Chapter 19

Linda Bennett and David Brooks both turned pale with fright, because if things went wrong, Brian Carter might have killed Kevin Harris!

The two of them forced themselves to appear calm as they walked toward Brian Carter. After turning the corner, they found Brian Carter standing in front of the restroom door. The white coat, mask, hat, and other tools he had used for the act had already been discarded somewhere, and he was fiddling with Linda Bennett's black-rimmed glasses in his hand.

Their steps were a bit unsteady as they walked up to Brian Carter.

David Brooks asked in a trembling, low voice, “Xiao... Xiaokai, what did you do to Kevin Harris?”

Brian Carter gave a faint smile. “Brother Brooks, I would never do something like murder or arson. But that guy is so despicable, he deserved a harsh lesson, so I dislocated his other wrist as well!”

“Gasp!” Both of them couldn’t help but suck in a cold breath at his words. Brian Carter was really ruthless, but they had to admit, Kevin Harris deserved it. If it weren’t for him, would there be so much trouble right now?

After returning the glasses to Linda Bennett, Brian Carter walked ahead for a bit and took the elevator up to the ninth floor.

During this process, none of the three spoke, but both Linda Bennett and David Brooks couldn’t help but size up Brian Carter.

He was still the same person, but how had his personality changed so drastically?

Could it be because of his head injury?

Yes, that must be it!

Both of them couldn’t help but think this way. As for Brian Carter’s transformation, they couldn’t say if it was good or bad, but the hematoma in his head was definitely not a good thing. The most urgent matter was to get him treated.

Brian Carter, on the other hand, was completely oblivious, curiously and excitedly examining the numbered buttons in the elevator, pressing each one in turn.

As a result, naturally, the elevator stopped at every floor.

Finally, the three of them made it to the neurosurgery inpatient department on the ninth floor.

Because it was already nighttime, the place was very quiet, and there weren’t many people around.

When they arrived at the nurses’ station, two nurses were busy in the pharmacy, and one nurse was sitting at the desk making a phone call.

Seeing that everyone else was busy, Linda Bennett had no choice but to ask the nurse on the phone, “Nurse, excuse me, may I ask you something…”

The nurse glanced at her indifferently, ignored her, and continued speaking softly and sweetly into the phone, “Honey, I have to go, someone’s here… I know, Holiday Hotel, room 803, mm-hmm, I’ll come over after my shift ends at midnight… Hey, don’t forget to buy that thing… Which one? The condom, you dummy! Do you want to get caught like last year again… If you’re not prepared, don’t expect me to come over… Hehe, silly, why did you buy so many? Even if you wear two at a time, you won’t use them all in one night!”

Linda Bennett was getting impatient and called out again, “Nurse!”

“Mm, mm, okay! I’m hanging up now!” The nurse hung up, then turned around and snapped, “What are you yelling for? Which ward? If you need something, can’t you press the call button?”

Linda Bennett said, “We’re not family members. We’re here to see someone.”

The nurse replied even more rudely, “Visiting hours are over. Come back tomorrow!”

Linda Bennett couldn’t hold back anymore and raised her voice, “I’m here to see Dr. Olivia Clark!”

The nurse shot up from her seat and shouted even louder, “Why are you yelling? Don’t you know hospitals are supposed to be quiet? If you disturb the patients’ rest and affect their recovery, are you going to take responsibility? The doctor is busy right now.”

Brian Carter and David Brooks exchanged glances, both speechless. If you know the hospital should be quiet, why are you shouting even louder? Your voice is louder than ours!

Linda Bennett was fuming, her fists clenched tightly, looking as if she was about to rush over and beat the woman up.

David Brooks had long heard that this campus belle had a bad temper. Although there were enough guys chasing after her to form several battalions, few dared to confess, because anyone who did would end up with a black eye and a swollen face. He used to think it was just a rumor, but now he realized it was true—this woman really did have a fiery temper. Seeing things about to get out of hand, his smooth-talking nature kicked in and he quickly stepped forward, “Nurse, this is Dr. Clark’s niece. We’re here to see the doctor about something.”

The nurse was stunned for a moment, then her attitude did a complete 180. She smiled apologetically, “Oh, so you’re Director Clark’s niece! Why didn’t you say so earlier? She’s in the duty room—the one with the light on!”

Linda Bennett snorted coldly and walked over expressionlessly.

After a few steps, she couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, “These people really look down on others.”

David Brooks nodded in agreement, “Exactly.”

Brian Carter, however, said calmly, “No need to get upset with her. That woman’s complexion is dark and her brow is clouded—a sign of great misfortune. Within two hours, she’ll definitely suffer a bloody disaster!”

The two of them turned to look at Brian Carter in surprise, their eyes full of disbelief.

David Brooks thought back carefully. Big chest? Hmm, yes, that nurse did have a big chest.

Linda Bennett, on the other hand, was puzzled. Besides playing dumb to fool people, could this guy also pretend to be a fortune-teller?

Still, she had to admit, she really liked that kind of curse.
