She truly felt that this dress was tailor-made for her, and the salesgirl’s words had really struck a chord in her heart. But so what? She wasn’t some rich second-generation kid—how could she possibly afford such an expensive dress?
But as soon as she spoke, she realized she had said the wrong thing.
Sure enough—
“Well then, since it fits…”
Olivia Brooks’s face grew even more embarrassed. She could almost predict what the salesgirl would say next, and for a moment, she had the urge to bolt out the door.
Everything happened just as she expected. The salesgirl turned to Ethan Brooks and asked gently, “Sir, will you be paying by cash or card?”
This salesgirl was very perceptive and skilled at her job. She didn’t even ask Olivia Brooks if she was satisfied—she just went straight to asking how they’d pay.
A fine layer of sweat appeared on Olivia Brooks’s face. She could already guess what was about to happen. She was prepared—this was probably going to be the most embarrassing moment of her life.
Damn it, she thought, I already saw the price, so why did I even try it on? I knew it was so expensive, so why did I agree to come to Aier Mall? I knew I wouldn’t buy anything, so why did I even come in here…
Thinking this, she simply lowered her head and walked straight into the fitting room.
Ethan Brooks watched Olivia Brooks’s figure disappear, then pulled out a card and said calmly, “Card, please. I didn’t bring that much cash.”
Sarah Morgan was stunned, looking at Ethan Brooks in disbelief.
“She… Isn’t her family full of teachers? Didn’t she say she doesn’t get along with her brother? Didn’t she say her brother isn’t rich? Didn’t she say her brother is so low? How could…”
When Olivia Brooks came out again, she had folded the dress neatly and handed it to the salesgirl, walking out without saying a word, her face red all the way to her neck.
After a few steps, she realized that Sarah Morgan and Ethan Brooks hadn’t followed her. Glancing back, she saw the salesgirl already packing up the dress, the receipt printer buzzing away.
Olivia Brooks immediately felt at a loss, her usual composure in front of Ethan Brooks nowhere to be found.
“Um… Miss, you might have misunderstood. We didn’t say we were going to buy it…”
The salesgirl quickly finished everything, handed her the packaged dress, and pointed at Ethan Brooks, saying, “Hello, this is your dress. This gentleman has already paid.”
Olivia Brooks froze, numbly taking the shopping bag, looking at Ethan Brooks in disbelief, only to see a face that, in her eyes, was just asking for a punch.
“Is the price on the tag fake or something…”
In a daze, she followed Sarah Morgan again, entering the women’s section of the Versace flagship store, tried on a shirt and a pair of jeans, and somehow, the bill was paid before she even realized it.
Sarah Morgan patiently explained to her the origins of Chanel and why it was so expensive, going on and on about how great Chanel clothes were, but she didn’t take in a word, feeling like she’d been in a fog all afternoon.
By the time she snapped out of it, she didn’t even know how to face Ethan Brooks anymore.
Even though she only bought a dress, a shirt, and a pair of jeans today, it cost nearly twenty thousand. She definitely didn’t believe her parents had sent her twenty thousand yuan just to buy clothes.
Logically, she usually looked down on Ethan Brooks, thanks to the impression he left before going to college—not only unmotivated, but always hiding all sorts of weird stuff under his bed, which was just disgusting.
Chapter 11 Sarah Morgan’s Exclamation
After shopping all afternoon, even though Ethan Brooks said he’d cover all of Olivia Brooks’s expenses today, he barely bought anything else. In the evening, Ethan Brooks found a hotel and treated the two girls, who had just graduated high school, to dinner.
Olivia Brooks was still a bit embarrassed to face him. As they walked up the hotel stairs, she quietly said to him, “How much did Mom and Dad send you? Write down whatever’s extra, I’ll pay you back later.”
Ethan Brooks smiled lightly and said nothing. He understood this girl’s personality a bit—she was not only very strong-willed, but also incredibly stubborn.
The three of them ordered a table full of dishes. Sarah Morgan was silent, while Olivia Brooks complained it was a waste.
“Hey, didn’t you just lose your job? And you’re still spending money like this.”
Ethan Brooks glanced at her and said, “You can’t even call me brother anymore?”
Olivia Brooks immediately fell silent.
Sarah Morgan ate elegantly while curiously glancing between Olivia Brooks and Ethan Brooks, as if she couldn’t quite figure out the relationship between the siblings.
After dinner, as Ethan Brooks paid the bill, he asked the two girls, “Have you found a place to stay tonight? If not, how about getting a room here?”
Sarah Morgan smiled and said, “No need, brother. We booked a room yesterday, for several days.”
Ethan Brooks smiled too, thinking that although Sarah Morgan was a bit aloof, she was much better than his own sister. Just listen to how sweetly she called him brother.
“All right then, I won’t be hanging out with you the next few days. You won’t have any fun with me around anyway. If you need anything, just give me a call.”
“Okay, thank you, brother.”
Ethan Brooks knew that with Olivia Brooks’s personality, she would never stay at his place no matter what. And his rental wasn’t anything special anyway, so he didn’t bother inviting them. After all, today was just about completing his task.
