Ahead was a long alley. To avoid being discovered by Sarah Hill, Ryan Brooks hid at the corner, poking his head out to look down the alley.
To his surprise, a few guys with dyed yellow hair actually stopped Sarah Hill. He had no idea what they wanted, but the two sides were arguing.
Ryan Brooks frowned, casually grabbed a passing chubby guy, pointed at the yellow-haired group, and asked, “Hey, classmate, what are they doing?”
The chubby guy looked at the yellow-haired group, a look of terror appearing on his face. He whispered, “They’re thugs from the Black Wolf Gang. The leader is a local boss of the Black Wolf Gang, named Henry Ford, nicknamed ‘Mad Dog.’ He’s got dozens of men under him and specializes in collecting protection fees from our school and nearby shops.”
“Black Wolf Gang? There’s such a gang in Huaxia?”
Ryan Brooks was puzzled. He was familiar with all the major gangs in Huaxia, but he’d never heard of the Black Wolf Gang.
He asked the chubby guy again, “These thugs are collecting protection fees at school—doesn’t anyone at the school do anything about it?”
The chubby guy looked at Ryan Brooks as if he were an idiot and said, “The Black Wolf Gang is powerful in Dong’an City. Forget the school—even the police don’t dare mess with them. The school used to protect students, but after several security guards got beaten up, they stopped interfering.”
“So arrogant? Looks like no one’s dealt with them yet.”
Ryan Brooks muttered, not thinking the Black Wolf Gang was anything special—just that no one had stepped up to take care of them.
“Handsome, you keep watching. I’m leaving.”
Afraid of being noticed by Mad Dog and his crew, the chubby guy ran off at top speed.
Although Ryan Brooks could easily handle a few small-time thugs, he didn’t show himself. Since he was supposed to protect Sarah Hill, he wanted her life to stay normal. Unless it was absolutely necessary, Ryan Brooks wouldn’t step in. His master had told him to protect Sarah Hill, but definitely not just from a few street punks.
Just as Ryan Brooks thought Sarah Hill would pay the protection fee and leave, he heard Sarah Hill’s firm voice from ahead: “What protection fee? This is our school’s road. Why should I pay you? Besides, two hundred yuan is half a month’s living expenses for me. I absolutely won’t give it to you.”
Chapter 010: He’s So Handsome!
Hearing Sarah Hill’s words, Ryan Brooks realized that this seemingly delicate class monitor was actually so strong-willed, not even afraid when surrounded by thugs.
He became a bit interested, sitting on his old bicycle, quietly watching how things would unfold.
“Well, look at that, the little chick’s got some backbone. In that case, I won’t take your money. Let me give you a kiss and I’ll let you go.”
Among the thugs, one wearing a leather jacket with buck teeth said.
“This chick is damn pretty. I wonder if she’s wild in bed. Dog Bro, you should take her home and make her your woman.”
“She’d make a good ‘Dog Sis,’ but I wonder if she’s wild enough.”
The thugs kept up their filthy talk, their lecherous eyes roaming all over Sarah Hill.
Sarah Hill was so scared she took two steps back, her cheeks flushing bright red, but she still forced herself to say, “You’d better leave, or I’ll call the police.”
The buck-toothed guy sneered, reaching out to grab Sarah Hill: “Calling the police won’t help, little chick. Just give in to me.”
Seeing this, Ryan Brooks knew it was time for him to act.
Creak, creak, creak...
A strange scraping sound echoed as a rusty old bicycle rolled into the alley, its oval wheels spinning. Ryan Brooks bobbed up and down on the bike, looking quite comical.
Under the gaze of the thugs and Sarah Hill, the old bike stopped beside them. Ryan Brooks suddenly turned his head, pointed at the buck-toothed guy, and shouted, “Let go of that girl.”
“What the hell, where did this idiot come from? Trying to play the hero? Have you looked in the mirror? Riding that piece of junk, and you dare try to pick up girls?”
The buck-toothed guy looked at Ryan Brooks with disdain, his eyes full of menace. He said coldly, “Do you know who I am? I’m the Black Wolf Gang’s Mad Dog. Hand over your money and get lost, or I’ll beat you so bad you’ll have to drop out.”
“What do I do? What do I do? Why is he coming over? He should be getting help!”
Seeing Mad Dog’s fierce look, Sarah Hill was extremely nervous. She turned to look at Ryan Brooks. This classmate was skinny and frail—he didn’t look like he could fight at all. How could he possibly take on several guys?
“Kid, leave the bike too, and get lost.”
A yellow-haired thug behind Mad Dog stepped forward, reaching for the handlebars of Ryan Brooks’s old bike, greedy enough to even want that piece of junk.
But before the yellow-haired guy could touch the handlebars, Ryan Brooks slapped him with a backhand. With a loud smack, the yellow-haired guy staggered back five or six steps, his cheek swelling up like a pig’s head, spitting out a mouthful of blood with two teeth in it.
Ryan Brooks looked at the yellow-haired guy, his face showing an innocent smile. “Didn’t your mom teach you not to touch other people’s things without permission?”
“You son of a bitch, you’re looking for trouble!”
“How dare you hit my guy? Get him!”
Seeing a guy on a broken bike act so cocky, Mad Dog and his crew exploded with rage. They all pulled out folding knives and surrounded Ryan Brooks.
Seeing this, Sarah Hill trembled with fear, but mustered her courage, stepped forward, spread her arms to block Ryan Brooks, and shouted, “Ryan Brooks, run!”
