Chapter 8

Ethan Brooks let out a light sigh, his tensed muscles instantly relaxing. He picked up his phone again, where a line of data appeared at just the right moment, so intelligent it seemed to be in perfect sync with his thoughts.

After watching the movie again, Ethan Brooks took out twenty thousand US dollars and exchanged it for RMB at the Bank of China, totaling a little over 120,000 yuan.

To fit the needs of the plot, he deliberately went to the supermarket and bought a lot of canned beef, luncheon meat, and similar items, packing them all into his personal storage space. Only when the one-cubic-meter space was completely filled did he feel fully prepared.

  Three days later.

Ethan Brooks finished a phone call with Emily Foster, saying he was in a bad mood and wanted to go traveling. He might be back in as little as ten days, or it could be as long as a month. Then, he entered the world of "Amazon Escape."

  August 1999, South America.

An armed helicopter thundered forward. Ethan Brooks slowly opened his eyes to see several European special forces soldiers chewing gum, each fully armed. The roar in his ears was deafening, and through the window, he could see the scenery speeding by in reverse.

Looking down, he saw that he was also wearing full camouflage gear, a helmet, holding an M16 assault rifle, carrying a tactical backpack, a pistol and various equipment at his waist, and a numbered tag on his chest that read "Six."

"Isn't this the student number of Lieutenant Michael from the Jaguar Airborne Assault Team? Did I replace him?"

Ethan Brooks gradually understood—this was the beginning of the plot. He was on an armed helicopter, arriving at the Hunter School for training as a member of the Chinese special forces. Sitting next to him were his two teammates, the original protagonists of the story: one named William Harris, the other Logan Wright.

The Amazon was hot, and with everyone fully armed, all the special forces soldiers were drenched in sweat. Ethan Brooks closed his eyes and began to recall the plot.

The plot of this movie was terrible. The system probably brought him into this world mainly to temper his willpower. With his knowledge of the story, aside from the daily grueling training, he could avoid almost all crises.

A rough voice interrupted his thoughts.

  "Time's up."

Ethan Brooks opened his eyes to see a face covered in stubble, the skin already bronzed.

"Prepare to rappel now. Get your gear ready. Stand up, quickly."

Ethan Brooks quickly stood up and walked toward the cabin door with the other special forces from various countries.

  "Move it, move it!"

Instructor Croft kept urging them on.

Ethan Brooks, William Harris, and Logan Wright shook hands, grabbed the rope, and rappelled down until they landed in the water, lying in the Amazon River that submerged their tactical boots, moving forward with the crowd.

The armed helicopter followed them all the way. Chief Instructor Croft held a loudspeaker, shouting from above:

"You must reach the assembly point within two hours! If you don't make it in two hours, you'll be considered to have given up!"

Two hours later, the trainees from special forces units of various countries arrived at the Hunter School and began to assemble.

A squad of soldiers in white flag-raising uniforms stood at attention, holding the national flags of various countries. A black sedan drove in, followed by the inspection of General Cody Ross.

  "Attention!"

  "At ease!"

Following Instructor Croft's commands, Ethan Brooks mechanically completed each movement, every action exuding a strong military aura. No one would have guessed that he was an office worker who had never received any military training.

Wearing a major general's uniform, General Ross stepped out of the car, his military boots making a dull thud on the ground.

Instructor Croft turned to face General Ross and snapped a salute.

  "All personnel assembled!"

  "Begin."

  "Yes, General!"

Instructor Croft turned back, his voice booming.

  "Begin roll call."

Since Ethan Brooks had taken the place of the original Lieutenant Michael from the Jaguar Airborne Assault Team, he stood at the very front and was the first to step forward.

"Second Lieutenant Ethan Brooks of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Special Forces reporting!"

"Lieutenant Rossini of the Alpine Royal Navy Amphibious Assault Team."

"Lieutenant Johnson of the Red Beret Lightning Field Assault Team."

Finally, the main character William Carter stepped forward and said loudly, "Lieutenant William Carter of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Special Forces!"

Next was the second main character, a short man with excellent fighting skills, Logan Wright: "Reporting, General! I am Second Lieutenant Logan Wright of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Special Forces!"

Then came General Ross's speech. Only Ethan Brooks knew that the big boss of the international drug cartel had already entered the Hunter School's no-fly zone. However, faced with a special forces soldier who could foresee everything, he would be rendered completely useless, reduced to a mere supporting role.
