“What are you talking about? I don’t know anything!” Ethan Carter said innocently.
He had obtained the Thief God System, which meant he had gained a superpower. Seeing how serious Mr. Turner was, he had already guessed most of it—he was probably not the only superpowered person in this world, but there were many, and in the city, you couldn’t just use your powers as you pleased.
Still, even though Ethan Carter had figured out the general idea, he continued to play dumb.
After all, ignorance is innocence. He didn’t want to get locked up in a dark room. If someone asked where his powers came from, he could just say he was born with them. Who said being born with powers was illegal?
When Mr. Turner saw Ethan Carter’s confused face, he figured he really didn’t know, so he said, “Since we’re both superpowered, let’s settle this the superpowered way.”
“I, Chris Bolton, a first-rank martial artist, challenge you.” Mr. Turner stepped forward and said in a deep voice.
“A challenge?” Ethan Carter’s eyes darted as he asked, “Why should I accept your challenge? What’s in it for me?”
“You…” Mr. Turner was taken aback. He hadn’t expected someone to be so shameless, and he said angrily, “If you win, I’ll exchange all those pieces of jewelry for you. But if you lose, you have to be my underling.”
Mr. Turner had it all planned out. Now that he knew Ethan Carter was superpowered, he was reluctant to kill him. Having a superpowered underling would be impressive.
And from how clueless Ethan Carter was about superpowered matters, he figured Ethan Carter was a rookie, probably no match for him.
“Fine, I accept your challenge.” Ethan Carter’s purpose in coming here was to raise money for Little Brian’s medical treatment. Now that the opportunity had come, of course he wouldn’t let it slip by.
“To avoid damaging things here, let’s duel in the woods to the east,” Mr. Turner said.
Ethan Carter nodded.
The two of them left Jingwang Street and headed straight for the woods.
“I’m about to make my move, so be careful,” Mr. Turner grinned at Ethan Carter from across the way.
With that, Mr. Turner threw a punch at Ethan Carter, a punch with a force of at least a thousand pounds.
In truth, facing Mr. Turner, Ethan Carter wasn’t very confident. The other had gotten his powers much earlier and surely had better control.
His only advantage was his mental power, since Mr. Turner hadn’t mentioned anything about mental power from start to finish.
Ethan Carter braced himself and took Mr. Turner’s punch, stumbling back several steps, his palm numb from the shock.
“In terms of strength alone, Mr. Turner is a bit stronger than me,” Ethan Carter thought grimly. “Looks like if I don’t use my mental power, I don’t have much chance of winning.”
Mr. Turner also looked serious. His strength wasn’t much greater than Ethan Carter’s. Winning would take some effort.
“Die!” Ethan Carter decided to end it quickly. He suddenly pulled out a dagger he carried and flung it at Mr. Turner’s head.
Mr. Turner was startled and quickly dodged to the side. To his surprise, the dagger was harmless and easily avoided, embedding itself in a tree behind him.
“You little punk, did you wet your pants from fear?” Mr. Turner finally realized what was happening. He thought Ethan Carter was so scared he couldn’t even throw straight, and burst out laughing.
As he spoke, Mr. Turner lunged at Ethan Carter, wanting to finish him off quickly.
“Die!” Ethan Carter quickly dodged back, his eyes flashing as he spat out a single word.
Then, the dagger stuck in the tree suddenly moved, pinning Mr. Turner’s foot to the ground and nailing him in place.
“Ah!”
Mr. Turner let out a scream, looking down at the dagger in his foot, his face full of terror.
“You’re a telekinetic?” Mr. Turner’s lips trembled as he finally managed to ask in a low voice.
“What’s a telekinetic?” Ethan Carter still looked confused. “So, did I win? Or do you want me to give you another shot?”
Mr. Turner’s face went pale and he quickly waved his hands. “You win, you definitely win!”

Chapter 6: The Perverted Mission
“All right then, give me the money now. I have a brother still waiting in the hospital for this money to save his life.” Ethan Carter waved his hand, and the dagger flew back to him, making Mr. Turner scream again.
After getting the money from Mr. Turner, Ethan Carter went to pay the hospital fees for Little Brian, while Mr. Turner simply bandaged himself up and personally drove Ethan Carter to the hospital.
Although he didn’t quite understand this gesture, Ethan Carter didn’t object. He got into Mr. Turner’s car—first, it saved him the cab fare (only a fool would turn down a free ride), and second, he was curious about the world of superpowered people that Mr. Turner had mentioned.
“In the city, superpowered people are divided into two main types: martial artists and telekinetics. Both are ranked from level one to level nine, each level stronger than the last. Martial artists possess immense physical strength—a first-rank martial artist has a thousand pounds of force, a second-rank has three thousand, and so on. The higher the rank, the greater the strength. Telekinetics are even scarier. They have tremendous mental power, and their main way of fighting is by controlling objects, which is why they’re called telekinetics.”
