy. More importantly, Ethan Carter had never even seen William Smith’s face, nor heard his voice.

Chapter 3: The Overbearing System
But what comforted Ethan Carter was that the entire Mingyue Entertainment Club had been booked out, and everywhere was filled with a festive atmosphere. Clearly, something joyful was happening—he knew, of course, it was because of William Smith’s wedding.
This actually made things easier for him. All he had to do was wait in the main hall of the club, since the wedding would definitely be held there soon.
