Chapter 11

Diana Cooper asked, “So, what do you think is wrong with you?”

David Brooks was now completely frustrated. “I can eat and drink just fine, there’s nothing wrong with me!”

Diana Cooper put on an understanding expression. “A lot of people don’t want to admit they’re sick, or are embarrassed to do so. But for your kind of problem, I suggest you go to a proper hospital. Small clinics are just out to scam people like you—those who like to fool around but don’t like to use protection.”

David Brooks instinctively replied, “I use protection every time.”

Diana Cooper looked at him in surprise. “You still got sick even with protection? Unless you bought those expired ones, three for a yuan, then it must be a problem with your luck.”

  David Brooks was furious. “You…”

Diana Cooper said very impatiently, “Alright, I do sympathize with your situation and understand how you feel, but we really don’t treat this here.”

David Brooks said, almost in tears, “I really am not sick!”

Diana Cooper gave him a look of disgust. “Whether you’re sick or not isn’t up to you or me to say. Only a doctor can decide that.”

David Brooks was getting more and more confused, unable to get out of the loop, and blurted out, “Where’s the doctor? Call him out. I really don’t believe you can make me sick even when I’m not!”

Diana Cooper looked at him with disdain. “Classmate, let me emphasize something: I have absolutely no sexual interest in someone with your physique and looks. So you’d better not let your imagination run wild. Also, let me repeat, we don’t treat your kind of illness here.”

David Brooks was now truly at his wit’s end. If he could, he really wanted to rape and kill this little nurse, then kill her again after. But as a student at the police academy, a future police officer, this was something he could only imagine—no, he shouldn’t even imagine it. So he could only force himself to hold back his temper and get back to the point. “Let’s not worry about whether I’m sick or not. I’m not the one who needs to see a doctor—it’s my buddy here. He got beaten up and might have a bit of amnesia.”

Diana Cooper asked carelessly, “Where did he get hit?”

David Brooks was exasperated again. “Nurse, if it’s amnesia, of course he got hit on the head. You don’t get amnesia from being hit on the foot!”

Diana Cooper replied indifferently, “You never know! A head injury can affect the lower body, and a lower body injury can affect the head.”

David Brooks was really about to lose it, and said irritably, “The head! He got hit on the head!”

Diana Cooper glanced at Brian Carter and calmly asked, “What has he forgotten?”

David Brooks deliberately tried to gross out the little nurse. “What he’s forgotten is a bit weird. He remembers exactly how much people owe him, but forgets all the money he owes others. And his memory is all jumbled up—he keeps mistaking strange women for his wife. Just now, when we came in, he said you looked like the daughter of his wife’s younger sister’s uncle’s family’s old cousin who can’t get married. But the most important thing is, he thinks he’s from ancient times. He talks like ‘brother’, ‘your excellency’, ‘I’, ‘where’, ‘yi gu’, ‘give moji’, ‘ya mie die’ and so on.”

Brian Carter had been silent the whole time, but now he couldn’t help protesting in his heart: When did I ever say that? When did I ever have amnesia?

Lu Shandian just slightly furrowed her elegant brows, still calm and unruffled, showing her extraordinary composure and amazing self-control. After listening, she lazily said, “It’s probably amnesia, and selective amnesia at that. Either way, we can’t treat it here. The main entrance is over there, please see yourselves out!”

David Brooks was finally out of patience, but seeing that the doctor really wasn’t around and this little nurse might have graduated from some shady vocational school, he decided to drag Brian Carter to a big hospital.

Brian Carter was a bit unwilling. “That’s it?”

Lu Shandian asked warily, “What else do you want?”

Brian Carter said, “At least give me a prescription. Every time I try to think, my head hurts badly.”

Diana Cooper finally got serious, looked Brian Carter over carefully, then said solemnly, “Eat more, drink more water, get into fewer fights, gamble less, smoke less, drink less, do less ecstasy, don’t stay out all night, stop thinking about all sorts of nonsense, and your head will stop hurting. Of course, cutting down on your sex life might help too.”

Brian Carter was completely defeated. He exchanged a glance with David Brooks, and obediently left the infirmary. This little nurse was just too much to handle!

After leaving the infirmary, David Brooks insisted on dragging Brian Carter to a big hospital for a checkup.

Brian Carter saw that nothing he said could change David Brooks’s determination to take him to a doctor, so he had no choice but to agree. Anyway, he was curious to see what the world outside the police academy was like.

Chapter 006: A Fateful Encounter

Walking along the bustling, lively, traffic-filled streets of the provincial capital.

Brian Carter felt like Granny Liu entering the Grand View Garden, his eyes not knowing where to look first.

Everything before him had completely overturned his previous understanding of the world, because everything here was beyond his comprehension.

All this curiosity and confusion made him talk even more.

“May I ask, brother, what are those things flying down the official road?”

David Brooks followed Brian Carter’s pointing finger and couldn’t help but laugh. “What else could they be? Cars! And that’s not called an official road, it’s called a street.”
