Chapter 11

In the car, Mr. Turner spoke confidently, “Of course, the power of espers is simply too great, so it’s inevitable that it would affect the order of the city. That’s why the Esper Association has stipulated that no esper is allowed to use their powers within the city.”

“For example, what you just did—that’s a violation of the rules. You’d be thrown into the esper prison for that!”

“Not allowed to use powers?” Ethan Carter looked completely confused. Then what’s the difference between espers and ordinary people?

“Wait… that Esper Association you just mentioned—what exactly is that?” Ethan Carter finally caught onto a key point.

“When we say you can’t use your powers, it means you can’t use them to fight, not for other things. If you’re just strong and use your strength to move things, or if you use your psychic power to grab the remote while watching TV, do you really think those guys from the Esper Association would throw you in jail for that?”

Mr. Turner looked frustrated as he explained, “The Esper Association is made up of all the most powerful espers in the world. Its main purpose is to maintain order in the world of espers. Basically, 99% of espers will join the Esper Association. I’m a member too.”

“Mundane laws don’t apply to espers, but you must follow the rules of the Esper Association, or you’ll be in big trouble.”

“Oh!” Ethan Carter nodded, thinking to himself that these Esper Association guys were really scheming. Why are they always thinking about using their powers to fight? Can’t they do something a little more loving?

Like stealing things—surely that’s not against the rules, right?

“By the way, you said there are nine levels of espers. Which level are you?” Ethan Carter suddenly remembered a question and asked.

“I’m a first-level warrior.”

“Hahaha, you’re only first-level? Such a rookie?”

“Boss, I think you’re first-level too!” Mr. Turner was covered in black lines. It seemed his boss really was a newbie—a total newbie.

“Oh!” Ethan Carter thought about it and realized Mr. Turner had a point. He felt a bit frustrated too.

Wait a minute…

“What did you just call me?” Ethan Carter suddenly caught on, looking suspiciously at Mr. Turner.

“Boss.” Mr. Turner finally revealed his fox tail, grinning awkwardly. “I want to be your underling.”

“What?” Ethan Carter wondered if he’d misheard. Who fights to be someone else’s underling? There must be some kind of scheme.

He looked himself up and down, but didn’t see any of that main character aura you read about in novels!

“Spit it out—what’s really going on?” Ethan Carter glared at Mr. Turner, pressing him for answers.

“Heh heh, boss, you don’t know. Both psychokinetics and warriors are espers, but psychokinetics are much rarer, much more in demand, and have much higher status. Take me, for example—I’m just a first-level warrior, so I have to do this kind of work to make a living. But if I were a first-level psychokinetic, those big families would have worshipped me already.” Mr. Turner hurriedly explained, “Being an underling to a psychokinetic is something most people can only dream of.”

“Oh, so you’re just looking for a powerful backer!”

After hearing Mr. Turner’s explanation, Ethan Carter started to understand. Psychokinetics really were a bit stronger than warriors. For example, just now, when he fought Mr. Turner, even though they were both first-level espers, he’d easily defeated him. He was confident he could handle three or five first-level warriors without a problem.

Since someone wanted to be his underling, Ethan Carter certainly didn’t refuse, and immediately accepted Mr. Turner as his little brother.

That night, when Ethan Carter and Mr. Turner arrived at the hospital, it was already close to midnight.

After paying the remaining hospitalization and various nutrition fees, Ethan Carter had only a small amount of money left.

“Sigh!” Ethan Carter looked at the stack of medical bills in his hand and let out a deep sigh. In this city, buying a house and getting medical treatment were both so hard. Even someone like him, an esper, was struggling this much—let alone ordinary people.

Mr. Turner was in the same boat as Ethan Carter. Although he was an esper too, he was just a warrior. Compared to ordinary people, he was only a bit stronger—what kind of way was there for him to get rich?

After returning from the hospital, Mr. Turner went back to Jingwang Street. Ethan Carter declined Mr. Turner’s invitation and returned to his own twenty-square-meter rental apartment.

“Super Thief God System?”

Back in his apartment, Ethan Carter began to study the system he had. He always felt that he was different from ordinary espers.

Although Mr. Turner said there were espers who trained as both warriors and psychokinetics, surely not everyone had a system like this, right?

Lying on his bed, Ethan Carter used his psychic power to sense everything around him.

Whenever he did this, he felt a sense of control…

It was as if the world, the earth, and nature itself were all under his command…

It was as if he wasn’t using his psychic power to control things, but was issuing commands with his mind…

It was a strange feeling!

“If one day my psychic power becomes infinitely strong and I can command everything, wouldn’t I be invincible in the whole universe!” Ethan Carter started daydreaming as he lay in bed. At his age, his imagination was running wild—there was nothing he didn’t dare to dream about.

Just like that, after tossing and turning for most of the night, Ethan Carter finally drifted off to sleep.
