Chapter 9

“Why? Didn’t you already use the Divine Prayer Technique?” James Grant was a bit confused; politics was always such a hassle.

“It’s not as simple as you think.” Monica Morton let out a slight sigh. “Although there is only one priest at any given time, there are many priest candidates. Take my tribe, for example—there are more than a dozen candidates. Only when a candidate receives the Moon Goddess’s Dawn and is able to successfully use the Divine Prayer Technique does she truly qualify to inherit the position of priest.”

“If the priest is so important, why not just have a few more!” The ignorant James Grant was like a soccer layman cursing at the players fighting for the ball: “What’s the point of fighting? Just give everyone a ball, problem solved!”

“There can only ever be one representative of the Moon Goddess!” Monica Morton’s expression grew solemn; whenever she spoke of the Moon Goddess, she always became extremely serious.

“This god is so damn stingy!” James Grant muttered under his breath, not daring to let the girl hear.

“Haven’t you already managed to use the Divine Prayer Technique now?”

“It can’t really be called a success!” The girl’s face showed a trace of embarrassment. “According to previous records, the Divine Prayer Technique only summons elemental spirits, but this time…”

James Grant turned his head. He suddenly realized that his appearance had also brought a bit of trouble to the girl.

Chapter Six: The Jade Medallion

Earlier, the girl had been chatting back and forth with James Grant, but as fatigue and drowsiness swept over her, her little head drooped completely, her small body leaning against the tree trunk, her eyes utterly devoid of energy.

“Grrr…” No one knew whose stomach growled first, but the sound made the girl so embarrassed that her head nearly dropped to her chest.

James Grant touched his own stomach; anyway, it wasn’t his that made the noise.

“Get some sleep. I’ll go find something to eat.” James Grant sighed softly. Judging by the girl’s appearance, she couldn’t be more than twenty—at most sixteen or seventeen. It was tough for her to be running around alone in such a vast forest.

“Thank you.” Monica Morton blushed, nodded, and as soon as she relaxed, she instantly drifted off to sleep.

The wind was getting stronger. Even though they were in the middle of the woods, cold gusts still blew through, lifting the girl’s green hair and making her shiver.

Only then did James Grant notice that this beautiful girl actually had two pointed ears. The wind lifted her hair, fully revealing one ear to James Grant’s eyes.

Words could no longer describe the girl’s beauty. James Grant only knew that, faced with such a stunning girl with half her skin exposed, his throat was growing dry.

Whenever James Grant thought of such a beautiful girl shouting “压灭跌” while… with him… his blood rushed to his head.

Beast! James Grant cursed himself for being so useless. Although lust was a man’s nature, taking advantage of someone in need was just shameless and despicable.

Perhaps it was the Divine Prayer Technique that made James Grant feel an inseparable bond with this girl.

He turned his head; King Kong was still sitting there innocently.

James Grant still couldn’t figure out what had made this once ferocious beast become so docile.

He beckoned to the giant creature, and King Kong immediately scrambled over on all fours, reaching James Grant in just two steps. Even though Young Master Qin was somewhat prepared, he was still startled.

“Huff, huff~~” Grella snorted heavily from its nostrils, lowering its head to look at James Grant, with even a hint of anticipation in its eyes.

This guy… could it be that it will listen to me from now on? James Grant felt like he was dreaming!

He touched his chest; James Grant could still remember that burning sensation.

His hand felt a jade medallion, and James Grant’s heart stirred. He quickly pulled it out.

It was of an ancient, simple color, nothing remarkable about it. His father had handed it to him personally when he left home at twelve. Back then, his father had only given him two things, and this was one of them.

“Remember, no matter what, always carry this with you. It will keep you safe!” His father’s serious expression appeared before James Grant’s eyes.

At the time, James Grant hadn’t thought much of it, and during his subsequent wandering, it hadn’t seemed to serve any purpose. But now, a small character on the jade medallion, which had always been dull and lusterless, was emitting a faint glow.

“Beast”! There was only this one character on the medallion.

But now, as James Grant focused all his attention on the jade medallion, a booming sound echoed in his mind, and then everything went black, as if he had broken through some barrier and entered another world.

The world was a void, with only a tiny point of light shining.

James Grant couldn’t help but walk over to take a look, and to his surprise, he found that the light was actually a miniature version of King Kong.

When James Grant poked the light with his finger, a blood-curdling roar yanked him back to reality.

Looking around, he saw that Grella, who had just been obediently by his side, was now clutching its head with its paws, rolling on the ground, its face twisted in agony.

James Grant was sure that even when he’d poked its nostrils with a stick earlier, it hadn’t looked this miserable.
